Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

Gay doesn't actually mean weak. You will find quite a number of gay men amongst military, police, in the gym, ect. It does make sense you know. Strong, sweaty men fighting, wrestling, testosterone in the air, buttocks slapping and hitting the showers together afterwards. :)

If you show a boy a world of men holding hands and acting weak and without loveable women and examples of men caring for women, he would turn gay!

If you think that teachers can have that big of a impact on young boys psyche, then judging by the numbers of women in the school system here in Poland,( I would estimate that 80% of all teachers are women) almost all young men in Poland should be very feminine these days.

Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

Pawian, where are you? Please, Matyjasz, PGTX, other reasonable Poles, step in and restore my faith in Polish intelligence.

There isn't really any point in having a conversation with tomek about this subject.

Personally I don't give a rats rear if homosexuality is a mental disease or not. They seem to manage pretty well without any remedy so why force any on them?

As for homosexual teachers, I don't see how exactly one sexual preferences should have any impact on the teaching skills of a teacher.

Language / Do Polish Movies Help learn the language? [60]

I notice the old lektor chap doesn't always like all the swearing in English dialogue.

Yep. In Poland it's OK to show movies on TV where people are being raped, slaughtered and decapitated as long as the bad guys mind their language. ;)

Life / POLES' ENGLISH COMPARED TO EUROPE AS A WHOLE? [39]

It's probably the level of company that you keep in general Shelleys.

O now that’s just harsh. Unfortunately, I will have to agree with Shelley. An average Pole's English is very poor, especially if you want to compare his knowledge with the one of his Scandinavian or Dutch peers. I'm not talking here about any "professionals" but rather about an average Jan Kowalski. I blame it on the way kids are being taught the language at high school here. There is just too big focus being made on grammar, with the time spent on conversations almost equal to zero.

Life / HAND-KISSING WANING IN POPULARITY? [29]

Yeah, the face kissing thing is a major minefield for me. Back home girls I know well would get one kiss on the left cheek and a hug. Over here on my birthday I got 3 from my manager...

Yep, it's 3 here in Poland.

Life / Who brings presents in Radomsko or Poland in general? [7]

Hehehhe... :) In Wielkopolska the person who brings presents is called Gwiazdor, which literally means Star Man.

Gwiazdor also means celebrity in Polish. I swear one day i will dress up as Michał Wisniewski and scare the living crap out of my kid! ;)

"And who did you expect you little bastard!"

Travel / Recommendations for Zakopane [48]

Zakopower doesn't really cut it for moi. I prefer Psio Crew! Bielsko-Biała baby! Szumi Jawor soundsystem. The video clip is kitschy but I love the music. Highlanders on amphetamine. ;)

Love / Polish girlfriend and birth control! [62]

Why are so many people on here so quick to judge and abuse others is beyond me.

It doesn't look as if m_26 was abusing his girlfriend. It seems that they both love each other and are aware and willing to face the consequences of their actions.

To answer your question m_26,

I have been pulling out, but I wanted to know if I will more or less be forced to marry her if some of my swimmers happens to make it in there? I doubt she's on birth control. Do you think she'd be willing to get on something if I talked to her about it?

Nobody can force you to marry her, however I doubt if she would want to become a single mother. I think it's time you two should talk.

Life / A trip to a Polish supermarket [136]

I would advise you not to buy sliced bread. It may be more comfortable, as you don't have to slice it yourself, but bear in mind that a bread has to cool down before it can be sliced and packed, thus it's really not that fresh when it arrives at your shop’s/bakery's shelves.

History / Polish and Russian propaganda posters [18]

He....cool poster...wonder why it didn't work though...:)

I think it's from the polish-bolshevik war, so it did actually work out. :)

Life / Poles are very polite nation! [47]

I think Plywood made a good point above. The Poles tend to see the Western label as a positive one but that isn't the whole truth, far from it.

It's all Jim Morrison's fault. "The West is the best...lalala" ;)

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

Poland: second to fight and first surrender.

lol It just can't get any more funny than this. ;)

As for Czechs, they are a very pragmatic nation. Thanks to this pragmatism if I would have to choose in which city I would like to live these days, Prague or Warsaw, I would definately choose Prague, so their political choices couldn't have been that bad.

Poles got the ****** end of the stick but they were no more fighting to defend Britain than the British were fighting to defend Poland. Each was fighting for their own country. Neither owes a debt to the other.

Here here!

News / Social mobility in Poland [5]

Hmm... There are no social classes as such, however I'm sure there are some groups of interests that try to establish their position in the country.

Life / The Quality of Water In Poland. Should we boil and filter it? [38]

In fact look up some tests of bottled water...lots of brands just fill from the same water system the public uses. It is not some miraculous healing water touched by god or something.

Bingo. Out of 200 something brands of bottled water being sold as mineral water on polish market only a dozen actually could be called that name. The rest, as you mentioned, fill from the same water system the public uses. It leads to a situation where very often people buy bottled water that is of lower quality than their tap water.

History / German POWs after WW2 - did the allies commit mass murder? [228]

Matyjasz:

I'm this close to believe that it was actually Poland that started the war. Lol

Nope, the counted on their allies for that...(didn't work out as planned though)

So what you are saying is that Germany's aggression on Poland in 1939 was just a pre-emptive strike?

Life / Do we have TV in Poland? [38]

People can say what they want about the E.U. but it is a fantastic time in Europe, we are all finally meeting each other at long last :)

I have some critical thoughts about the EU, but on the whole I would say "Well done Europe". :)

Life / Do we have TV in Poland? [38]

I've noticed that a lot of Europeans like to make fun of Americans because of their limited knowledge about geography. Truth be told we are not any better than they are. Just as SeanBM wrote, no country is free of ignorance. Ask any Pole what he knows about Moldova for example. Hell, why go that far, ask him about Baltic states, I doubt he knows much.

A very big proportion of British people I had the chance to meet had problems with pointing out exact location of Poland on a map. The things are slowly changing though. I bet that if Borat was made 20 years ago, he wouldn't be Kazakh, but most probably a Pole, Slovak or Lithuanian. We are slowly getting to know each other more.

UK, Ireland / My friends upset at Brits.... [51]

I never gave any thoughts how exactly the US/GB immigrants are depict here by the press, so thank you very much for the reply. Very interesting indeed. I wouldn't worry about the comments beneath the on-line articles. They are usually full of hate regardless of the content of the article.

and anti-immigration (British) propaganda in the media.

Could you elaborate on this a little more? I'm genuinely curious.
