UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

well to some, there is a subtle difference... when I first moved to London, people thought I was a scouser.. as they couldnt tell the difference between Midlands and Scouse accents... I even got chased down the street in Croydon by a gang of hoodies calling me a scouse *****... so I followed them home later and burgled them :)

how about the Midlands... the true heart of England..home to faggots and mushy peas and famous for industries such as glass blowing, steel works and saddlery. the people are very friendly indeed and most have a great sense of humour (you need it to live there), there is a growing Polish community and drinks and houses (in no particular order) are amongst the cheapest in the UK... you may have problems understanding the local accent though.

UK, Ireland / Negative attitude towards Polish immigration in UK becoming stronger [90]

I am English and live in London with my Polish bf. We went to Blackpool on holiday and he loved it.. I think it was mainly the trams that did it.. he would love to move there.. is there much work for painters? .. .. Anyway, Im sure you dont need another Pole.. Seriously though, I think BlackpoolUK has a fair point. The government does need to do something about the huge influx of immigrants.. as racial tension is increasing in many regions.. and I think its worse outside of the Capital.

Love / Are you in a Polish-nonPolish relationship? [150]

sorry I dont know what to advise, but even if you do marry, Im not sure that will give you the right to remain in the UK, since neither of you are UK citizens. Probably best to check with home office for exact rules and regs... otherwise, take her back to NZ.. its gotta be better than living here.. the way things are going.

Love / Foreigners in relationships with Poles - do your in-laws accept you? [66]

ah, thats nice to hear.. thanks. .. and yes, I know that many Poles drink and cheat... but so do many Brits too. Good luck to you both.. I hope one day my potential in-laws may accept me. His brother and wife have, although Ive yet to meet them.. so guess thats a start. The irony is that his mother hated his wife and thought she wasnt good enough for him, but now theyve become best buddies..

Love / Are you in a Polish-nonPolish relationship? [150]

Im no expert on this, but Im English and living with a Pole in the UK. My understanding is that as a EU citizen he has the right to remain here indefinitely even if we dont marry.

As a Kiwi, you will presumably be on a limited time work permit and therefore only have the right to remain in the UK for as long as that lasts. Your girlfriend should be able to stay here as she is a EU member. Not sure about whether you should get married.. but staying in the UK isnt a good enough reason to take that step.. unless you want to do it anyway. Hope this is useful and anyone feel free to correct me if Im wrong.

Love / Foreigners in relationships with Poles - do your in-laws accept you? [66]

oh dear.. well thanks for that. I know that I will never be accepted by the family.. suppose it doesnt help that he left his Polish wife for a non Catholic English woman..

Im sorry to hear things didnt work out for you Huegel. Polish mothers do seem to have a strong influence on their childrens relationships.. more so than english in my opinion.

Life / Polish Divorce laws and stigma attached to it [21]

anybody know if its true that if a Polish man seeks a divorce from his Polish wife (and he is the guilty party) that she gets all of his assets without question? (ie) house, car etc... (no children involved). I understand that she should get something, but shouldnt it be half and half?

Love / Foreigners in relationships with Poles - do your in-laws accept you? [66]

I am interested to hear from people in Polish/non Polish relationships about attitudes of their Polish in-laws. Of course every case is different, but I want to know about any problems that you face being accepted by Polish in-laws because of cultural/religious differences, especially if you are already or planning on getting married.

In my own experience.. My partner's family seem to be of the opinion that all English people change relationships frequently and are therefore unlikely to stick around for the longer term. .just wondered if others had encountered similar or other probs?

Love / Illegal Polish girl wants me to marry her for citizenship [124]

I know a Polish guy who married an American woman for a greencard. She wanted to make a real go of it, but for him it was just so he could stay there (she was 15 yrs older than him). He said he didnt pay her, but she helped him out a lot.. whatever that means?? He had lived there for 4 years and built up a successful business, but decided to go to Poland for one weeks holiday (he was still waiting for his green card) to see his children (he was divorced from his 1st wife in Poland) and basically when he came back, they wouldnt let him back in.. that was 18 months ago, and hes still waiting to get back to Florida. Anyway, just thought Id share this with you..

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

In summary I think we welcome people who will integrate and pay their way but there is a finite limit to the population that these small islands can sustain.

I am British and I agree with this. Most educated people welcome migrant workers from all parts and readily accept them as part of the community.. however, with such huge numbers arriving in recent years, many people are worried about the longer-term effects that this might have on our economy/resources. (e.g.) a drain on the already vastly under funded health service. With many people prepared to work for less than the minimum wage, this also has an effect on the job market, both for original Brits and those who came here earlier are not prepared to work for a pittance. Also, its untrue to say that all contribute to the economy by paying taxes as sadly our system is flawed and many people know only too well how to avoid doing so (and I include Brits in that too).

Dont get me wrong, this is not an attack on Polish people or any other immigrants.. it is merely an observation of an attitude that is spreading throughout Britain. Although Im sure some may disagree.

Do you consider yourself to be a comedian?

Yes, I am also a comedian.. why do you ask?.. .

Ok well good luck to you.. I cant be bothered to respond to this anymore..since I dont think you are really serious... and if you are, then have you ever thought that perhaps it could be your English skills that are holding you back, and not your alleged beauty? Just an observation :) ..and no, Im not jealous of your looks.. as I also consider myself to have both brains and beauty.

One of my on-line friend had the story in London, serious employer from serious background start touching her during the interviev and when she said: no, he told her she is not open on communication with him, so.......

im sorry, but if this really happened.. there are many things that she could have done.. including reporting this at the highest level of the company.. or if it was a very small company.. she could have issued a formal complaint for sexual harrassment against them. Anyone who would make a pass at you during a interview for a 'proper job' (ie) not one in the sex industry, would be crazy to even attempt this kind of behaviour as it would seriously risk their job and even their company..Im not saying it doesnt go on, but there are laws there to protect us.. would be interesting to know just what kind of serious employer this was??

well I appreciate what you guys are saying, but any reputable employer would not discrimate against someome for being attractive, as it is against the law...and if they did, would you really want to work for them anyway?

I'm looking for the right people who can appreciate my knowledge, enthusiasm, experience and do not care about appereance.

im not sure what you really mean about not caring about your appearance??? Pretty much all employers do care about appearance (in terms of personal grooming and clothes, not race).... in fact they will judge you on this the moment you step through the door for interview. Obviously, depends upon what type of job you are looking for

Love / Matrix says that POLISH GIRLS= NOTHNIG SPECIAL [279]

That doesn't make them any different from ALL women. They have an insatiable appetite for clothing.

its not true that ALL women love shopping..however, it is certainly not specific to Polish girls.. Im English and according to my bf I have 67 pairs of shoes.. although Ive never counted them myself and am sure its less than that. In case you are wondering.. he has 6.. more than enough for a guy.. no?

Love / having an affair with a Polish man (but he has a wife and a child) [266]

havent been around here for a few weeks so have only just come across this thread... I just wanted to say that some people on here are incredibly judgemental, perhaps based upon their own experiences in life.. but everyone is different and what is right for some is not right for others.. i'm not saying having an affair with a married man is a great thing to do, but sometimes these things happen and it if wasnt her, it would have been someone else.. and I feel Mobile has taken quite a bashing for this. I dont mind admitting that I too am having an affair with a married man (polish).. he left his wife for me and we have been together for 2 years. His wife lives in London and still wants him to go back and his family wont speak to him unless he does... but he chooses to be with me as we are in love. Im not saying this to brag, merely to lend some moral support to someone in a similar situation. So, maybe this guy will leave his wife and maybe he wont, but it takes two to tango.. so dont be laying all the blame on this girl.

So in fact there's no unemplyment at all. There's no rational reasons for the whole "Poles steal our jobs" crap and I've got a feeling that we are way too nice for you.

yes, the minimum wage is £4.50 per hour, but many people work for less than that (illegally of course). Official statistics state that there are 600,000 Poles in the UK but it is more likely to be double that (according to a report in the newspaper yesterday). However, I am not complaining, since I am in love with a Pole, just merely stating that it doesnt matter what nationality you are, but that too many migrants flooding the workplace can cause problems for those that are already here. ...and thanks for noticing that Im foxy :)

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

My friends husband lost his job a couple of weeks ago in this kind of situation...

it is not only English people losing jobs due to the availability of cheaper labour from Eastern Europe. My Polish bf has been in the UK for 5 years and had built up a successful business in painting and decorating.. however since Poland joined the EU and now with the recent influx of Romanians and Bulgarians he is having a hard time finding any work since is is unwilling to work for £50 a day (or less) and there is always someone ready to work for peanuts... however, it is ulitmately the employers who will suffer since if you pay a crap wage, then you must expect to get crap work for it.
