Can I use my American Express card in Poland?

In my experience the ourageous merchnat fees that Amex were charging meant that less and less merchants were accepting it. Much better with Visa/Mastercard.

As Krysia said watch the taxis. Try to agree a price in advance. In Warsaw, at least, avoid the taxis parked in ranks on the main streets and call one of the main cab firms instead (it's easy when you know how). The ones on the streets are oftern controlled by 'them'.

Take it easy at first Dec. I have a planned reintroduction to the gym. So far I've got to stage a - purchase membership. Next week I intend to move to stage b) visit gym for a tour followed by a beer at the bar. Future stages will be planned based upon the feedback from stage b.

Most of the agents (Thomas Cook) etc will have ZL You may get a better rate in PL though. Avoid changing the cash at the airport though, rates tend to be worse on average.

Could be a predictive dialler. Calls to see you're in before putting you in a queue for an operator to sell you double glazing, viagra or three weeks in Disneyworld! Unlikley to be from a mobile number thinking about it though.

Yep, you'll pay more for an international text message. There are a number of firms offering PC to mobile SMS facilities but they usually charge you for a 'bundle' of texts.

yes just send the SMS to +48 followd by he polish mobile number including the 3 digit company ID - 601 for example

There is no single source of reverse look up from number to person. Also if the mobile is pre-pay thet phone company most likely does not know the consumer anyway. You're going to have to call the number

Another good site is hotelspoland.com which has some good deals usually, including short term apartmenst as well as hotels. It's the one I always use. Only problem is that you have to have about seven days notice.
