UK, Ireland / POLISH ADMIRATION FOR THE IRISH GENIUS JAMES JOYCE [63]

the Irish have a habit of exaggerating the talents of their (mostly) mediocre artists

Van Morrison - mediocre? I personally don't think so, neither would I say Enya or Clannad are. I think you have exaggerated the lack of talent the Irish have! Oh sorry, did I forget the world famouse U2...silly me! More recent bands such as Snow Patrol seem to have enjoyed the lime light too.

Love / Love my polish girlfriend alot but under pressure from family [166]

I m almost sure that he is Turkish :) I m waiting for his reply.

I see you are married or marrying a Polish girl - how did your parents take it - or are they "modern" mulsims :-D.

As you said it is a cultural thing, I feel that the more educated the family the less problems they have with cross cultural marriages, the problem with the less educated is they cannot see further than the end of the village and also there is the chain immigration - marrying someone from "back home" takes another family member over to europe...and this is more a Pakistani thing or do Turkish famlies living abroad often send "back home" for a wife or husband?

LOL!, Now what girl in her right mind, could fall in love with a worm like that?

One who is being lied to left right and centre - unfortunately as they say "love is blind" :(

He used the term ''modern muslim'' :D this is a term used in Turkey very often lately,

Turkish muslims are "moderate" and yes they drink and smoke, this is nothing new, I mean they brew their own beer and spirits (Efes and Raki) - I think this guy is Pakistani - they seem to use the word "modern" rather than "moderate" since they perceive this behaviour as "modern"

You obviously do not love this girl as much as you say - you have lied to her about your family - you are living two different lives and both are a lie - being a "modern" muslim means nothing. I do not want to sound harsh, but the only decent thing you can do is finish this relationship - you will only hurt this girl in the end - your parents will have their way and you will marry a nice village girl or cousin from back home - the Polish girl will get over it and maybe learn a lesson that dating a muslim is a futile thing to do.

You sound like a pathetic wimp who hasn't got the balls to stand up to his parents, I could understand it if you were female as the consquences are much more severe, but a man!

By the way when you say "modern mulsim", all you mean by this is that you drink, smoke and have sex outside of marriage! So all you do is disrespect your religion, there is nothing modern about that!

News / Poland will take half a century to catch up with the West [240]

>>>stupid back home my medical aid covers my teeth eyes and even people contact lenses>>>

He means medical insurance - a basic "Hospital Saturday" insurance policy can cover you for what he mentioned - it costs as little as £3 per month...

spend at least 30 to 45 minutes waiting in a long line snaking outside my local post office / corner shop to post my letters. Every day. In London. I think it's damn crap!!!!!! ;-p

Why? You can buy stamps from anywhere and we have these little red things call "post boxes" that you can put your letters in.

Look, Magdalena, why are you actually in the UK, since you hate so much about it! I am actually sick to death of you incessant whining! Why not go back to Poland where everything is perfect...You know, you must have had a really bad life in Poland to have been driven to come to such a hell hole such as the UK!!!

As for this whole topic...who cares when Poland will be supposedly on parr with the rest of Europe - from what I saw in my 3 visits they are a modern western country who could hardly be classed as "backwards"

Life / Are Polish People Hypochondriacs? [50]

in my job as community interpreter have seen many genuinely ill people sent home with some paracetamol.

3) They have a friend who went to an English doctor with broken leg/Cancer/child birth (delete as necessary) and where given just an Aspirin

ROFL :)

I haven’t been to the docs for a long time and the last time I was there, I received medication which was appropriate for a renal and urinary infection! Maybe they tell these people to take an aspirin because there isn't actually anything wrong with them!

I was out with a friend who is a doctor on Friday and she was soooooooooo pissssed off because of the idiots coming into the hospital (A&E) with a "cold" not "flu" a "cold" TIME WASTERS!!!

The same goes for stuff such as smear tests, which are performed once in 3 years in the UK, while the Polish recommendation is once a year. I would rather have two tests too many than one too few.

What is the cervical cancer survival rate in Poland in comparison to the UK?

Honey if you don't like it here, which it would seem you don't go back to your perfect health service in Poland - where you have to actually "bribe" someone to ensure you get your test once a year!

Love / Was I wrong or is it just my polish gf [26]

But she always tells me that her friends warn her about Indian guys who are players with women.

Because of the whole culture thing - arranged marriage etc the fact you are just staying in Dublin for whatever reason (for life? for studies? on a work visa?) I think asian men have a reputation for not being the most upfront with European women and they are just there for a "convenience" whilst they are away from home. So her friends are quite right in what they say.

Why not ask your girlfriend? And why are you so intent on keeping contact with a girl that your girlfriend obviously doesnt want you talking to?

Is this an Indian cultural thing for men to want girls to flirt with them whilst they are in a relationship?

Oh, did I mention I am Indian, maybe we have too many cultural differences

Probably.

Life / POLES' ENGLISH COMPARED TO EUROPE AS A WHOLE? [39]

Where would you rank the level of Polish people's English in general

I hate to say this but I would say quite poor, Ive met some Poles that speak little or no English, I have never met a Spaniard or Greek or Italian with such low skills after a couple of years in the country.

Life / Indian moved to Poland [532]

They are interesting... I have turbunated friend....but not all of them in India wear turban...and not all who are muslim wear turban!...

Sikhs wear a turban, hindus do not, muslims are niether sikhs nor hindus.

This guy got problems with nutrition... otherwise Indian food wouldnt be so famous in UK and other European countries.

It's not, most of the restaurants are actually Pakistani owned not Indian - and dishes are a mixture of pakistani and indian

Jalfareze = Pakistani dish
Masala = Pakistani dish
Pasanday = Pakistani dish

UK, Ireland / 10,000 Poles in UK for free abortions [58]

Abortion in the UK is as easy as making an appointment for a dentist (actually it's easier to get an abortion than a scale and polish), a friend of mine who works in the NHS said now a person doesn't even have to go to their GP there is actually a "hotline" number where they can ring and be given an appointment at a hospital that is convenient to the caller!!! Abortion is not another form of contraception, but I am not anti abortion, if a woman wants one fair enough, it's her that has to live with the guilt for the rest of her life, there is always a price to pay!.

If it can only survive by sucking the blood of a host, it is a parasite and people have the right to decide whether they allow parasites to carry on sucking their blood or not.

Lol, Harry that's a bit strong !

Not officially a child until after 23 weeks.

23 weeks

My friends little girl (now 16) was born at 26 weeks - I personally think a maximum of 18 weeks is long enough for a woman to decide to get it done -

Law / Do you want to import quality garmants in best price? [9]

Aha... :). How was the day Shelleys? Hope you are fine :D...well it seems so!

Im very well thank you, and your good self?

This cant be the work of a 6 yrs old boy.

Unfortunately this happens on a regular basis, not all children have the option of a childhood or eduction :(

And then, if they boy is 12 or 14... and this is his work. I would say 'good job'. Maybe this job gave him hope, food and medicine for his family. Those are countries which survive harsh realities. They need our love and honor.

Of course I understand this, but things need to change in their governments to enable children to be educated and to stop this perpetual poverty.

It is better for a boy to work and earn a living in a harsh world... then to be sexually exploited or die hungry.

They are exploited and abused in other ways, again this is an issue for their country to resolve - foreign aid doesn't seem to have helped.

For their betterment, its not only the responsibility for their own country people...Nay....its the responsibility of the whole human kind. He is one of us. The same kind...the same race...the Human Race.

This is why I buy purchase as many "fair trade" products as I can - I would rather enjoy something that was produced in a good working evironment by people who were paid a fair wage for a fair days work, where the parents can ensure that their children can be educated and enjoy a childhood.

Did you know that most people don't pay tax in these kinds of countries, there is no proper infrastructure or taxation system - people live "hand to mouth" with no real future - for countries like Bangladesh to move forward and to help the children of tomorrow, governments have to take responsibility and the west has to be prepared to pay a higher price for consumables, they are after all cheap for a reason!

Love / Little advice please - another guy called my Polish fiance beautiful. [47]

Because your an idiot and didn't read my post saying this was all sorted?

Well, we've heard it all before on PF and let's just read your posts and see who the actual idiot is?

Also what kind of a person would write off an entire nation of women based on one experience?

Do a search you idiot! There are plenty of topics where men have been dumped and then slagged of the entire female population of Poland!

Would seem a bit racist to me,

Stupid more like it.

Wimps, lol, haven't heard that for a while

Me either but I may start using it again :)
