Language / Duzy / wielki - synonyms? [44]

Duzy is the Polish word and wielki is the stolen Russian word! It is not simply perseption at all as they are used differently. We talk of duzo czegos i.e. duzo mleka, duzo czasu whereas wielki is used as a straight adjective only.

Well, Poland did a magnificant job of protecting World peace in 1939! Thanks to Russian courage and American money maybe? But thanks to the Poles?

thought we were in the 21st Century, so your statistics would be 100 years out of date. yeah, well that figures doesn't it !!!

In this new century I would have no idea of life in Poland as I have not returned there. No idea!

Travel / Have you ever been in Poland? [111]

I have not been to Poland for many years and, excuse me, I do not lie and resent that remark. Life in Poland has always been falling in the twentieth century and must be falling now as so many of the young are leaving with just the old remaining so this too must effect the statistics.

I must admit that the British are getting fed up with so many foreigners here. There was a time, a long time ago, when seeing a young Polish person in England was a novelty and we would go out of our way to chat and meet up ect. Now, we just 'grin and bear it' and walk quickly the other way! Two hundred Poles you can distribute but to expect a small country like England to accommodate 600.000 plus is a little much especially when there is no health, school or education provision and to make it even worse, the Government is breaking their own promises on the Green Belt to build more houses in our countryside because of a housing shortage! Where are these 600,000 Poles supposed to live? I very much doubt if Poland would give houses and work to the British.

I see myself moving my family (wife is Polish born from Wroclaw) to Poland within the next two years.

No, that is a really bad idea as life expectancy is still falling and there is a lot of crime in Poland. You can be mugged for your money and even thrown out of a train window for your wallet! England is still safer and social welfare provision is a lot better than in Poland. As for the health Service in Poland, well, you have to take drugs in to the hospital as there are no drugs inside. You will have to pay for everything, even giving bribes to the doctors for treatment. Poland to live in-certainly not!

Language / Duzy / wielki - synonyms? [44]

Wielki is used for large things mainly such as a wielki statek-a great ship. I think the point is that the word wielki is not a Polish word as it was taken from the Russians language. The Russian word is wjelikij and has to be used in its short form for big which is bolshoj but in Russian there is no short form of this word so wjelikij has to be used instead.

Yes, its strange. Indian doctors are supposed to help to cure people and instead try to drive a car full of explosives through an airport terminal building!

Maybe I am missing something here and I have certainly not read all the way back but what in essence is the point of this thread? What is being discussed here right now?

That's true. Without America's help, Britain would have been defeated big time. This pertains to both world wars.

How can it pertain to both World Wars when America only joined the war at the end?

UK, Ireland / Polish language teacher wanted in brighton, UK! [9]

I was simply suggesting that instead of expensive one to one lessons he could try the University Of Sussex in Brighton which does run various language courses on a part time basis and it would undoubtedly be cheaper.

UK, Ireland / Polish language teacher wanted in brighton, UK! [9]

I would think that an agency would be very expensive indeed. Find a friend, there must be loads of poles in Brighton.

Try the Sussex Language Institute of the University of Sussex, based in Brighton, they offer courses at all levels in many languages, including Polish. Look on their web site for details.

Work / My Polish Teacher's attitude [19]

ut the teacher in line. Complain to her superiors.

Why do you say that, Pole/ In Moscow the Poles hated the English! They never had a single good word to say about them. Churchill sold us to Stalin-I never heard the end of it. And now? Isn't it interesting how all these Poles today change their stories and where are they living? Only in Canada, America, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and many other similar Muslim countries where Arabic is also the first language!

UK, Ireland / What will the Polish give the UK? [58]

e used by the Romans to get to and colonize Britain?

Not all of Britain as it happens. The Romans had boats but not mettalic ships which were invented by the British as a by product of the Industrial Revolution.

r philosophy in a
tent..

Are the British unable to sold, rivet and cement things for themselves? Who invented cars, the post office, submarines, ships and huge colonies, if not the British (along with the Germans and the French, of course!)

UK, Ireland / Polls for Poles in the UK [178]

mmigrants. I'm not sure of the cost of setting up such things but what a waste of money!!!. How does it benefit Britain, how is using British tax payers money to organise something that BRITISH people cannot or would not want to even use. i don't

It benefits the Middle Class as they have a staple of cheap workers and it is all paid with tax payers money. The very rich themselves do not pay income tax as they fax their own money around the World. It is a good political move as it drives down wage rates and keeps the working class divided. The Poles are here for a different reason as to the British working class and they are not interested in industrial disputes and trade unions.
