Love / My Polish guy won't tell me his feelings about me - is it usual? [15]

Hi Ancilla - Sounds genuine then. Sometimes its hard for people to share their feelings, especially when there is a language barrier. Maybe by buying you a ring could be his way of demonstrating to you how he feels. Actions speaking louder than words - so to speak.

History / Cud nad Wisla / Battle of Warsaw 1920 - Public Holiday [21]

I am sure as some of you know today is a Public Holiday in Poland and also Cud na Wisdla - Battle of Warsaw 1920.

The Battle of Warsaw (sometimes referred to as the Miracle at the Vistula, Polish: Cud nad Wisłą) was the decisive battle of the Polish-Soviet War, which began soon after the end of World War I in 1918 and lasting until the Treaty of Riga (1921).

Life / Palliative Care in Poland [8]

Hey PD - Try some specialist search engines like Athens or the E-Library - you will have to register with them.
There is also a Journal of European Cancer Care.
Try using the search tool on this site icn.ch to search for Polish nursing info.

News / Poland biggest problem [125]

Old-fashioned business laws that hinder development and promote bureaucracy.

It appears to me they are getting the grants etc but they need experienced business- minded folk to manage it. Why they can't "do an Ireland" and drop the base rate for business tax. If Ireland can do it on the edge of Europe surely Poland can do it, look at the logistics for distribution, networking etc - ideal !

Life / Polish people hate jeans? [56]

I bought a pair of jeans in Poland. Black ones.

I bought a pair out of "New Look " in Gdansk- much cheapness - washed them once and they turned out a kind of marbled effect, unfortunately so did the rest of my wash.

Bought another pair out of the Big Star shop, been in the bottom of my wardrobe for over a year now, never worn them but I am thinking of painting my shed soon...............

Life / Army National Service in Poland [95]

desperate times...

I wouldn't underestimate the significance of this. Mother Russia is slowly taking control of the hydrocarbons across Europe. One of the main problems of hydrocarbon extraction is getting them to their destination. With this exploration the pipeline would not have to cross any political boundries.

News / How Poles truly feel about their situation in Poland and being in EU? [76]

Ian Smith was a spitfire or a Hurricane fighter pilot

His Hurricane crashed on take off in 1943 and in 1944 he was shot down in his Spitfire. He served in the RAF with No 237 ( Rhodesia ) Squadron. I believe he is still alive and living in the Cape or thereabouts.

Work / Any Law Enforcement Officers (Police) from Poland here? [40]

I think all forces have Armed Response Vehicles available to call upon. Iam against guns but obviously there are exceptions.
The Scottish Police Force lead the way in crime detection now though......

News / How Poles truly feel about their situation in Poland and being in EU? [76]

that Poles came to England and engaged the enemy overseas.

I read this as a reference the Polish who made their way to England and joined the Free Polish who then went on to fight in North Africa etc

Handy to have this PDF on your PC but I would think twice before printing it off !

polish.slavic.pitt.edu/dictionary.pdf

It is quite a large file - maybe not what you would want to take on your travels and is only PL - Eng.

The argument "for" the license is that you dont get any commercials, the BBC commission nature documentaries, drama and impartial news reporting.
It has been in the news itself lately for rigged phone in competitions and for making up statistics on its political programmes - bringing its integrity into question.

And they have crap sports coverage !!!

It's just wrong IMO.

Darn right ! Even if you dont watch any BBC channels you have to pay. Just having a TV that is able to receive them is enough.

There are even detector vans that go round detecting whether you are watching TV - seriously !!!!

What exactly is a TV license?

I think it is around £118. If you have a T.V. you have one.
It funds the BBC.

Yes it is a bad joke.
