UK, Ireland / Heavy drinking culture in the UK - is it still the same in Poland? [69]

England feeds more than half of million of Polish people. Why will all of you bite the hand that feeds you? :)

Feeds? What the word......you can feed bird in little bird -house.

So, there are a few namby pambies out there...stuck with that Victorian attitude....laughable...who are these arbiters of how much or who should drink what......complete and utter bukum!

C'es la vie!

Remember Amathyst....there is only one thing worse than being looked over............and thats being over looked!!

Ok, so it doesn't work so well when the guys are drunk...lol...guys are always doing stupid things...why can't girls?......

What is your piont here?

I am fed up of reading about raped drunk women sooooo poor......they agreed or not...who remebers after so many drinks....

For me they they are only stupid and copmletely thoughtless...with zero self respect

Sorry this is my "victorian attitude"- my choice, my opinion.

Im an English binge drinker and my bf is a Polish alcoholic... does that mean we are compatible?

Definitely, you have the same hobby so you can spend together leisure time...:)

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

Drug use isn't a modern problem. Modernity itself has much to answer for regarding communications, cultural dilution, over crowding and all the other modern day competitive strains we put upon ourselves.

This creates more ill people than anything else

unfortunatey that is true....the best way- distance yourself a little from it...:)

Life / Cancer, diabetes. Diseases in Poland and other countries. [7]

I think that cancer is probbaly as often in Poland as it is in Europe, USA....

I don't know about diabetes....this one with is connected with obesity is probably more common in UK and USA than in Poland.

In UK there is some percentage of people who have cystis fibrosis( genetic desease)...

I never heard about it in Poland before. I don't know wthat is Polish translation for it?

UK, Ireland / We welcome Polish people to Britain! [224]

would you like to listen to "RADIO MARYJA" in english?

Do you think that they would like to invade Uk?:) They could struggle as old English ladies are more busy with bingo, meeting with nice cup of tea, gossiping.....:)

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

Iam just a typical working/lower middle class guy who likes a few indulgences here and there

I am probbaly classless in Uk - in Poland i was ...don't know middle class I suppose.

Such practice is widespread in most countries. It is self righteous, interfering governments who poke their noses in so many peoples business. If it is not 'yet another' tax, it's social engineering as well.

You are right too some extend English gov can be little patronising but I still find drugs very dnagerous....

At the end of the day, it's about personal responsibility and management. Not doing so much to excess is the trick.

Yes ok few little indulges ...... Unfortunately lots people wants to try more go far....And I will be cruel here but people should be responsible for their action, unfortunatey they are not so later all charities expect us to be sympathetic to drug addicts....I am not so much...Most poeple are rather weak so they probbaly shouldn't try....

Did you hear lately P Doherty speaking .....he is completely switched off....and someone said that he was so sensitive, gentle inteligent boy one day.... sad again.

I am probbaly little idealistic and like to have control over myslelf that is why binge drinking, drugs.....it is not for me.:)

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

If I wanted to mug or kill someone then that would be the way I am, but I'm not.
I have in previous years also indulged hallucinogenic drugs of good strength and enjoyed the occasion. It's all in the planning, the company kept and a positive attitude.

:(

Up and down Britain for instance, many people of skilled and economically viable backgrounds indulge drug use and get by just fine (

How can anyone assume that will "get by" just fine before starting? Noone knows how easy is his body to get addicted.

I was reading about these Ipswich prostitutes nad all of them were addicted to heroin( I didn't realise it is so expensive!!!) so they started selling themselves.

So they didn't do it because they couldn't find job ( law unemployment in Uk) or because they were very greeedy about money....they did it for drug, drugs...drugs.

I find it very sad.

UK, Ireland / Heavy drinking culture in the UK - is it still the same in Poland? [69]

Hobbitual,

What do you mean by"self respect" of woman?

polish are evry heavy drinkers, worse thna the UK, i went to a smal town, and there was still old folks lying on the grass at night pissed out of their skull, at first i was what the hell, because drunks in UK are violent, but poland, nt so violent, going by my experiences only.

manser,

When I was last time in Krakow we went with my friends for a meal , few drinks. We left at about 2am- Krakow main market was quiet few people still sitting outside, chatting ....

I would invite you to any English town at this time ( Saturday night).....just to compare.....:(

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

There is new girl in my team , very nice I really get on well with her....but

my colleague from othe team said she seems to be very confident.and ...she is miserable never smiles.....just says ....hello.....

My manager sees her as bit shy get easily embarassed....this girl told her that she needs time to open up......

It is strange so different perception i think that we got on well straight away that is why this girl was just herself with me but I suppose it shows another face of low self-esteem- being quiet not so easily approchable, closed bit defensive....

I am such a great guy that I would never intimidate someone showing his weak side (at least consiously) but I've seen sharks eating flesh out of such people and had my share of performing in defesnive mode afterward.

I am the same and hate people doing it.

I have learn about bullying here in Uk- it is treated quite seriously.
Thinking about it my first manager in Poland was big bully....but I don't even know polish equivalent word for it..

Life / Poles' tolerance towards other Races [190]

I feel nowadays there are too many young Polish people in Poland who think doing menial jobs is something derogatory and grabbing a pen is a dream job.

that is true. We are little snobbish. There is nothing wrong with menial job....

But- if someone works as builder, butcher,....in Poland it would be nice if he could do similar job on emigration- in the end of the day it someone profession.

The worst is if someone who is engineer, teacher, doctor....moves abroad do basic job year after year, loose all confidence and never moves on....

UK, Ireland / Heavy drinking culture in the UK - is it still the same in Poland? [69]

I was thinking about it. In UK there is heavy drinking culture.....I hear all the time about aggressive drunk women, vomiting drunk women injured drunk women, raped drunk women....

I know that not all of women do it. But I was brought in Poland on more self-respect culture..... in UK this word doesn't seem to mean much....

And I sometimes feel sorry to young girls here there is so big pressure on going out and drinking, drinking....that even if they don't like it they do it to be cool and accepted.

Is it the same changing in Poland now ?

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

Not only- The problem with DM is that this paper is negative about everything.....make syou feel littel depressed after reading it.

I am not so sure about Guardian- it is quite sophisitcated and artisitc....But has bit too left views for me.

Is it Labour paper?

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

I must admit I like some articles there - but just some.( and little picture stories in the end-my favourites about grumpy man and about dog).

I suppose DM is popular as it is in balanced middle between Sun or News of the world( tabloids) and Guardian, Financial times(more sophisiticated).

Miranda,

I suppose Financial Times is good paper ( maybe sometimes too sophisticated and too financial) but articles in it are quite sensible and reliable.
Times and Daily Telegraph is also quite good.

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

I don't know but they are very "England" orientated- which is ok to some extend before it gets narrow-minded.

Articles about Poland are completely twisted- but people here read it and believe.

Like....polish translator ( woman!) said that in Poland it is completely normal and acceptable that man ( stranger) gropes woman.... Is it !!!!!

or this article about so mnay polish children being born in UK...sounds as all these women escaped from Poland as from 3-rd world.....

Life / Polish people have low self-esteem? [80]

Wroclaw,

In Poland it is not so bad but abroad- we have quite low self-esteem.

I wouldn't say that everyone but majority has.

I didn't think like this before moving to UK- Ok, there are lots poeple here who learn quickly have some ambitious and look for better jobs. But there are also lots people well educated who are frightened to move on....I don't think it is laziness it is just lack of confidence.

Love / Advice for meeting her Polish parents! [44]

Nice flowers is a good idea and whisky or brandy(cognac) - it is good gift for father. You could also bring something - maybe nice sweets or something special from your own country.

I think that shaking hands with everyone is fine-it is formal but proper for first meeting.

I would recommend call them Pan/Pani . I guess that sooner or later they will ask you to call them by names.
