Life / Where to get a cup of coffee in Warsaw? [40]

well to continue this topic as sidetracked as it is... coffee and cigarettes go together as beer does as well. That said I am a nonsmoker and seem to be alergic to the smoke. It is illegal to smoke in Warsaw at the bus/tram stops yet people smoke directly under the signs. So that being the case I cant see the police actually enforcing any smoking ban. I believe we discussed this topic in an earlier thread. As far as cafes are concerned they seem to be a large part of the upper middle class and upper class culture in Warsaw but not a part of the neighborhood environment. People go out for coffee not to a local shop. There is a nice place in my neighborhood just next to my flat that never has business and is closing. So maybe its just a cultural difference. As far as Starbucks expanding into Poland I have heard this as well but considering they had to close so many shops in the USA recently we will see. And yes their coffee sucks.

Life / Where to get a cup of coffee in Warsaw? [40]

there are loads of coffee shops/cafes in warsaw. I dont know about Mokotow but in centrum and by the Warsaw University you can just pick one. True it is expensive especially considering you can get a full stomach for less than 10zl and a cup of coffee will run you at least 8.

USA, Canada / Senate Approves $838 Billion Economic Recovery Package [9]

I read somewhere that the final bill for all govt spending to save the country from this crisis will total 9 trillion dollars. Thats a lot of greenbacks. Truthfully, I hope this money goes to help the people and not big business.

News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

This is a terrible act for sure. Polish FM vows to hunt down Taliban killers of hostage.

Thats some big talk, however. I cant actually see Polish troops actively hunting for these guys in Pakistan...

I wonder why there were/are more troops in Iraq than in Afghanistan.

they dont have any oil in Afghanistan that I am aware of. As far as the drug trafficking, the USA military does not have a clean history concerning heroin trafficking if one inspects their actions in the Vietnam War...

History / Who Was Really Behind the Shooting of John Paul II? [21]

from what I have been told by the Polish they believe it was the Soviets because the Pope had written a letter requesting a visit to Moscow and this was their response to the letter as well as his statements concerning the independence of Poland from the Soviets.

Love / Help! I just don't understand him.. [36]

There's no such thing as friendship between a man and a woman

that is so untrue. although in your case maybe it is true. however in the real world it does exist among normal functioning people

USA, Canada / How to marry an American women? [24]

I dont know for sure but when you apply for legal immigrant status after marriage surely they will check your current status. that being illegal then I would think you would have a problem...

Work / Teaching English in Lublin. [23]

I would try a private language school that has corporate clients. Most of the classes are before work of after work. But I have no idea if these type of schools exist in Lublin. Otherwise, I would advertise in a local paper. You can teach at your flat, their flat, or even a cafe. It depends on the student. I have experience with all three. Cafes can be difficult due to noise or just uncontrollable conditions. Luckily I have a fancy one next to my flat that no one goes to... As far as rates you can do a search here we just had a discussion on this topic recently.

Work / gday everyone - i'd love to come to Poland to teach English, but... [15]

For the most part in WaWa I charge 70/hour for private and make 56/hour through my school. For students and people who aren't directors I charge 50/hour for private. But with the zl going down I am thinking about upping my rates. After all I am an imported good... Some people charge much higher than me. I met one teacher of Polish who wanted to charge me 50/hour.

Love / did i push him away [36]

Yes at the minimum he owes you child support. Doesnt seem like much of a man if he doesnt even have anything to do with you or his child. After all it took two to make it.
