Life / GAY PARADE IN WARSAW, PL [87]

Bowie's gayest sounding one, just for the chorus and the title has to be "Boys Keep Swinging"!

Sorry, what does your Pink Floyd top 10 look like?

Life / GAY PARADE IN WARSAW, PL [87]

I said the best, not the worst.

Could I add "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell? I don't think he sings it in a gay context. The original was sung by Gloria Jones, and I think Marc Almond changed the gender to keep it straight, though...

Best gay songs?

Erin McKeown - Oh Didn't They
The Smiths - This Charming Man
David Bowie - John, I'm Only Dancing or Rebel Rebel
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax

Can't think of any more. In fact, not all of these ones of very gay.

Shame, Shame, Shame - Shirley & Co.
You Make Me Feel Mighty Real - Sylvester
I Want Your Love - Chic

That sort of thing.

Okay, if not disco, how about punk? Funk? Bebop? Britpop? Ska revival? Ska revival revival? Roots reggae? Merengue? Drum n Bass? Rock n Roll? Rhythm n Blues?

Life / GAY PARADE IN WARSAW, PL [87]

There was, maybe still is, a periodical published under the name "Gay News".
That's "Gay News", not "Queer News", "Bender News" or "Poof Weekly".

Life / GAY PARADE IN WARSAW, PL [87]

I do remember hearing a discussion programme on the radio in which one of the guests (who was, like most of them on this programme, plugging their latest book), kept using the word 'queer', and described himself as such. That seemed not just strange, but downright queer.

News / 14 year old rape victim from Warsaw denied abortion! [348]

the right to voice their opionions howe silly

But standing in the way of someone, anyone, from going about something that is supposedly within the law. It makes it more sickening that this girl is already the victim of rape, (unwanted) pregnancy (with all the associated risks to her health, being still at such a young age). There is voicing of opinions, but this seems far worse.

Language / The Dative Case [62]

And yes, the "do" preposition makes it the Dative case.

Can do not be used with some other case, the locative, for example?

But for me its hard to know when to use do or na??

It was the noun I was thinking more about.

But for me its hard to know when to use do or na??

A constant difficulty, highlighted by how many mistakes I hear Poles make when talking in English about going onto something that we'd go into, or to something that we'd go at, and so on.

jestem sklepping

The next step would be "Ja sklepem" I suppose.

Anyway, so is the dative all about moving onto, into or at something, whereas one of the other cases deals with being on, in or at something?

Language / The Dative Case [62]

Is the dative case this one?

Idę do sklepu.

Is that sentence even correct? I walk (in)to a/the shop.
If so, sklep being masculine (and inanimate), would -ego be the right ending for an accompanying adjective?
How would a neuter or feminine noun work in this context? Ciężarówka, for example.

But then I've just thought, don't funny things happen after the letter k in word endings?
Any examples would be greatly appreciated.

News / 14 year old rape victim from Warsaw denied abortion! [348]

If you disagree with a law like this one, what is a better response: to campaign, to preach and to persuade others including the powers that be that the law is wrong, or those who follow the law?

What will the church do to actually help this girl when she finally does have the baby? Criticise her even more for having a child out of wedlock?

How many times will this girl have to be a victim?

News / "We buy out Poland, Hungary, and Romania!" - the President of Israel [74]

but TESCO , that guy who started it

There were two of them - Jack Cohen and T.E. Stockwell. Nowhere on the internet or anywhere else can I find what the initials T.E. stand for. As far as I can tell, Cohen had the ideas, Stockwell had the money. Now, Tesco is a huge evil company that will take over the world if it can, and it probably can. But only about 15 or 20 years ago, it was just another grotty supermarket, not nearly as good as Sainsbury's. It is the people who run it now who have turned it into the monster it is, not the chap who started a grocery shop, then supermarket business all those years ago. Anyone who starts a company wants it to be successful.

News / Deutsche Welle Claims Tabloids are Polish [40]

The Daily Mail is a British newspaper that insults British people all the time. Can German newspapers not insult Germans too? In fakt, lets all be rude and dismissive about ourselves in a blindly inaccurate way.

It's not that common a mistake. How many times have Polish people started such a thread when there's already another one the same somewhere else?

News / What does Poland mean to you? [66]

Poland is the taste of piwo, kielbasa and piwo. Poland is the sharp cold of winter, warmth of a hot summer and the sharp cold of another winter. Plus some other stuff.

poland is a country where hordes of toilet cleaning immigrants invade my country

That doesn't make any sense, but let's analyse it anyway.

Poland is a country - correct
where hordes - there may be a horde or two in Poland
toilet cleaning immigrants - in Poland? There are some immigrants in Poland, from various places, many of them keep their toilets clean.
invade my country - 1. You don't have a country, you have a hole. 2. Your country is not in Poland, therefore your post is officially...

... utter sh!te.

bitter and twisted people with only the past to think about!

There are too many of these people in the world, but there seem to be more in some places than in others.

Does dwelling on the past really help anyone to make a better future? It seems that if you can be so busy fighting over the past, you can ignore the positive things you could be doing instead to make the future a better place.
