Language / Polglish - mixture of Polish and English [34]

What do the other forum members think ?

I think that for me it would be an excellent idea. It certainly seems to work for French, mind you, the origins of French are a little different.

Love / Does speed dating exist in Poland? [10]

I have a friend that has done this several times, I personally think its a bit silly how on earth are you meant to form an opinion of a person in 2 minutes

I agree. If most people who met a Polish girl and decide in a few moments to spend the rest of their lives with them they have the rest of their lives to regret their impulsive decisions at leisure. Have you ever seen how unhappy a henpecked man looks in public. Take my advice and marry first. Then meet a Polish girl and get married. After a couple of months you can simply walk away from the marriage as it was adulterate from the start!

Language / "Jest Mi" vs "Jestem" - the difference [11]

Jestem Anglikiem i jestem bardzo zadowolony tutaj. Przykro mi ze taz zle zawolalem sie wczorai.

Dzisiaj pogoda jest fantastyczna a wiec mi tak cieplo

I jestem bardzo cieply would be in the sense that by body has been cooked in an oven! Sometimes these impersonal expressions therefore have to be used.

wczorai.

Sorry, that should have been spelt wczoraj!

Jest mi means "there is me".

for me it is...

Life / Sending Post inside Poland. [13]

es Michal.... opening parcels. They are allowed to do that you know. have you ever heard of Customs ? the

Yes, but there was no customs as the parcel was taken by car to Poland and then was posted inside Poland at a normal Polish post office. It was then opened and the banknote was taken somewhere whilst on transit INSIDE Poland.

Work / Wizzair/Lot airlines - working for them [14]

I was thinking about that myself. If you are working in cabin crew between Poland and England they may be looking for bilingual staff. It might be a problem especially with so many young people in Poland knowing English already. Anyway, good luck!

Language / Learning Polish - need courses or books !!! [17]

"Teach Yourself Polish" by M. Corbridge-Patkaniowska. Published 1967 by The English Universities Press.

Yes, a very good book but who said anything about 1967? I have a copy of the book and it was written oringanally during the war years! But I agree, a thorough book.

Or try 'Colloquial Polish' by Bolesław W. Mazur, published by Routledge.

Another very good book and I have a new one with the cassette which cost me £1.50 at the A3 car boot some time ago. Again, this book has been rewritten and there is a new version out now but I have never worked through it to see how it compares with his original good version.

Language / About presentation in Polish [12]

And the word "Czy" (in this context). How do i translate it.

Czy is simply a tag on that a question is being asked and like the French est-ce-que for instance est-ce que vous etes anglais?-Are you English? Czy pan jest anglikiem czy polakiem? Are you English or Polish? Therefore, czy is equivalent to the question 'is it to say that' whereas czyli means the definite affirmative response, 'that is to say that...'

UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

the biggest pile of steaming do do Ive heard from you yet.....See POLITYKA 25 sierpnia Nr34 and then tell me no Poles collaborated. Yes there was no such thing as a Polish ss division blah blah but certainly plenty did collaborate ,if they didn't,why did K diw have Hit squads dedicated to shooting traitors and collaborators. Might be uncomfortable

A lot of people must have collaborated with the Germans in World War 2, otherwise a small country like Germany could not have had the strength and effect that it did without considerable amounts of help. I have heard that the Poles themselves rid Poland of most of the Jews. It is always the same, a strong government comes to power and stays there by allowing biased people at home to get their way and/or their own back in return for supporting the new regime by being nasty and there are many nasty people in Poland.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

Quote Today, 11:29 . #61

i reali do h8 some of them i live under 4 polish men and they r all ingnorant n very aggresive
there music is on at 6 in the mornin be4 they go to work which is a constant nuicance

You meet good and bad wherever you go but as I have said before, this new Polish breed is not the same as the old educated class. The new generation of Polish workers are simply failed matura candidates who are escaping military service which they have to perform should they stay in Poland.

UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

In fact they are much worse in english than me and just clean british asses.

They do not come to England necessarily in an educated capacity. Cleaners can clean knowing Arabic, they come to earn money as there are few opportunities back home. I have heard that there is work in Poland but for almost no pay.

Travel / Bydgoszcz - Poland's Great Secret [30]

he Women in Bydgoszcz are Incredibly Beautiful. It is Amazing!

Actually, the girl I knew was quite nice there and in fact her friend was a real stunner! However, the town itself was dreary. I am sorry if I have offended any Bydgoszcz fan though. Obviously, I was talking about the streets and houses and the dirt not about the Polish young themselves.

Well, thanks you dimwit too because as I said it was nothing to do with me personally, it was not my packet. I would not send anything to anybody in Poland. but all the same you do not expect your packets to be opened and the contents to be stolen do you? Yes, you are right and there are probably bank transfer schemes but how does that justify staff stealing mail? Accept what I have said or you too can idz do diala! Wszystko mi jedno!

Travel / Bydgoszcz - Poland's Great Secret [30]

Hey... what is it with Bydgoszcz? Seems like Poland's best kept secret. I

I am pleased to hear that it is one of Poland's little secrets and I for one will take legal action if necessary to protect everybody from the secret from ever getting out. Somehow Bydgoszcz reminds me of New York's night life, only in the case of Bydgoszcz at least at night you can not see the bloody rotten place! I do indeed know this town very well and quite franclly, it is

awful! A nasty horrible town with no soul whatsoever. Nasty dreary streets with by far the worst streets in Poland to drive on. I always knew when I got within the city's limits as my poor little car started to shudder. Very rarely did I visit such a God forsaken place in Poland and I have been to some real nasty pits but Bydgoszcz was by far the worst disappointment in my life.

Geez, Michal, you don't accept registered mail if the package had been open, how hard is that to figure out?

It was not my mail to tell you the truth, it was my wife having something sent to somebody in Poland.

Life / Sending Post inside Poland. [13]

You have to be very careful as to what you send through the post in Poland as there are a hell of a lot of thieves out there. We had a parcel sent to Poland and it was then entered in to the usual postal system a packet with a ten pound note and a present. The present arrived but the packet had been opened and the money taken. The packet had to be delivered as it was sent registered mail. Beware! Never send anything of value.

Life / Why not live in Nowa Huta? [29]

I posted some time ago what my occupation is. I'm honest you see......unlike some. Go and have a look. So why on earth would I want to change my occupation........you are such a silly man, very, very silly indeed.

I have no idea what your occupation is and I have never asked. In fact I think it was Daisy or Polkadoll who said something to the effect that The Lady in Red would make an excellent teacher of English. I never started this bloody topic at all. Do not call me a stupid man as you are obviously a silly girl!

I think Lady in Red would make an excellent English teacher, not rotten at all

There you are, I have found it at last, I said nothing about The Lady In Red nor did I start this topic. Enough said.

UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

385,000 young UK citizens emigrated to other countries? It sounds like a trade off. Ha

No it is not because you will find that a lot of these people are the skilled young who will look for futures in nice countries like Australia and not in Krakow!

so your agreeing that your a pompus .. you walked into that one michal..

Not really as I wrote it!

ou also re write the polish language to suit your 'head' too.......

Yes, I am no expert-I simply like to dabble and why not? I make mistakes all the time and learn from those mistakes. The Polish on this forum also make dreadful mistakes too for that matter. You can not expect me to think in three languages at all times together and faitr any better than anybody else. After all, I am not a professional translator and I do not expect payment If people want a professional job they can always go and pay a translator for their services! On the whole, I can make myself understood in Poland and I never have any problems it is just another slavonic language at the end of the day with a simplified alphabet! Try Russian translation some day and see the true difference!

Yes, I must agree, she sounds very pompous-even worse than me!

"since 1945 and that my relatives no longer alive spoke a very different Polish language to that spoken today

Am I right or wrong? The language has indeed changed a lot over the years so too has English but not in the same way or at the same speed.

I am sorry, but I really do not understand the above sentence.

You do come over as a little bit arrogant but sometimes I say something and it is interpreted in the wrong way. That is the trouble where you have a forum but you can not see the people to whom you are addressing.

"kmiotish" behavior can be only seen by another Pole.

What does that mean?

rue on average leaving university puts you in a lot of debt in this country ie the UK so obtaining a degree definitely is not FREE.

Mind, you, they are still pretty cheap. You can take out loans and you do not have to pay anything back until you start to earn over a certain amount. When you reach fifty, the loans are all wiped out anyway.

Keep in mind that many of these PL are also attending university and getting an education. If the opportunity and experience is there, why not take it? Being 'go getter' has proven to be a success in most cases. Just

Yes I understand that and I would do the same. I do not blame the poles for what they do I blame the British Government for allowing it happen in the first place. I was always against British membership of the Common Market, as it was all those years ago because I could see the future when the Russian soldiers would return to their homeland after their magnificiant work freeing eastern Europe in 1945. Why should I pay taxes for Czech swimming pools, Bulgarian roundabouts, Polish students and Greek Leisure centres? It is beyond me! In Polish czarna magia.

UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

No, they aren't stupid. The fact is that a degree from a UK Uni looks a lot better to future employers than a degree fr

Exactly, they never have a good word to say about the English or the British education system but they know that a free British degree given as a 'home student' looks better. That says it all!

, but fortunately I don't 'fancy' being a prick.

you do not have to be and nobody asked you to go anywhere and be anything that you do not want to be? Did I demand something from you? And I am sure that there are now a lot of Polish at British universities, they come because they love the cheap costs involved, they are not stupid, they do that for their own long-term goals, not for us! Think about it a little. I used to see the Poles in Moscow years and years ago and I know how they behave!
