UK, Ireland / POLISH RECRUITMENT AGENCIES IN LONDON??? [11]

polish people can find work anywhere and they are not limited to only specific Polish agencies but people need to beware as they can be exploited. We have had a Polish man working with us for six weeks and his English is very poor. He was telling me that the agency has not paid him for a couple of weeks when he was working in June! He is still waiting now and has to go back to the agency with his son who speaks good English to try and sort things out. He drives to work using his own car and takes other members of the agency with him to work. He was promised petrol money in lue and it has been invariably unpaid, so watch out where you work and for whom. You need to get your hours written down and keep a copy of all your transaction as after a couple of months it is difficult to remember what and where you were working.

Love / Racism and Religion in Polish relationships [209]

Menopause may be the cause.

It is partly a medical cause and I think that it is also a poisening of the soul. As these Polish women see the better things in life they begin to expect everything the same themselves. I remember I worked with someone not so long ago who married a Moldovian girl. At first they would argue about little funny things like, 'should we have white or brown rice for supper' but as time went on it was 'we live in a flat but your friends have a house. Why do we not have a house too?' and 'our car is ten years old yet your friends have an almost new car, why don't we' and so on.

?What would be the difficulties when living with somebody with difference ethnic or religion in

Are you thinking of living with a Polish person in Poland or in England? There is a great difference. Polish women change a lot as they grow older so you must beware of these biological changes. Women can be nasty, especially once they hot forty!

Life / POLISH SNOBS [16]

Yes, that is true but it seems to be magnified in the Polish as they are not used to money and the bad effects that this can bring. Economic power has to be earned and understood through a few generations but the Polish always want everything now and the Poles show no interest as to how they come to a final economic destination. They are easily corrupted.

Life / POLISH SNOBS [16]

I think that with time the Poles in England do become very snobbish indeed. I know of Polish people who were very proud of their Polish ancestry but who now hide it even removing the PL signs from the back of their cars! Class is an interesting subject but it is interesting to note especially among the Poles how Communism would never work in practice. The middle class Poles in England fall in to two distinct bands, those who will refuse to speak anything but English and put on funny pretentious English accents and those who demand that Polish is spoken at home at all times. I do not know which breed I hate the more! As the Poles accumulate wealth and their aspirations grow they start to cut themselves off from other peer groupings and will start to mix with similar educated and religious groups, they use the church and other symbolic opportunities of expessing this new found cultural identity. Expensive cars, good schools for their bloody little offspring, and cultural events where only the same types are invited all lead to a new form of class war.

Language / Accusative and Genitive Case in Polish [6]

Piotr, is a name and is therefore a personal noun in the nominative case so as an example, ja znam Piotra-I know Piotr. The genitive case may be ownership such as ksiazka Piotra-Piotr's book, or the genitive case may be formed with use of pronouns such as 'z' and 'od', both meaning from and in both these cases the noun takes the genitive case. Ja dostalem ten prezent od Piotra-I got this present from Piotr.

Life / My neighbours in Poland are stealing all my things [180]

This Pole has only been living in England for less than a year but the point is, is that we were talking about life during rations, not now today in Poland, maybe twenty five years ago?

I too have experiences of Eastern Europe and the story about Polish paint was not my 'idea' as such, a first generation Pole told me this himself. Telling the truth is not the same thing as bad propaganda.

Language / Expressing years in Polish [20]

Yes, as an example, if I was to say that I was born in 1955, I would write in Polish, 'urodzilem sie, w tysianc dziewiecset piecdziesatym piatym roku'.

In 2001 I have not a clue, but I suppose something like w dwa tysiace pierwszym roku or something similar.

it happened in 1984
... until 2012

To sie stalo w tysiac dziewiecset osiemdziesatym czwartym roku.
until, I suppose would be do dwa tysiance dwunastego roku. I do not think that the dwa tysiance is declined but I am not too sure.

Work / Opportunity as a Graphic Designer in Poland? [3]

s a Graphic design in Poland, howev

I am not sure about graphic design but I do know that Poland is very famous for art work in general. I remember when I was in Krakow many years ago and I met a Scotsman who was attending a summer school programme in krakow as, unknown to me at the time, Poland is, or was at least famous for poster production of all things! I suppose that these things all depend on connections and contacts. If unemployment is high, they will prefer Polish native speakers to fill those jobs first, especially as so many are leaving to find work themselves overseas. A knowledge of polish must help too, of course.

Language / I know Russian language - will it help me learn Polish? [105]

I like the way it is now MY language, of course, you have not worked, lived or studied overseas just like the rest of us, have you? No, of course not, you bought a phrase book and red it during a rainy afternoon last week! You must think that I am totally daft!

But dont you even start talking about polish education.

I am aware of the Polish Education system, my wife's brother and his wife are both retired teachers and their son, who is a very cleaver young chap, is now an undergraduate at Jagiellonski (is the spelling right?!) University in Krakow at this very moment in time studying land surveying amongst other things.

Russians should learn English and Polish anyway then no one need bother learning Russian lol.

The Russian Language is the gateway to learning so many other Eastern European languages.

ight have merely pretended not to understand/speak/ Russian as a kind of "knee-jerk" reaction or resentment that may still persist.

No, I think it has more to do with the level of general education in Poland.

Life / My neighbours in Poland are stealing all my things [180]

Yes, very!

So Polish people please advise me...What do i do about these bandits , to

The trouble is, that almost all Poles are bandits. I was actually at work yesterday and we have a Pole working with us for a while who came from Wroclaw. We got talking and one thing led to another and we started to talk about the old days in Poland, the shortages and the ration cards. He was in the Polish Army and there were carriage loads of pain in tins all destined for Moscow. Why did the Russians need all these tins of paint in Moscow of all places? He opened some of the tins of 'paint' to look inside. All the tins of pain were filled with fine quality meat, all the meat that was meant for Polish shops and the indiginus Polish community. The Poles starved with ration cards to even buy sugar and the meat was sneaked out of the country disguised as paint in train wagons to the U.S.S.R.!

Language / I know Russian language - will it help me learn Polish? [105]

'Kazdy Polak rozumie jezyk rosyjski, ale NIKT nie to mowi.' = ('.

No, that is simply not true. Just like French is leant in English schools hardly anybody can speak French on the street so too it is with Russian in Poland. I tried to speak Russian in Poland years ago and they 9the Poles) were very helpful but it was pointless trying to get them to understand anything.

think we should give michal a break, he sounds like some alcoholic tramp whos been

How really rude! I do not drink alcohol EVER, even at Christmas, and I have not smoked for nineteen years.

Have you seen his posts? When does he ever get anything right? ;)

I was right about my son's name, so I got that right. I do not live in Poland like some unfortunate people so that is already the second thing I got right and of course, the third thing is that I am not some TESOL teacher working in Poland for a hundred pounds a month1 Please do not be so patronizing again.

Never. OK, maybe 1/2%. Otherwise - ALL TRASH.

I have already told you-do something more worthwhile with your life, visit Kielc again!

Language / Dziewczyna i koń.... Dziewczynka i pies [22]

nce in the polish spelling of girl and girlfriend. T

Yes, there is obviously a great difference between the word girl and if you want to be more specific about a relationship situation as you could use the word partnerka (a partner) or the Polish word przyjaciolka, which has a similar meaning to girl friend.

News / Racist attack against Poles via Polish language [30]

wanting to do things Mike.

Yes, I understand that and it is a challenge but on the other hand, it is not worth wasting huge amounts of time and energy on something which will pay out zero dividends.

News / Racist attack against Poles via Polish language [30]

the Polish language is the most beautiful language in the world I am learning Polish hope to speak it well. too

To be honest though, it is a waste of time as it is a minority language and is already in the throws of dying out now. The levels of emigration are so high that Poland is now devoid of a youth culture and no society can survive for very long. I was in Radom some time ago, and I was told how quiet the streets are now, even on a Saturday-literally everyone who could had left the country and I very much doubt if any will return. One reason why I would not live there, after all, if millions are leaving each year, giving up jobs running building firms ect. to work in a hospital as a cleaner for £5 per hour and offered a roof over their heads, there must be something seriously wrong with the place!

Life / My neighbours in Poland are stealing all my things [180]

He is definitely not English, his spelling is American English.

I can not understand it. I can not say anything at all without criticism. If I make a spelling mistake, 'all hell lets loose' and then you get young fist generation Polish people spelling things like godzina usma, powiem puzniej and ja prubuje the general education on this forum is excellent is it not?

irst I saw it trhrough rosy coloured glasses and I defended the place vigourously against my colleagues

I think that is natural and as the expression goes 'the grass is always greener on the other side' I do not know the Polish expression off hand but something similar, 'zawsze jest lepsze gzdie nas nie ma' or words to that effect, anyway. I am sure a Polish woman will soon run to my aid and correct me! There are some good people in Poland but they are more likely to keep themselves to themselves and you will only meet them through connections. As in England, I tend to prefer members of the older generation, they seem to be more together, modest and approachable, unlike a lot of cocky young members from Poland on this forum! Poland still has a long way to go in order to grow up and their mentality is what lets themselves down. People in Poland behave in an idiotic manner and until they learn from their past mistakes there is little to help them as they can not even help themselves. I drove to the border with the Czech Republic not so very long ago and I had just missed a funeral. An old man was ploughing a field and he had his grand son riding on the mudguard! The son fell off and went under the wheel and you can imagine how big and heavy a tractor wheel is! When the grand father saw what had happened and that he had successfully killed his own grand son, he fell down dead himself from the shock! The point of this story is, would a German, Dutch, Swedish or British farmer trained in common sense and work ethics allow a five year old son to sit on a mud guard of a tractor? In Poland everything is possible as I have said before, life has no meaning whatsoever to the Poles.

Travel / Skansen-Open Air Museums in Poland [5]

Skansen is an open air museum and the word comes from Sweden where the first such museums were established.
