Life / Communion, why do only half of church-goers in Poland take it? [41]

4) Fair enough. Peace can be found in many places though, through meditation and many other means

5) Catechisms para 2010, right? What is charis (grace)? It is unmerited favour, Cacy. Works righteousness salvation is contrary to the Bible anyway. Please read Rom 3.28 and 11.6 to me. How about 1 Tim 2.5?

6) We both have truths, are mine the same as yours? ;) (Jesus Christ Superstar, 39 lashes scene)

7) Go and consult a sage :)

8) Through an ill-defined concept of works, striving for salvation that you never know if you will attain? He finished the work on the cross (John 19.30). Faith itself is the best work

9) That's a social question learned through doing

101) Entertained? I don't know, I don't wanna second guess their motives/intentions ;) ;)

102) Dunno, would have to ask them ;)

109) Possibly :)

Wreście, thanks for that pgtx. I still believe that being there is a great gesture and act in and of itself but why would I attend an army tribute, for example, as an army man and not take part?

What of Ephesians and 'good works'? Surely good works could be done by honouring time-honoured traditions like Communion. Protestants believe in faith alone which isn't entirely correct either but doesn't enter the murky waters of 'good works'.

I really respect that, ftggoP. I am the same, I went inside the churches in Lithuania (and the Baltic states generally) as I love the serenity that comes from it. Here too. I also went in the Balkans.

I agree on the second point too. For me, having faith and feeling God around me is important but Catholics pride themselves on being practising Christians. I was talking with a very proud Catholic who lost interest due to the death of JPII. If you can feel that God is always with you then you are doing sth right :) :)

I got 100% in RE at school and Scotland has many Catholics, friends of mine to this day. That's funny, why can't they tell me what it means to them when I ask them? When I present the arguments of advanced theologians, they look dumbfounded. Why?

Ftggop, why don't people avoid going to Communion until they are ready and in the state of grace? Why don't they wait to confess and absolve their sins, then go when there are no blockades/barriers? All it takes is an hour out of their working week or even go on the weekend. What's the problem? Surely 'sitting out' is one of the biggest sins and attacks on their conscience, no?

Interesting point that, Pol3. On a less strict level, Lithuanians, Latvians, Finns and Estonians all believe bread to be the food of God and it is sacrilege to treat it as anything less. However, of those 4, only Lithuania is truly a Catholic country.

What are your thoughts on that?

Communion services do take place in different Christian churches but the critical point is baptism. It is the ultimate form of cleansing and is ultra-Catholic.

Well, good for him. He likely received some good training and picked up vital knowledge on the way. I will say that Poland has some really top-notch IT guys. As for tidying up the company, well, that's a different function from making a program. Plants tend not to be bosses and you should know that as a teacher, my friend :)

I'm sure you've read up on group dynamics :)

Wages are only a part of it. If there are no jobs, there are no jobs and it's that simple. Maybe it's encouraging Brits to aim higher than ancillary positions?

I agree. However, the enforcement of EU Law doesn't operate on the street level enough. Strictly speaking, it's in contravention of the law as the Directive expressly states that any prospective immigrant is not to be a burden. However, we all know that reality is different.

It's just a question of being realistic, of compromises being reached between the drafters of EU Law and the complexity of the reality of everyday life.

In a meritocracy, that would be fine Mister H. However, we must accept the bad with the good in reality. There are some 'undesirables' who too have their place. The question becomes, 'who has the right to engineer societies by picking and choosing?'. Universities can do so based on certain criteria but we must be careful of overt selectivism in workplaces. I hear what you are saying, though. As long as there was some elasticity in the procedure, it would be the lesser of 2 evils.

Overrun? Well, if the demand is there then there is no problem. If it wells up, as so often happens in times of recession, then the social state kicks in and performs its role.

Pregnant women make their contribution too. Or do you think they should be eternally punished for what Eve did? ;0 ;) ;)

It's very much a Catholic idea. Some missalettes may shed some light on the matter but it is my understanding that non-Catholics need permission from a diocesan bishop and also have recourse to Canon Law. In theory, there is a verse in John which attempts to bridge this schism but, in practice, it's impractical.

It is easier for prawosławny (eastern orthodox) followers as they are more closely allied to the sacraments than Protestants are. Protestants theoretically can receive the Communion and I think it is when, in very rare cases, there is a grave threat of death or a blockade which doesn't enable it in their own religion (no-one to consummate it etc etc).

Still, minor inconveniences for what Jesus did for mankind. If you don't understand the implications and significance of calling yourself sth, don't call yourself that. Pure and simple! If you do, be prepared to explain it to others as labels are fragmenting society in today's current global environment.

Communion should not be a take it or leave it idea, true Christians will honour it for obvious reasons!

It's rather disrespectful not to partake in the ceremony. My guess is that many people here are just bandwagon jumpers, stating themselves as Catholic Christians without really knowing what that means. Who here can quote Corinthians without Googling it? I asked my students this and they probably thought I was talking about a Brazilian football team ;) ;) ;)

1 Corinthians 11:24. If they truly understood the significance of this, the essence of Jesus's sacrifice, they would get off their butts and pay their tributes. No tolerance for sacrilege!!

That's not needed. Where you have non-discrimination, you have forced integration if you know your demography. Immigrants move to high-wage areas and you know they will move if you confer the right on them. Globalists are spearheading this campaign and I can see it in the writing of European legal instruments. However, I referred to world governance too. Goverments love immigrants, especially so-called socialist governments, as it allows them to implement programmes to realise their manifestos. Canada is an interesting case. Immigrants are, to my knowledge anyway, eligible for almost all the benefits that native Canadians get. This happened just over 10 years ago. It was the case that NGO's and voluntary groups formerly organised it but such work was passed to the government thereafter. It's part of a global drive to harmonise/streamline.

Mister H, I go along with that. The onus is on the Member State in question to conduct enquiries into the personal circumstances of prospective residents and ensure that, if the said prospective resident doesn't meet baseline criteria, that they actively put themselves in a position to do so by pursuing vocational training or becoming self-employed. This is incumbent on them (the government) as there is no quick-reference figure which they have recourse to.

Denying them freedoms is not the answer, Mister H. They were lumbered with communism and are only now enjoying the benefits that Dassonville and Van Binsbergen established. It's more a matter for national states to resist the fullest manifestation of those freedoms by imposing limits and using national apparatus to do so. There are agendas working higher than them and that's the problem.

I also believe in that but we were multicultural a long time ago. How can Britain be proud of GDP, infrastructure and feelgood if they are not created by Brits themselves? There has to be compromises somewhere. What gets me is how so many British graduates lost the battle to immigrants. Maybe it says something, in a comparative sense, about our respective education systems. Also, the weak enforcement of the minimum wage was another fault of the British system.

It depends on the settled intentions of the immigrant. The fear that they will up sticks and relocate is at the forefront of the decider's mind. Especially if they are on temporary contract-based jobs with unclear renewal. Better the devil you know ;)

UK, Ireland / Polish people are happy with the UK health care system [27]

Once a week :) I should have said, 'distortion effect added by author' ;) ;) Thanks for the correction, dnz. True that, you just kick back and enjoy the flight. You don't need to negotiate whopping great spaghetti junctions and awkward drivers.

I recall that you live up there in Poznań, dnz. Cheers for the info :)

UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

But Rockefeller is happy that there is European governance and standards. He doesn't care about such things, he is striving towards one-world governance, as impossible as that seems. It just amazes me that Britain hasn't imposed caps like Holland has. It's almost like we are clinging to the remnants of Aneurin Bevan's caring 'from cradle to grave' (1948 NHS) idea and ignoring subsequent quasi-revolutionary developments by Thatcher. Old lefties like Prescott may like what's happening but New Labour is not of that ilk, or so I thought.

UK, Ireland / Polish people are happy with the UK health care system [27]

There was a case of a Polish doctor who travelled from Poznan to Aberdeen 4 times a week. You've probably heard of it, delph. He drove down to Wrocław and got a flight to Glasgow. He then got a bus up the road. The flight route was cancelled so I dunno what became of him.

Europe never does because the big powers always take the credit, Crow. They rewrite history to suit their own purposes to feed to unknowing/unsuspecting university students.
