History / Western Europe and America vs Russia WWII - chances of Poland being saved [494]

Western forces alone would have been defeated.

Based on what evidence?

And the nuclear program of USA was known to Stalin to last detail due to soviet spies.US had only 3 atomic bombs till the end of 1945

So there would be a race to create more A-Bombs? What was the first Soviet test? The summer of 1949.

Are you saying the Allies could not produce additional atomic weaponry, and deliver it, by the summer of 1949?

News / Poland to ban Che Guevara image [55]

Beside of that such T-shirts are not that bad. When I spot such person I already know that an idiot is walking in front of me. You are immediately informed who you may deal with . If this is your employee then you already know who do you need to get rid during the first opportunity.

Bingo...

I am in total agreement with McCoy's assessment of Che Guevara but there is no better way of identifying an idiot than one that self advertises.

USA, Canada / HOLY SATURDAY FOOD BELSSING IN YOUR AREA? [13]

What's your connection (if any) to East Chicago?

EastChicago is where my my father's side of the family settled to after immigrating from the old country.

I remember taking the South Shore to my grandmother's sister's house when I was small.

News / Poland. Sold for nothing. [341]

Yes, because the British could have done so much to prevent Poland from being occupied by the Nazis and Soviets in 1939, couldn't they?

The British could have done much to prevent the SU from taking over Poland. Let's start with David Lloyd George, the English prime minister, who decided to lift the Royal Navy's blockade of Russia just as the Civil War seemed to be turning against the Reds. This act enabled the looting Soviets an outlet to sell their booty on the black market.

This enabled Lenin and his boys catch their second wind.

History / Russia to outlaw criticism of WWII tactics [57]

approach to the seelow heights.........

Well, using spotlights to signal your approach in addition to blinding the yourself because of the reflection due to the dust cover didn't help.

It also worked against Soviets that the Germans were heavily armed and firing from the high ground.

USA, Canada / Why are Poles still comming to the US and staying illegally? [27]

If my husband, who married a born-American citizen (bona fide), had such a hard time getting a work permit and green card then how do these illegal immigrants think they're going to get it?

There is a great deal of hope that Obama changes things to make it easier for Poles to become citizens of the US.

News / Forget Ukraine! The question is: " Is Poland going down??" [36]

The hoverers have swooped, Babinich. The FED will never put its hands up. The Bank of England either. It's an inadvertent redistribution of wealth.

I go with leverage, MBS obfuscation, and tragic government policy as the causes.

I have no problems with secularization of anything as long as proper risk analysis is conducted by all parties especially the rating agencies.

It's an inadvertent redistribution of wealth.

Welcome to America... America is about wealth redistribution and not about wealth creation. After all, if you create a dependency you've secured your voting base.

I think that Babinich is pulling your leg to see how much general knowledge he can pull out of you. I think is knows about the US crisis;),

Miranda, you're one smart cookie. Welcome back...:')

News / Forget Ukraine! The question is: " Is Poland going down??" [36]

As you are no doubt aware, it is the gross mismanagement of banks that have been the primary cause of the crisis.

This "gross mismanagement" you speak of, did government play a part in any of this?

News / Forget Ukraine! The question is: " Is Poland going down??" [36]

The country lost billions whilst the corporations themselves reaped the benefits.

Is it your opinion that 'Laissez-faire Capitalism' practiced by America caused the world wide downturn we see today?

I'm not here to give free exposes on the dynamics of the financial system.

Your experience in the world of finance makes your opinion matter more than most. So, you do have an opinion; care to share it?

Language / agresywne/agresywnym; Confused about when to use nominative and instrumental [3]

Martin,

I too am learning the language. My initial take is that the ending of the adjective must correspond to the gender of the noun it is modifying. Dziecko is neuter; that is why I believe you see the neuter endings on the adjectives. As for the case, I see nie. For me, the Genitive case spring to mind.

History / Any apologies about Sikorski's 'murder'? [95]

I think you should have said that both Churchill and Roosevelt could not face up to Stalin...

HWPiel,

I think both Churchill and Roosevelt would not face up to Stalin... Stalin bluffed them, outsmarted them, tricked them, you pick the verb.

News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

You all felt for your Polish countryman right? If it was upto you, you would take the honor of beheading them and playing football with their heads.
You feel angry and frustrated over his killing although noone here claims to know him personally.

I, according to some on this board, happen to be a plastic Pole. What I feel is sadness because a son is deprived a father.

What I want is justice.

You are wrong. It is because USA has poor education system

Sorry but the lack of educational excellence in American stems from parental indifference and laziness.

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

Yet the European powers were allowed to keep their colonies, as were the USSR. The Atlantic Charter therefore did not constitute a US obligation to Poland.

The Atlantic Charter singled out no particular nation as being special. FDR laid out his determination to shape a post-war world free of colonialism, poverty and illiteracy. This means that FDR wanted to eliminate backward colonial policy. Can you guess who was in the cross hairs?

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

It seems as if the quotes are being associated with the wrong folks.

But I personally do not see how Sikorski or his government's position re a Red Cross investigation of Katyn would mean Sikorski was a target of some USSR, USA or British sponsored assasination conspiracy?

sjam,

All I am saying is that Poland, being one of the allies, was left out of many discussions. I am not implying in any way that any of the Big Three had designs on assassinating Sikorski.

My key points:

* The Atlantic Charter was not worth the paper it was written on.
* The word of Churchill & Roosevelt meant nothing.

Can the US be blamed? Possibly, but what did they owe Poland?

The obligation of honoring the Atlantic Charter.
