Love / Polish attitude towards sex [194]

I cannot reveal the country I am from because there are many stereotypes in this forum

Strikes me that you are using the very generalisations that you accuse us of my friend.

Southern - why are you asking us questions? You seem to know most of the answers already. There is a danger that some of your wisdom is being lost amongst many threads. Why don't you start your own advice thread so they are all in one place. We could call it the 'Southern Masterclass' or something.

Russian girls look like polish but are more diverse

Because there are large numbers of girls from the old Eastern republiccs (azerbajan etc) living within the boundaries of Russia perhaps?

They also play in first league.

Yep... they all live in and play for Chelsea.

Depends.

If I've got loads of Marriott points I stay there cos they all know me !

I've still got an apartment in Centrum so if it's not being let I stay there.

Otherwise I use Hotelspoland and get the latest deals. They have a five star 'mystery' offer usually which gets you in to the Marriott. Victoria, SAS, type hotels for a good rate, expecially weekends.

My favourite cheaper place is the Gromada centrum. Not brilliant but very covenient.

Love / Symbol of polish of love to surprise my fiance [26]

Is there the same stigma about the number of flowers that you give like in Russia where even numbers of flowers are usually for bereavements and you give odd numbers for happy occasions? I know this was disappearing in Moscow with time. Kind of confusing for us Brits where a doxen red roses is THE floral gift.

Note to wife (because I know you're on line darling) - all my flower giving has been for friends weddings. Honest

Life / Polish positive attitude [24]

Correct. I'm a Brit. I'm also an optimist by nature, but tinged with realism. I believe in what I wrote. You cannot undo 60 years of history in three years. It takes a bit longer than that. I think there will be interesting parallels with the Irish experience. Not so long ago the Irish economy was struggling. After some inward investment from the private sector and the EU things picked up. I have lost count of the Irish American and Anglo-Irish friends of mine who have moved back, armed with business acumen and experience gained from working abroad to make new businesses there. Now the Irish economy is very strong. I believe the same will happen to Poland. The only warning I would give is not to accept too much inward investment so that the capital in Poland is not owned entirely by the US, GB, France & Germany.

Life / Relocated from the US: Warsaw or London? [24]

I live here two years now and it's fabulous

I guess we Brits would classify it as the up and coming area. Reminds me a lot of bit sof London that were awful a few years ago but are now becoming very fashionable

Maybe a bit fatalistic then. Partly I think this is due to Poland's history since 1945. On the other hand that history may well be a contributory factor to some other traits that I saw. The 'can do' attitude, inventiveness, wanting to beat all the barriers. My view is that the fatalist nature will erode over time. This is really a new dawn for Poland, a new chapter in your history. I bet Poland will be a big success going forwards. I wish you all well.

History / Soviet war monuments in Poland - what to do about them? [133]

The article says there are about 2K communist era monuments in Poland.

Who is going to buy the Palace of Science & Culture in Warsaw? Get rid of the offices, close down Ground Zero and voila, thousands of desirable down town apartments. I thnk I know the man for the job.......

Love / In love with one polish girl (but she loves my money) [32]

I meant, what does the occupation have to do with a stupidity of people (country) that are occupied?

It's not stupidity, it's carelessness. Of course There is no substance to this particular post from the guy from the South. I think he was angry about something when he wrote it. To quote LS he needed to calm down. !

Life / Relocated from the US: Warsaw or London? [24]

Is the same true of London?

Having lived in NYC and London, I would say that for a family both are unsuitable. The travle times, congestion and quality of schools (unless you pay for private education), the relative lack of green spaces all make them far from ideal for families. Since you have the same salary I would go for Warsaw. There are some good schools where lack of Polish langauge skills would be less of an issue if you pay for them and the city is smaller. My time in Warsaw was great (three years of Monday-friday) and the people were tremendous. In my view London is absolutely amazing if you are young or have no kids. For your children to appreciate a completely different culture in Warsaw would be great.

Life / New Balace shoes prices in Poland [18]

It could well be that the Polish government adds an extra "tax" to imports,

I guess that was the obvious answer Frank.... I got embroiled in supply & demand theory.... Did they get dispensation from the EU to do that... If so, how long for?

Smaller market of affluent poles and expats. There is no way the average earning Varovian could afford those prices

There can't be much competition in Warsaw then. If there was, prices would fall as the retailers unloaded the stock..... Is the 'Russian' market still going down at the Stadium... loads of bargains there.
