History / Could the truth "The Kremlin Fesses Up" at last be out? [21]

The Kremlin Fesses Up (a Bit)

Joseph Stalin never had any problem finding willing executioners. Everyone from his Politburo colleagues to the secret-police rank and file dutifully carried out his wishes during the Great Terror of 1937-38, when approximately 700,000 people were shot in assembly-line executions.

USA, Canada / 2008 U.S. Presidential Election according to Polish and foreign people [90]

Clearly I need to learn more and it's not easy to find out who, what where on "Obama". My question's have more to do with who at this point, not that it would matter if he was Muslin, rather is he a truthful person?

Was Barack Obama a Muslim?

[FPM title: "Obama and Islam"]

"If I were a Muslim I would let you know," Barack Obama has said, and I believe him. In fact, he is a practicing Christian, a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ. He is not now a Muslim.

But was he ever a Muslim or seen by others as a Muslim? More precisely, might Muslims consider him a murtadd (apostate), that is, a Muslim who converted to another religion and, therefore, someone whose blood may be shed?

News / Polish soldiers and the legacy of Depleted Uranium. [30]

This cannot be good.

Russia and Iran reached an agreement earlier this month that paved the way for the delivery of nuclear fuel.

The United States and some other Western countries have been alleged that Iran may try to develop atomic bombs under a civilian cover.

Iran has denied all the charges, saying it's nuclear program was just aimed at generating electricity and would never abandon its legal rights.

Russian Foreign Ministry, however, has promised that those fuel will be under control of the IAEA.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Still, it is not related to Stalin as a "great leader of Russia discussion" above

I find a leader accoutable for all actions , not just the ones that are choosen. That would be like priding =Pres. Bush on just Afganastan and leaving Iraq out of the history. Stalin had potential to be a great hero, as does Pres. Bush... It should be truthful history that determines this not what makes their country most proud. IMO Russia should tell the full nasty truth in the "New state textbooks" and by now changing the record and playing down the treatment surrounding the atroicites is another slap in the face. Personally , I feel Pres. Putin's pushing this type of slander is nothing short as disrespectful slander.

Now I repeat, history between Poland and Russia will never start until Russia and the leaders show remorse vs. glorifying this past that has millions of victims. Pain from my grandmother, aunts, uncles still hurts today. As does the behavior "Stalin" ordered for my loved ones in Poland. How do we accept Pres. Putin as a respected leader when he shows such disrespect for our people? How many unarmed military were shot in the head?

If we we talking about him as a great communist leader than it would be a different talk.

Lets see Pres. Putin did not break down his hero, maybe his history books will tell he killed his own and Russian also slaved and died for his Utopia. Time Magazine reports that "New state textbooks (in Russia) hail Stalin as 'the most successful Russian leader ever'." Soviet atrocities against the Polish nation, only admitted by the Soviets in

the Gorbachev era, are once again at risk of being denied, minimized or stricken from the record.

As long as you stay slightly behind me and to my left I dont mind

LOL my rights open,Isthatu.

Russians were "Polish" citizens as welll

That's like saying my father is Ukrainian because it's now Ukraine,no, he's born of Polish reguardless, correct? After all it was Poland was he was born.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Here is some information on Stalin.
Through the extermination and the persecution of millions of people, the Soviet government attempted to conceal its crimes. Who knows exactly how many victims of terror there were? Where were the executed buried? Where were the countless camps and what transpired behind the barbed wire? Even the relatives of the deceased do not know the truth: "10 years without the right to correspondence" - this was the only information given about the fate of the convict under Stalinism, the short formula of his life and death.

He was never a great leader.

They found out that Stalin has deceived them about the power

Stalin attacked "Polish unarmed military" and still tied their hands, then had them shot in the head. Having them out of the way he went after the "unarmed Polish military reserve" more unarmed, living as farmers, sleeping with families in the night. Here they were killed or put on cattle cars to join his slaves in Siberia. Look into history of how many people this, "great hero" killed. He was no differant than Hitler. Unless you find honor in shooting the unarmed.

bla-bla-bla

when Gorbachyov and others said they are sorry for occupying others bla-bla-bla. Putin has also noted, that he is not going to say sorry to every country who wants it every year, and once is enough.

Stalin was a killer that even killed his own. This is sick that you do not know how many lives Stalin took and the price paid for his country. "bla-bla-bla" how insensitive and crude.

Stalin was a great leader

Stalin was a sick puppy that didn't even care about his own family as they also where killed on his orders.

do it with Russia and open new chapter in our history.

I stand by my prior post, "Russia must step up and make amends for past with Poland". Many people lost their country ,loved ones, land. Military were killed and others slaved. I could care less how Russia decides to run their little piece of the earth. In order to be considered part of the ones that can move forward, the past must be dealt with. I for one wait for the day when Russia's President stands up and can say, "We are sorry this happened to your family." Until this day I will not believe that they are truly sorry. Just last week I read of President Putin trying to push a history book whereas “Stalin is a great hero”. Historical amnesia

Putin heralds teachers' manual glorifying Stalin as great leader

Calgary Herald

It's generally best for historical figures who are vilified by the evidence of history to stay that way.
There is usually good reason for their infamy and to rehabilitate them is to forget the painful lessons their brutality taught the world in the first place. Unfortunately, such arguments cut no ice in the provocative and fervidly nationalist Russia of President Vladimir Putin.

How sorry can Russia really be? Stalin was not an innocent leader, blood stained his hands to build his empire.

History / Should Germany claim to be the victims in Poland? [510]

What is weird to me is how unaware most American people are to how Poland fared during and after the war, and how much pain, dislocation and suffering occurred for Poles

It's not just America, ask the youth in Poland and I find this lack of history. Communist Poland made sure no one talked. For the most past the nation was hearing the Jewish about "Holocaust". Polish survivors of camps even in the USA still hold inside the horrors and fear the pain of thinking back. I often wondered if it was a Polish pride that make them suffered in silence?

Within the artical:

Critics argue that the exhibition is an attempt to re-write history, claiming that Germans are portrayed mostly as victims and the role of the Nazi regime is overlooked.

"We think that the struggle against totalitarianism, Nazism and Communism, and the resistance movements, were the most important parts of 20th Century history. The expulsion, especially of Germans, was only a consequence of that," said Slawomir Tryc from the Polish embassy in Berlin

To not feel sympathy for their human suffering but to feel all gooey about someone elses just seems dammed hypocritical to me.

But who decided to move the Germans and give this to Poland? If I recall Poland was not included in this pow wow, right? Carol

Greater numbers died

This is not true. I will get the #'s for you. It is because Jewish stuck together and are known to be loud and speak up. Remember, they were not in Poland under communist control and could speak. They just forgot to mention others. Carol

There was a polish Holocaust

Yes, Thank you. My family died also and I will be equal to Jewish not below. Hitler said, "Poland" not Jewish.

The Germans will laugh under their moustaches.

So be it.

''There was no jewish Holocaust.

It was not just Jewish, divide and concure. In the name of God. My Black book of Poland listing is not just "Jewish" it was Polands, doctors, teachers, artists, scientist anyone that showed intellagence. Then they used Jewish to divide and turn religion into a tool. But Hitler clearly said it was to be all Polish.

Yes,he leaves a lot out though(Poles will know what ...)

I think a big part of Polands reaction to this is due to most of the talk of what happened the Jewish "Holocaust" were the victims. When will the world see it was "Poland" that paid the price. Not Jewish, Germany, Russia or Ukraine. I guess because they left the name Poland behind Communist it's not seen as clear as it was. No Poland did not loose a small piece they lost their country.

How is taking the planes out lame?

It is the inside job I refer to as lame. Believe me the USA citizens know there are others that hate us. Just the fact that we are free turns some into killers, not able to stand the though of losing control over people that they have under their thumbs.

That twat Dick Cheney doesn't have dick in his name for no reason u know.

Now here I aggree, this"twat" has an ability to bs and sound like he is thinking on the best intrest of the people. I feel his actions are done in such a manner that his face is never shown and attatched to the actions.

America hater?

I must aggree with freebird on this one, it's amazing how backs have turned after the shock of Sept. 11. You give one person "Bush" the responsability of Sept. 11th yet the ones that were there would have to dispute this. Opps, they can't as they are dead. Have you listened to the phone conversation of the ones that got to say goodbye before trying to fight for their lives. All the arguments over this are lame, like, USA could have taken the planes out. Ya, I bet they could have, but Bush in an elementray class (visiting US school children when 1st plane crashed) wishes today he had.

Relations between Berlin and Warsaw are strained, and given the reaction to this exhibition from the Polish government, it is likely to deepen the mistrust between the neighbouring countries.

Even before it opened its doors, the exhibition "Forced Paths" attracted a lot of controversy in the German and Polish media.

USA has got to do something. I am in the "Insurance capital" and you wouldn't know it. What mess's up alot of people is Husky for people that can't afford insurance. Husky olny pays set amounts so the bills get off set onto the ones without insurance or the ones that don't have any.

News / Claims for compensation deadline Dec. 2008 Kresy property. [15]

A few key points:
- The law is based on post-war agreements between the governments of Poland and the USSR; - Applications can be made by original owners or by their heirs (as long as they are Polish citizens); - Polish law means that all descendants of Polish Citizens automatically have Polish citizenship too, but they do need to apply for documents;

- Applications can be lodged in Poland or in Polish Consular offices (Embassies, Consulates) in other countries; - Document originals or archive copies are required,
but where these are missing, 2 (unrelated) witnesses who lived in or near the
original places can make sworn statements instead;- Value will be paid of 20% of current property values, established by comparison with similar Polish land; - We have until December 2008 (not very far away) to lodge applications.

This process may not be easy and the returns will probably be more symbolic (the principle of the thing) than financial.
Sorry if you can't open it is the 8 pages from Poland Goverment. I will try to get it for you by printing and copy the file.

This is the 1944 aggreement for compensation to property owners that were deported from eastern Poland. Today a deadline of Dec. 2008 is set to get claims in, proof of ownership and forced removal. Russia removed us and had no say when the land was split. Why are they the ones to pay the price once more?

USA, Canada / Americans who call themselves Polish - how do you feel about that? [112]

I think its more frustration then anything, language barriers pose a
problem with everyone..

I was told to call in the evening as younger family are more apt to be home and more apt to speak english. After so many years of searching I never thought I would be so scared of being rejected. Or calling and having them just hang up. It's just a matter of time before I call because I need to know who they are. In the USA our family is so close, yet out of respect to step mother, no one said anything about my grandmother.
