I used love mak when I was growing up. My aunt grew it for home use to use in cakes, pastries, bread etc. I poured it straight in my mouth from the ripe cones until she told me not to eat too much because I'll get a headache... I don't remember feeling anything 'funny" after a few cones, so i don't know how much it takes to feel any effects.

Anyway, drugs are for losers. I tried some variety of 'grass' when i came here, but it didn't do much for me. I enjoy a couple of beers much better, a 'drug' of choice for me. lol.

I don't know about the "communist' idea of name days. Name days are for the Saint you were named after (see, religious reason, not communist). So, I'm not sure who spoiled your information frd. Birthdays were always acknowledged but not celebrated.

Yes, name days were for big parties, flowers mostly (instead of gifts) and yes, drinking plus lots of good home made food. Even young people mention their name day more often than their birthday, so I hear.

And... no, praying was never a part of name day party, no matter who the saint was you were named after... :)

Actually, I have not been to White Castle for a decade or so. That used to be my 3 a.m. stop for food after spending a night at a dancing club and a few beers. lol. Those were the days! :) Luckily, i grew up.

You see, the additives make the food taste REALLY tasty so you can't stop eating! :)
Actually, there is some science put into it. Something as simple as potato chips - it has some scientifically engineered ingredients so you can not have just one. The "additive" makes you crave more, you keep on eating. It is applied to lots of processed foods.

They are not necessarily "bad", they have all the vitamins and minerals, but..you tend to get too much of a good thing.

A lot of people go for convenience. It is much easier to pick up a dinner on the way from work than come home and start from scratch. Some do it because they hate cooking, some because they have no clue about cooking. It is more convenient to sit in front of a TV with a big sandwich, pizza or boxes of Chinese than spent the time in the kitchen.

A lot of people have beautiful kitchens, never used or hardly ever.

Americans buy ready made food because they actually can afford it. Restaurants, diners or even fast food anywhere in Europe is pretty expensive comparing to earnings, hence you've got to cook. Americans don't. Let somebody else do the cooking and do the dishes.

The abundance of all you can eat buffet style restaurants does not help the problem with obesity. People tend to eat waaaay too much, often because it's cheap, it is lots of it and it is on just about every corner.

The result: people got fat. This is not only American problem, but it is a problem for the entire western world. Poland is starting to see the "benefits" of it already.

So, it's time educate the the public about eating right and get moving. The government is seeking for ways to generate revenue. Tax the burgers as much as the cigarettes, alcohol and gas. Don't' forget to tax the 32oz coke either!

My coworker and her family just came back from Costa Rica. They adored them there. They did not feel no liked at all.
I think the 'dislike' is more pronounced in Europe. Out of jealousy maybe?

The variety of topics and what is in people's head when they post is abound here.
Besides some poster's who really work hard to insult, to show off or simply to relief their frustrations (unless it's the fun to read abuse thread!) - everybody is fun, witty and friendly, just sharing their thoughts as they come... it makes is look like a conversation.

I don't seem to have as much time now to stick around longer or more often, but I like the PF place. I did learn a few things here as well as I had a plenty of good laughs! Hope for more. :-) especially late at night, before going to bed.
