Language / Should I learn both Polish and German [147]

but German has never been very popular in British schools.

I don't agree with this. There was once a time when you either learnt French or German. There was no other choice.
Or, do you mean popular as a pupil's choice ?

Love / WHY DO POLISH WIVES WHO ARE AWAY NOT VISIT THEIR HUSBANDS? [75]

i am in the north-he was moved down to cornwall-for two months i went down as much as i could to see him. longer each time-time

If you are daft enough to be paying for the ticket. He will be clever enough to keep using you.

Check the threads for how many women pay for tickets and travel. In the threads the number of Polish men doing this is zero.

When this type of thing happens in Poland, and it does, it always ends in nothing.

This opinion might not be what you are looking for, but the facts are in previous posts on other threads.

News / Polish Elections - your opinions [27]

I wonder how difficult it is for a Polish person living abroad (in the UK or Germany, for example) to actually vote.

I don't know the process, but they can vote from the country they are living in.

Will they bother ? I don't know.

Love / is he married or not? [41]

You'll have to ask him and then judge whether he is telling the truth or not.

Not the best way to start a relationship though.

Not sure I understand.

He is in England. He might be married.

Is his girlfriend/wife still in Poland ?

Genealogy / Looking for my Polish roots WOITYCZKA [4]

Is anyone familiar with the surname.

JewishGen might be some help with the surname.

Read the Genealogy threads and you'll find loads of links.

Shipping records might show which city he came from.

Life / Surviving the Polish Winter [27]

True. The cold can possibly last for a couple of months, but we don't seem to get much snow.

Temperatures below minus 10 [in Wroclaw] don't usually last more than a few days.

afc1903, Where are you moving to ? nearest city ?

Life / Surviving the Polish Winter [27]

I've heard it can get as low as -20C,

Sometimes lower.

Do people avoid heading out at nights due to extreme cold, or is it tolerable providing you have the right clothing?

It's not always freezing. Last winter was quite mild. I would say some people stay at home when it's bad. I don't though.

wondering whether to purchase myself some warm clothing before flying over,

You'll only need a warm coat, sweater and some good footwear.

It can get cold, but at the same time the streets might be dry with no snow.

UK, Ireland / Polish Childrens contribution in education in Slough - the positives [7]

Because the level of math in Poland is higher that in England

True or false, I have no idea.

They do have a strange way of teaching Maths here. In Poland teachers seem to teach the most difficult, outdated way to answer a problem. There are simple ways to answer some questions.

Travel / Ostrowo Budy....Know were it is??? [14]

P.S. Is the correct spelling of this ship really "Graf Wallersee", as bookratt stated???

He didn't. I did. Wallersee is a name and a region. So, I assume it's the name of the ship, that you weren't sure how to spell.

Admin,

You might as well merge my 'phrase of the day' thread onto this one. The same phrases are coming up on both threads.
