Hi,
I was wondering if ANYONE could tell me of a animal rescue shelter in warsaw. We have discovered a bird on our balcony that seems unable to fly off and needs help.

It's actually an Owl and gets very distressed if you approach it.
Please let me know ASAP if there are any place I could call to help with this.
Thank you!!

Call the City Guard. Their responsibility includes injuried and lost animals. At least in Warsaw they usually have an English language speaker available on the phone.

We had a swan once, who landed on our narrow patio (ground floor) and could not take off. Was hissing, spitting and trying to bite when we approached him. After contacting my friend who fosters injured animals, he advised us to throw a sheet/blanket over the bird so he can't see what's happening, then grab it and set it outside the balcony. It worked like a charm! And what a sight it was to see him fly off and join his mate on the pond, who was in distress herself, honking and calling for him...

Don't know if you can apply this in your situation, but I wish you (and the owl) good luck!

Thank you guys...the Owl is wxtreamly jumpy...gets into a panic even if it senses movement inside the room...so I dont know how it would take to the blanket. We are planning on placing a cardboard box and lining it with paper and towel to give it warmth...

Also have made contact with the Animal Shelter hopefully they can come today

Harry would you happen to have the number for City Guard? Will also try them just incase.

Fingers crossed...

Put it in a cardboard box or pet-travel carrier thingy and take it to the zoo.

I would suggest Kampinos Park headquarters or SGGW (the university).

Actually someone in my husband's office had made the contact, since they spoke Polish, I will try and see if I can get the number from her next week.
