History / Why has Poland been attacked so often by its neighbors? [180]

Poland had a little trouble with Sweden at some time or other. Is that true? Any long term grudges?

nope

Canadians only set fire to the White House just the once.

under the union jack, jack.. them wuzn't 'nadiens. ;)

Yes, the rise of German Pan nationalism, Hitler and all that. Their cruelty was their form of whining about WWI and whatever other things that pissed them off. So they tried to kill as many people as possible.

lol. right on bro. actually they still whine about pomerania. they think it's theirs because the darn tutons roamed it once.. not that it was theirs in the first place.. we finally kicked them out and the gerries still have issues about it and that was some 500 y/o. :D

Because everyone wanted to own her. Here in the States we are much safer no one wants us. :)

new mehico, tehas and kalifornia are all going back to our neighbours from the south. :D

WWI gave land and people away to build new states regardless of the ethnic Germans who lived there - partitions anybody???

you start ****, you lose, that's what happens. thos lands weren't german anyway. you get what you deserve.

History / Why has Poland been attacked so often by its neighbors? [180]

..they blew it.

blankets anyone.. from a nnice gentelman named Mad Anthony? lol

Poland never colonized unlike their European brothers, on one hand it's something to be proud of that we didn't contribute to suffering and so on but on the other hand maybe the nation would be richer these days.

huh? look into this further.

Real Estate / United States Tax Laws for sale of property inherited in Poland [10]

if you're a US citizen you will have to pay up to the piper. as inheritance goes though, if the property isn't super high value then your tax shouldn't be that bad. talk to an accountant about this. (US). i wouldn't really do much in PL besides selling. you won't get a straighforward answer no matter how hard you try.

if it was me, i'd change the money to euros and leave it there invested in one of the markets there.

if you're not a US citizen then don't ever mention this to US and still leave the dough on the other side of the pond.

Life / "Why bother!" - Experiences of life in Poland... [47]

what i am saying is that poles don't understand the true principle of supply/demand and may never get it. that is not how it's worked since '45 it will be a while before it catches on.

Poland must be the only place in the world where 1. you have to pay tax on your on previously owned 16 year old car and 2. the value of the car hasn't depreciated in 4 years.

nope, same in the USA. any sale means there is a tax associated with it.

let the right people in.

yes, the right people.. hmmm

Teach the greed fuker about supply and demand.

the demand the price and you better supply, that's all they know. the other doesn't matter for some reason.

I keep saying it, living in Poland on certain salaries is black magic

lots of black magic in PL.

USA, Canada / POLISH AMERICANS AND THE 2008 US ELECTION [79]

It has nothing to do with race, gender, or skin color, except with an extremely small minority,

you're way wrong on that man. what other flag flies on the SC capital besides the palm tree one?

"Racial Resentment Index"
google.com/search?q=%22Racial+Resentment+Index%22&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

besides he's so left that it's not funny.

Based on the color, which would you choose?

hey, i agree with you but that doesn't mean that what you're saying is the way it is. imho of course

Travel / WE ARE BACK FROM POLAND AND HERE IS OUR REPORT [96]

This may sound like a silly question, but is Poland a dog friendly place? I was just in Munich,Germany and if I brought my dog I could have taken her everywhere that I went. I wish I knew that before going.

except on the plain. why put your poor pup through that hassle?

Travel / WE ARE BACK FROM POLAND AND HERE IS OUR REPORT [96]

I missed the hyper-intellectual discourse so I'm back

lol.. i bet. :D

In all honesty we made a mistake on only allowing 2 days in Warsaw because some of it was hampered by jet lag from the US. I believe Warsaw has lot to offer but we didn't give it a chance. I must admit I am biased against large cities and instead love the quant romantic small cities and villages. All our pictures are on video tape.
If we return we will give Warsaw the time it needs to be truly appreciated.

i hope you have a chance but i understand your liking of the country. it is something else too. i miss the quaintness of polish countryside, for sure. and i hope you come back here and ask away and then tell us about your adventures all over again as this report is just fantastic.

USA, Canada / How to send money back home (to the US) [12]

thanks rjrogalla and spiritus (i'll check out the pics in a little bit)

the smile thing: poles (and most eurpeans) are just very reserved people thus no smiling. it was hard to get used to that in the US and i still get "why are you so serious?" from many people. i think randompal kind of hits it. to non smilers it seems that the ones that are smiling are upto no good or at least something fishy is going on.

good to see you back randompal.

you said questions so here we go. lol this $300/day is for two or per person?
mpg on the car? the $10/gal... ouch.

and did you walk around the old warsaw? the square is just a part. there is a lot of cool stuff through out. also Krakowskie Przedmiescie (st.) from the Castle, and Nowy Swiat (prolongation of the first) are the old jewels of the city. warsaw has always been on that street. hope you didn't miss the £azienki park. my personal favourite.

“kotlet schabowy”

breaded pork chop

glad you liked the food, polish is my fav too. :)

i also would be cool with hearing more about warsaw. pics?
