USA, Canada / American culture: [85]

I meant frolics in the older sense. Camp fires, singing songs, taking hours to erect huge canvas tents. Have to be careful what you say these days!

UK, Ireland / British taxpayers pay homeless Polish to go home. [184]

This is called 'globalism'...it means that your country, whether the UK, US or Poland will
be flooded with cheap foreign labor via immigration, the end of which will be a collapse
of the middle-class, if your country has one.

Interesting angle. I would have thought the existence of cheap, motivated and hard working labour would have perpetuated the wealth and influence of the middle classes since they tend to be the capital owners. Maybe your concern is that the cheap labour starts to demonstrate their real skill and worth and start to move up the social ladder, earning more, buying property, starting businesses and taking on the middle classes. If so I've got news for you - this has been happening for years in the UK. We have large proportions of residents from all the EU countries. The only difference about the 'Polish Invasion' is the speed of the process compared with the gradual drfit to the UK from other countries. Polish people will not be restricted to menial jobs for too long. Those with the talent, intelligence and skills will do very well very quickly. And soon they will be in all EU countries as the restrictions lift. Some will leave the UK, some will stay and some may return to Poland. This is freedom of labour movement in action. Key message for us is to skill our young people better so that they can compete in a global economy. Instead of worrying about recent immigrants we should worry about our education system.

Travel / need to get to the railway station from warsaw airport [10]

There is an airport bus from Warsaw airport to Warsaw Central Train station but one hour is pushing it. You can get a taxi that, at that time in the evening, should not take more than 20-25 minutes for about 40ZL. The central station is fine if you are just rushing to get a train but it is not the best place to hang around late at night.

One hour is very tight if there is a queue in immigration at the airport.

I'm sure pepole on here who live in Warsaw will give you some better advice.

Travel / Ukraine - A New Destination of Vacation for Poles [27]

I'm pure 100% Ukrainian girl and very proud of this.

And you have every reason to be so. However, your comments on the Polish people just do not bear out my experiences and the way in which you phrase those comments will not endear yourself to the other Forum members.

Demand is a function of price, quality and availability. Product lifecycle and all that. New products can command a premium in the early days. Anyway the original post is lame. She probably works for the Kiev tourist office.

And increased market demand is caused by the cheapness of the product.

Now we get basic economics lesson here too. Is there no end to the usefulness of this Forum? Next week we do the multiplier/accelerator model so keep tuned in folks.

Kiev girls dress more sharply, always nipples slipping out, many girls with extremely short skirts or half covering shorts or even no skirts at all, only T-shirt

Funny. I was there last week and missed all this. Must stop drinking so much, my eyesight is failing!

Life / Is there anything worse than Polish rap? [148]

Is there anything worse than Polish rap?

I'm with Bill Bryson when he says:

"If you can imagine a man having a vasectomy without anesthetic to the sound of frantic sitar-playing, you will have some idea what popular Turkish music is like.”

So yes there is.

USA, Canada / Polonia in USA - Happy 4th of July! [42]

Nothing specific I'm afraid. I guess in my case a lot of it was work stress related. I was in a pretty high position in a big corporation and work started to become too dominant. I opted to bow out and go back to the work that I enjoyed the most and start my own company. The hours were much the same but the enjoyment came back. There were some other factors as well but that was the main one.

Shame - but enjoy your long weekend.

Try reading any work by Salman Rushdie to beat the insomnia. Works every time for me! Being serious I know it is not nice. I went through a spell a few years back.

sorry 'bout dumping all that tea in the harbor!

I forgive you wasting all that luvverly tea. What should have happened of course is that both sides should have sat down over a cup of tea and avoided the fighting bit. We could have reached a sensible compromise and agreed to blame the French.
