Study / Does Poland offer Polish Lessons for Free? [16]

In general, I am against any kind of free language lessons for immigrants. The country accepts a person, allows a new start, offers new opportunities. Isn't that enough?

it's actually not charity: we had quite some difficulties (and still have!) with ppl coming to live in the Netherlands who did not want to integrate -such a Dutch tradition- at all or after being 30 years in our country, still not were able to speak a single word of Dutch. This lead to growing irritation and friction and the situation got so bad that the government decided to try and do something about it. For non-EU ppl who live longer than 5 years (or at least longer than a year, I thought it was) the course is mandatory. If you're not willing to participate, you will kindly be asked to leave. for fellow EU citizens it's fully voluntarily as they are supposed to have the same rights as a Dutchman. Unfortunately the attendency is very well below the expectations, so probably they will come up with a new set of rules. By the way, they will not only learn the Dutch language, also the Dutch history, customs, laws and so on. It's basically a package that will make you ready for the Dutch society, which is good, I think, as it can clear a lot of misunderstandings and the like.

UK, Ireland / The best Polish bars Uk and Republic of Ireland [12]

There's one in Parnell Street, which is a bit of a kip and there is one in Capelstreet, which doubles as a restaurant and seems to be quite good. Both of them are in the city centre of Dublin.

Study / Does Poland offer Polish Lessons for Free? [16]

I didn't realize the offered Polish language lessons for free in Sweden, Germany and UK.

Neither did I. For the Poles in Holland I know there are certain cities who offer free Dutch lessons, though. But I don't know if they offer free Polish lessons.

This is actually part of an integration course which basically is volutarily, but strongly encouraged by the Dutch government. It's free for non-Dutch EU citizens. All others have to pay a small fee, I believe it was 50 Euros, give or take.

USA, Canada / Diffrence between the Usa and Canada [32]

Healthcare is much better in Canada. Social security is at European standards as I understand. Quality of life, I couldn't say as I've only been there once, but my best bet would be that it's a higher quality than in the US. But the US has its advantages too.

Genealogy / May I know if 'Plawsky' is a Polish surname [11]

'Plawsky'

As far as I understood it, it is a Germanized version of a Polish surname: according to some articles I read the Germans tend to change the last "i" in Polish surnames to a "y" for some reason; maybe they found this easier to pronounce, don't know - you never do with Germans anyway :)

Love / TO GO OR NOT TO GO (to visit my Polish boy-friend in Poland) [30]

I hate to say but I totally fell for him

What's there to hate about it? If you're in love, you're in love. Nothing you can do about it. And if he feels the same, why not?

I have to inform you though of that ancient Polish habit of eating the ppl they love.

:)

But seriously, I think you should go. If you love someone, there should be no boundaries or something.

Food / Is there McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc in Poland? Food survey. [222]

A Polish dish made by special pasta. They have pasta squares, cut up bacon and, of course, cabbage. It's all mixed together. They use ziele angielski and liść laurowej. Bay leaves and English pepperballs. It's very tasty, take my word 4 it

How special is that pasta? Would I be able to buy it in one of those Polski Skleps scattered around the city? And: is there any dish where they don't use cabbage? :)

Love / Why Polish girls are awesome? [141]

Well, huge boobs is nothing new here in Dubs - Irish girls seem to have by standard very big whoppers...Good thing that I like big ones :)

Love / Why Polish girls are awesome? [141]

They are awesome for three reasons: first of all, because they are :) secondly, because, like I said in a previous post, here in Dublin, they are a definitive enhancement of the viewscape in clubland and thirdly, they appear to be caring and all :)

Food / Is there McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc in Poland? Food survey. [222]

KFC has very good

I thought these guys tasted the same everywhere in the world...KFC in Holland is really gross and not popular at all. In Ireland it's ****** too, and here in Dublin are, as far as I know only 3 or 4 KFC's whereas McD tastes reasonable and BK is actually good. However, I'm not a big fan of fast food anyway.

Food / Is there McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc in Poland? Food survey. [222]

Thread attached on merging:
Polish Snacks, McDonalds, Burger King et al

Quick question:

I hear that fast-food restaurants are not really popular in Poland. Poland apparently has the least Macs and Burger Kings in Europe. Question is: why is this and where do the Polish youngsters go when they want to have a bite after the dance and drink on a Saturday night?

Life / What is the Drum n Bass scene like in Poland [13]

There is so much variation pssbl in Electronic music. Too bad it is only the Techno that gets the most attention. In fact, Electronic music has the most options to make it the most varying music there is. See, a guitar sounds like a guitar, no matter what you do with it, or a bass or a drumkit for that matter. Witch computers, samplers, etc. you can virtually create every instrument there is and even invent new ones, if it is necessary for the tune you're creating...Just wish more ppl would see this.

Are they liberal

They are liberal, but above all, they want to analyse and -sigh- TALK about things...Why do you feel you want to have sex now? I don't like it when you do that, why do you do it like that; have you never thought of doing it differently?

See what I mean?

M-G

i got more expirance then you

Yeah, but my dad is much stronger than yours!

M-G (let's go)

In addition to my post about Dutch women I would like to say that the current generation and the one before that has been raised with the thought that sex was a normal thing, part of life. Ok, you don't go screwing around like mad, but you don't deter from it. This reflects in the attitude, whereas it seems that British and especially Irish women have been raised with the thought that sex was something of the devil. In Ireland only lately they have thrown off the yoke of the Catholic Church, which has unfortunately the effect that they overdo it, but that's normal, it will smoothen down over time. I always ask them: if sex is something of the devil, how come the average size of families in Ireland is 6 kids? :)

polish women

Most Polish women I dated were basically decent women. After all, I don't respect women who want to shag on the first time you meet. I usually fulfill that wish, but I don't date them afterwards. Most Polish girls are not like that, so I date them more often.

Southern: lol

of course pakistanians

Like said so many times before, I take person per person, but having listened to an Indian guy explaining me how it came that so many wrong cases (=wrong product) came into our flows for over an hour, my head was spinning around and I strongly voted for more, absolutely more non-Indian persons on English lines...

M-G (have you ever done that? Then you know what I am talking about)

know you talking about poles

No. I'm talking about Indian ppl. The Polish ppl I conferenced with have decent English (read: a non-annoying accent). It seems there is no Indian with a voicetone lower than baritone.

M-G

british women

Is there any time in the weekend when British women are not drunk and nearly naked?

:)

But seriously: The Anglo-Saxon world has a problem with sex. The British are probably the most sexually frustrated (post-Victorian, still) ppl in the world. The Irish are just like teenagers discovering that you can do more with your willy than just pee and the Americans, well, they get nearly a stroke when just merely mention the word sex or the word nudity.

bear

Yeah, the price of Teddybears nowadays, it's a crying shame...

But to be serious: the UK, just like Ireland, will experience a tremendous downfall should the majority of the migrant-workers leave for other places. Maybe they will realise then what they miss and be sorry for the way they treated them as there will be no-one left to do the dirty jobs for them, the jobs they didn't want to do themselves.

UK, Ireland / Poles in Ireland, are they second class citizens? [90]

I hope you are not there just for the money, at least at this stage MareGaea? I mean that you have made a life for yourself? I have here in Poland

In some other thread I already stated that I was transferred here by the company I work for. I am from Holland (as is probably wellknown in this forum:) ), a country one could hardly call a poor country. The money I get, however is more than I got for the same job in Holland, but this levels completely with the cost of living here. In fact I created employment for about 75 ppl here, regardless them being Irish, Polish or whatever. I have made a life for myself here and I do like it here: I've met great ppl of all origins. Besides the odd weirdo, that is. And it really depends in which part of the city you are in. The mentioned intercourse to my home country happened mainly in Blanchardstown, an area not known to produce the flower of the nation in general. Funny anecdote: I was talking to this chickadee in a club for over 20 minutes and suddenly she asked me "whereyafrom?" I said that I was from Holland. "Oh," was her response, "so you can't speak English? Do you speak English?" "No", I said to her, "I don't speak a word English, the sounds I make are only phonetic reproductions I hear all around me." Then I started to laugh. She didn't get it, only after explanation she got it...Nah :) But in all, I have made a pretty good life in this town, but in a few years from now I will be moving on to either the US or Canada. Not because I don't like Dublin, but my work at this point: setting up a running contact centre has been done.

Love / CONFUSING FRIENDSHIP? She doesn't want to go to Poland now. [30]

he is a nice guy and has always said she was beautiful and was always intently jealous of her even talking to another man.

Doesn't mean anything, just that he is possessive and insecure when he cannot stand her talking to some other dude. And that he has two sides: the nice guy, but he probably is capable of beating her up when she as much as looks at another guy. Seen it before, you know. I really can't believe you buy the crap he's selling ya. And about the saying she was beautiful, ah well, did you know how many times I said that to a girl just to get laid? See what I mean? And besides that: he cared about his so-called friends enough to deny her, what would that say?

And one more thing: stop putting this all on his friends' account. He himself has a part in it as well...Just because he apologized, doesn't mean he's free of all guilt. It is easier to do and accept, I know, but pls don't forget the core. But like said, you ladies are such suckers for apologies. One apologies and you're all wax in a guy's hand. Until you finally see the light. And I'm a guy. I should know.

M-G (it's not my business and if she is happy, she's happy, but too many red flags here - and just giving some advise as I would hate to see anybody unhappy about some loser)

UK, Ireland / Do Polish immigrants wish to stay in UK - long term? [92]

It's a Brave New World, baby, only too bad that some don't weather change that good.

Glim: I noticed that, especially in the UK, where it is worse, much worse than in Ireland, the emphasis of the discussion about immigration lies more on it being bad for economy or they highlight the bad apples, than where it actually should be: the exploitation of foreign workers, the racism of the "100 per cent British" and the fact that those foreign workers who "come to steal our jobs, rape our women" and more of the crap you hear, while in fact they do the jobs the "true British" refuse to do.

Love / CONFUSING FRIENDSHIP? She doesn't want to go to Poland now. [30]

I am happy for your friend, but I can't help thinking of that old Dutch proverb: A child's hand is filled easily. So, he said to his friends that he does not consider her as a friend at all...How exactly does this relate to his private life? What intrusion to his private life does it mean to tell your friends -who are part of your private life as well- that you've befriended some girl? And now it's the very bad buddies? If they are so bad, why does he hang out with them at all? I for certainly wouldn't. And I wouldn't call them 'friends' as well... But you ladies are basically a sucker for apologies (I know from experience, it always works:) ). A guy basically denies your very existance and then comes back because he wants to screw or something and tells a nice story of how his evil friends made him do it and that he is oh-so sorry about it. I'm sorry that I am being pessimistic here, but I developed a six sence for bs. And this guys is performing bs. And since when is the opinion of friends important? If I like/love a person I really couldn't give a darn what my friends think of her...I'm sorry girl, but in my opinion you shouldn't buy it. Whatever his reasons may be (maybe he doesn't want to lose the money or so), I would think twice. If he has trouble accepting you in front of his friends, he always will. Ppl can change, but not to the very core of their existence and this behaviour is part of this core. Think of it.

M-G (is not pessimistic, just seen too much shyte going on)

News / Poland adopting the Euro, but when? [65]

it took some years to reach that mark, but still that would be far to quick to get through as inflation rate

Oh, but it is true and not only in Germany. In Holland they did the same: 1 Euro = about 2.2 Dutch Florins but the week and month after the introduction everything that was priced for example 5 Guilders (Florins) before was now 4 or 5 Euros, just about twice as much. And indeed, things that cost 1 Florin before, since then cost 1 Euro. Ppl lost a lot of money due to the change. Especially the hospitality sector abused the currency change.

And Lukasz, Poland may be the best (according to a Polish source - I just wonder how subjective that will be), but Slowakia is the first to adopt the Euro from all these countries, as fas as I know.

M-G (so very true)
