UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

It probably is considered rude if one person was in conversation with you at the time. However, I know that I am guilty launching into English at 100 MPH in a Scottish accent whilst Polish friends are present. Sometimes it's just natural to slip into your own "tongue".

News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

Ireland has never really been a poor country!

This suggests you meant overall, not just recently!

Language / Expressing years in Polish [20]

Yes, is there a specific reason for adding "r" at the end? Does it matter if it's not there when writing in Polish?

There are other threads about dates. If it helps.

:) I know. I just didn't think about this "r" thing until I saw it here :)

Language / Expressing years in Polish [20]

English 2007

Polish 2007r

Why do you put the "r" at the end? I know it stands for "rok" but is it necessary to have it after the 2007 (or any year)?

Life / Media Markt in Wroclaw - returning merchandise [8]

If you've ever been to a country with good customer service you'll find that that shops immediately offer a replacement item when you return faulty goods.

You've never had the arguments I've had in UK shops regarding returning faulty mobile phones then...even with insurance and receipts...

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

Where is the answers now?

This might be the kind of abruptness that's causing a problem.

All i want to know is how to friendly intergrate these ladies fro your culture into ours without being laughed at?!

I ponder over these posts that claim the Polish are hostile towards people etc. I have met a lot of Polish people, particularly over the past couple of years and I can safely say there has only been person who I haven't got on with. We never fell out, we just don't get on - simple. My general attitude is that I just chat with anyone. I don't group people when I look at them. I do tend to wonder to myself what it might be like to leave the country I was born in, to live in a totally strange country, surrounded by strangers. I think the first people I would head for would be fellow countrymen. And if I was getting negative vibes from the natives of my new country, I dunno that I would be too keen on mingling.

UK, Ireland / Stop the Polish from entering the UK (yet another thread) [192]

British have had enough!

Don't put forward your opinion as that of the entire British nation. If you have an opinion, put it forward as your own. There are many Brits, like myself, who have made great pals among the Polish community and I hope to make more.

The fact is you Polish are nolonger welcome here in the UK and you will see many more english looking at you with hateful eyes as soon as you open your mouths.

It's people like you that give Britain a bad name.

Feedback / My Thoughts on this Forum and Moderators [71]

Either way using the other forum as a scape goat isn't going to work :)

I think the basic point was that other forums have Off Topic problems as well.

if it comes out of the mods.. yeah, prety much.

Oh well.

Some of my cousins, some of my nicer neighbours and many of my friends would fare much more badly.

This is my point. Not a person in Britain can claim to be 100% British. They can feel it, but their heritage would prove otherwise.

Life / WHY POLISH PEOPLE DON'T USE THEIR NATIVE FIRST NAME WHEN ABROAD? [136]

I'm just about leaving to meet my american friend for dinner. She addresses me with my assumed name, not having a clue about spelling my real name.... And, we are friends for about 8 years or so... :)

ok, I get this. However, when someone Polish introduces themselves to me with an English sounding name now, I usually ask them what their proper name is.

OK, try this.

Lets send everyone in Britain who is an immigrant or descended from immigrants home.

The entire country would have to pack up and leave.

Brits are a mixed race. Like it or not.

Life / WHY POLISH PEOPLE DON'T USE THEIR NATIVE FIRST NAME WHEN ABROAD? [136]

I am Przemysława Wilczykowska or Franciszka Szczebrzeszyńska

I'd rather be Przemyslawa Wilczykowska any day :)

I agree that a lot of names are hard to pronounce but I think it's only common courtesy to learn those names and pronounce them, after all, my Polish friends can pronounce my full name well. I struggle with a lot of Polish names (surnames specifically) but I do make an effort to learn them.
