Law / Marriage Procedure in Poland [56]

Exactly. It was very short which is just as well as I wasn't sufficiently warmed up. I can see now why the bride&groom get tanked up the night before. It has its logic :)

News / Does Poland benefit from an Eastern, Western, or individualistic alliedship? [40]

Crow, be honest. Wouldn't the criminal elements of Serbia be hostile to Poles? They are hostile to one another. I don't think they'd feel the love of Poles as they joined NATO and the EU. Can Serbs understand their logic for doing so?

The languages are also different enough for misunderstandings to occur.

News / BNP far right in Poland [116]

There are Poles who would agree with you, Arien. Also, I met with one German recently who dislikes the intolerance aspect of the RCC and also a Czech guy who said the same. It seems like the Poles just don't see what other Europeans see. They are similar in Scotland (Catholic Scots, I mean), they think they are a cut above and they have separate schools as if they were members of some elitist creed.

I hate such clubbing.

maybe this is all hogwash, Greg. I'll let you judge but it hardly supports your case.

Jews are having enough of their own problems with their battle against Zionism. Griffin claimed to have taken the side of Israel in condemning Hamas but my guess is that he would equally condemn the IDF given half a chance.

History / Responsibility for Murder of Catholic Poles during WWII ? [172]

Why should the views of one professor count anyway? He likely just stumbled across the 'Arbeit Macht Frei' slogan and saw more in it than actually existed. Any thinking person knows that it was a grand lie.

Food / Is there any other Polish seafood exept herring and carp? [30]

Salmon is popular enough, trust me. There are those who buy it for prestige too, in any country. Why not just say seafood that is eaten in Poland? They have mussels which are from Sweden and prawns that are from Thailand, for example. The crab sticks are from the Czech Republic.

Poles tend not to like seafood like octopus but it might be worth dropping gentle hints to find out what the eaters like :)

Love / How do Polish men treat their women ? [45]

Well, I know quite a few guys here who treat their women really well. There are many functional couples operating under various constraints and I think that they make a good fist of it. I must pinch myself as a reminder that I encounter more professional people.

Back to the same conclusion. Some treat their women well and some don't.

Life / How do Polish people view themselves? [92]

That's true. We are not here to tell people what's what in their own backyard, especially in a country like America which was nice enough to grant opportunities to foreigners. Sometimes you are only as good as your opportunities made you in life.

Life / How do Polish people view themselves? [92]

I've seen some of the people that say such things and they have complexes. It's a means of carving out an identity in many.

Although I think it's disingenuous to deny the Holocaust, Desiderata teaches us that others too have their position and it'd be interesting to hear the likes of Ahmedinejad attempt to justify his position that it was fabricated.

In all likelihood, he'd not convince anyone but himself.

UK, Ireland / What is good about being in the UK? [140]

What does my fiancee think about the UK? Alaska (said in a thick NYC accent)

The roads are better in the UK, that's for sure.

Love / All Polish girls are like that? If you were her would you do the same? [62]

Sokrates, you are a scream :) One of those goat-loving countries, ROTFL. I only really know Albania that fits the Muslim billing and goat-loving too.

Fair points about religious tolerance. I'm glad my fiancee isn't Catholic. She respects Polish traditions and is a proud Pole for the right reasons. We enter into religious discussions without any real bias and a healthy respect for any rational position.

Such self interest is typical of a fair few Brits. Jack Straw, for example, is a third generation immigrant and thus oversympathises due to personal circumstances. He doesn't see how mass immigration adversely impacts on resources.

Caps are a legitimate and viable option.

It's not a conspiracy theory, lesser. The Vatican has had dealings with radical Islam in the past and likely does in the present.

Ever heard of vicarious liability, lesser? The RCC has sth akin to the political whip system in that its members represent it and their actions speak volumes. There will always be outliers but they have to be kept on the straight and narrow. Many clergymen were in on it, lesser.

Would lesser be surprised that the Vatican is working with radical Islamic groups? He shouldn't be as it's true.

No he isn't, lesser. I know Eichmann and others were whisked off to Argentina under pseudonyms before the Mossad got hold of them. The Vatican has skeletons in the closet and Leo Zagami will tell you about them. The Ustashe (Croatian Nazis) were funded by the Vatican. Ask Crow, I think he'll back me up on that.

Law / Marriage Procedure in Poland [56]

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Seanny :) I'm just glad that I don't have to read it in Chinese, LOL. I'd be on every drug under the sun before attempting it. Wyszłoby dobrze :)

Law / Marriage Procedure in Poland [56]

Thanks! I have as good as memorised it. I just need to feel it in the same way as I would feel it in English, otherwise he will have a double think.

Law / Marriage Procedure in Poland [56]

I think I should have opted for a translator but I only have to remember 4 lines in Polish. Still, I need to get it all right and show that I understand exactly what I am saying. It should be fine, I just need to remain composed.

Language / Accent marks in Polish language [22]

In Silesia, there is a different accent system altogether. For example, standard Polish would be dzięki za informację whereas, in Silesian, it'd be dzięki za informacja. Quite different if you stress the ę.
