Life / What do Polish people think of burning the national flags? [58]

Thanks for trying to put me down though :)

that's why i dropped it. no need to go down that path. :)

it's not a instigator of real change, just a display.

nobody claims it is

I guess were asking for ONE example (except for Texas v. Johnson) where flag burning has been an effective way of implementing public policy. Just one.

got us in to the ME with guns blazing, didn't it??? ;) :D

Food / HOME-MADE BLOODLESS, CASING-FREE KASZANKA (KISZKA) [4]

WOW.. POLONIUS.. COOL AND THANKS BUT IF THERE ARE ANY DEUTCHES AROUND THEN ONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND BLOOD SAUSAGE. THEY MAKE IT TOO ALTHOUGH THEY SEEM TO LIKE TO BOIL THEIRS OR SOMETHING.. SAME WITH SOUTHERN SLAVS.. THEY MAKE IT A BIT DIFFERENT..

OH, ALSO PUERTO RICANS ALSO EAT BLOOD SAUSAGE ALTHOUGH IT IS A BIT DIFFERENT. I'D VENTURE A GUESS THAT OTHER CENTRAL OR SOUTH AMERICANS MAY ALSO CONSUME IT.

Life / What do Polish people think of burning the national flags? [58]

why not actually do something about it, like lobby, or petition or meet with a politician

I AGREE BUT I TAKE IT YOU HAVEN'T DONE SO IN THE PAST THEN. LET ME TALL YOU THIS: "GOOD LUCK" ESPECAILLY IF THIS IS IN REGARDS TO ANYTHING POLISH. US REPS ARE PRETTY GOOD ABOUT ANSWERING TO THEIR CONSTITUENCY BUT THE PL GOV REPS ARE FREAKING WORTHLESS.

Life / What do Polish people think of burning the national flags? [58]

I've never knowingly burnt a flag, I wouldn't recommend it,

No, I aggree with donkey, there are better ways.

no there aren't it's the dignified way:

"The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by BURNING"

lol

Well in the UK the only flag your allowed to burn is the Union Jack, its considered very un PC if you burn any other flag :):):):)

rofl.. seems to be the case in the US too. i have never seen a hammas flag on fire here but then most have no clue that hammas even has a flag.

You may argue otherwise on some philosophical level, but by law they don't, and governments have been successfully sued if they caused a loss of life.

that has nothing to do with centralization of power. USA nor Canada have really centrilized governments. USA is moving towards that stance, so it seems anyway.

Wouldn't burning of the images of the government officials be more appropriate?

not really.i think a hitler mustache looked sexy on ol' GW. lol

Well, I AM curious being as you have no idea what I did in the Military:)

US military wasn't it? 'nough said.

On topic - burning flags contributes to global warming. Please recycle them in future

the proper way to dispose of a US flag is to burn it actually. not kidding either.

WOULD ANY OF YOU WANT TO BURN THIS FLAG?

which flag would that be?

Life / What do Polish people think of burning the national flags? [58]

this might be an appropriate moment to mention how much i love america and good ol uncly sam

lol.. suck up. :D :D

On what grounds would you appeal if you were convicted?

convicted of what? buring the flag is not illegal and it should never be.

Ok, but why don't you just leave? You compare the US to nazi Germany yet you still live here. Are you just full of hot air?

I'm a Veteran, what do you have to say to me?

you wouldn't like to hear what i would have to say so i'll spare you from my ideas. :D
the ptriotic thing would be to stay and fight for what you believe, not to leave.

Real Estate / Why are homes in Poland more expensive than in the USA? [27]

I worked in Great Neck, NY long time ago. School tax alone was $10K a year in late 1980's. Although admittedly, it was a kinda ritzy area.

and there are no ritzy overriced places in PL? seems all of pl is way, way overpriced.

What do polish people think of burning the national flags?

hey, wtf? this is not the original title!

While I could never condone the criminalization of the burning of the flag, I'm not sure I could condone the actual activity either. Freedom of Speech allows us to express our opinions and burning the flag certainly does that, but Freedom of Speech also allows us to use our words to express ourselves, to use nuance and irony and layered argument, it allows us the freedom to strive to make our voices heard more intelligently than simply setting fire to an object that means different things to many.

not every message needs to be complex. k.i.s.s. seems to work the best.

I think it is a fun activity to enjoyed by all!

i agree. they've tried banning it before, i doubt that it'll happen now.. well, i sure hope not anyway. i think the senators ought to concentrate on more important things and quit fvcking around.

Food / Polish grochówka recipe? [23]

parsley roots

actually that's parsnip

celeriacs,

celery

pre-soaked several hrs or overnight and drained

can be "shocked" instead as that is what i did and it came out wonderfully.
to shock: bring the peas and water to boil, boil for 1-2 minutes, then trun off the heat and let it rest for an hour then proceed to cook it.

Food / Polish grochówka recipe? [23]

oh ok. well, it's kind of like pea soup although it looks kind of like bean soup. the taste is somewhere in between. i didn't have a sieve and i kind of winged it but it had the split yellow peas, smoked kielbasa and marjoram in it so it was pretty good. :)

Travel / Where is this address in Warsaw [7]

it's here URL

yup, Ochota, W-wa

It is quite a distance from the square (if you're talking about the Old Town square).

not really. Central Station is maybe half way there. it is a walk but i wouldn't say all that far by PL standards.

Look before you jump ;)

that's wiki definition which i don't always believe. i also checked the translation from polish and yes it did say elk and deer as the definitions but i know that dictionaries can be very generalising. i have never heard moose being called elk.

so i guess i'll say 'sorry polonius.' :)

Food / Polish grochówka recipe? [23]

What's yellow peas? Do you mean yellow split peas?

same thing but they aren't beans. when you look this up there are a bout dozen different things that are called yellow peas.

i found a recipe but it's in Polish...

the problem isn't that it's in PL but metric. lol thanks girl.

Groch has to absolutely be in GROCHowka.

i don't think that's always the case.. i think fasolawas is sometimes called grochowka too.. it may depend on how it was made. grochowka is also a generic name for all bean-pea soups.

sometimes chick peas

you know that's one of the things they call yelow peas but i tried cooking those things and those aren't it.. they never softened up and i freaking cooked and cooked and then cooked them some more. lol

also:

i think the yellow pea is Lathyrus aphaca and not Pisum sativum

elk (US/Canada: moose).

elk is not a moose.. totaly different animals. please look it up before you lecture others next time. thanks

and actually most Novaks aren't polish in the 'new' world but come from other slavic countries like czech or slovania.. most of Nowaks are polish however. the name changing didn't necessarily happen the way you described at all. i've never seen one 'phonetic' polish name here in the US. it's either the same as it was back in PL, sans the marks, or it's so completely different that it's unrecognizable as Polish. see my first comment.

i am not sure where you pulled this info out but ellis island doesn't stink as bad, eh? rofl
