Real Estate / Where can i buy a cheap house or a flat in Poland? [43]

There are lots of cheap houses in Poland (usually built before the WWII and in not-so-good condition). But such cheap houses are located in the country (let's say a dozen or more kilometers from the city). Unless you like living in the country, it's not a good choice for general investors IMO.

Life / Polish people living in Poland, How do you see your future? [37]

I think most Polish people who post here are immigrants. I know many people who want to leave Poland for work - and it seems to be "normal" nowadays. Nobody in Poland would be surprised if you told them you're going to go to Germany/UK or other EU country to work.

Law / Poland - a more and more Investable Country [41]

I'm gambling on a better future in Poland,

Such people like you (who have money and live most of the times abroad) jack up the prices of properties in Poland :). They invest with a short-term goals and quick gains. I understand it, but I'm sorry for those Poles who work their butts off to buy a property and then they will realize they are going to make 10% on it during a several-years period (and they hoped they would make 100% or so).

Life / Wanna Move to Poland.. but having hard time starting. [10]

You sound like you have been disappointed with your life in the US (assuming you live in the US) and wanna try a new life in Poland. It's a pity Polish parents living abroad so easily forget their mother language and don't teach their children.

Anyway, think twice before you go without doing a good research and calculating how much money you have or may not have. It could be fun to go to Poland on vacation in the summer, but when you actually have to live there and make decent money, it's not that easy. Especially without a good education and the knowledge of the Polish language.

Most Poles struggle to make 500 USD per MONTH and the prices in Poland are about the same like in the US (clothes/cars/computers/gas etc. are more expensive than in the US).

Life / Internet providers in poland [11]

I think the "Neostrada" is one of the most popular internet service providers in Poland (they are fast too from what I've heard). They are a part of the TP (Telekomunikacja Polska).

Check

tp.pl

or

tp.pl/prt/pl/klienci_ind/internet/internet_w_domu/neostrada_tp/

Food / Popular Polish shots or drinks? [4]

I think most Polish drinks derive from other countries (but have the Polish name). Like "krwawa Merry" (bloody marry) etc. Not sure 100% though.

Travel / Cheaper alternative to visiting Poland with children? [4]

Flying to the UK won't make a lot of difference (maybe saving of 1K total) - but with children it is much more difficult to plan. I once had a good deal from SAS airlines - Chicago through Kopenhagen and Warsaw.

Life / Polish movies - what they are like? [34]

Polish movies are like Polish songs - somewhat nondescript and somehow boring (with some exceptions of course).

Study / Where to study Advertisement Management in Poland? [13]

But this site has nothing to do with Polish universities in Poland

Here is a ranking of the best Polish universities - you can type some of the names in google.pl and possibly their official websites have the English version.

Travel / What attracts tourist to Poland? [54]

we can probally include cheap vodka.

It wouldn't pay to go to Poland to buy cheap vodka - it's better to go to Ukraine or Belarus.

Travel / What attracts tourist to Poland? [54]

Hard to say now. Before 1989 Polish (political) immigrants were interested to see their families. Now I would add:

1. Polish women
2. Hmm
3. Hmmmm

Travel / The Polish immigrants' vacations in Poland - it used to be different [20]

I'm not a fan of exotic countries like Thailand either, but a big plus of Poland is that it's located in the center of Europe. From there you can easily travel both East and West (South and North too). So while Poland is not a prime spot as far as the climate is concerned, it's a good base for further exploration of Europe.

Travel / The Polish immigrants' vacations in Poland - it used to be different [20]

poland would do really well to develop both its national tourism and the way it markets itself as a tourist destination

That would be a smart move. But tell it to the Polish government and they would go: "HUH? What are you talking about?"

Real Estate / Apartment Prices in Sopot [18]

Ive seen some new developments being built priced at around 12000zl per sq m.

It's about the same as NEW contstruction in the Chicago area in a very good suburbs (including 1 or 2-car garage space in the building). Do they cover garage space?

PS. Who buys these apartments for such a high price?

Work / How to find a half decent job in Poland? [18]

Through relatives/friends/social networks?

It also depends on what you mean by "half-decend" (by what standards - American/Western European or Polish ones).

Real Estate / Apartment purchase in Poland [226]

he Polish property markt is completely rubbish and some one has been spiking me with magic mushrooms.

Hmm - could you elaborate more on that? I know most Poles tend to think (or hope) Poland has already reached the status of a wealthy and powerful country without any reasonable fundations or even hard work -- is that what you mean?

Also, if I may ask - did you have a Polish real estate agent to help you buy a property?

Real Estate / Property Management in the Tri-City area in Poland? [8]

There are not so many as in the US; I would say there are proportionally 80% less. Polish people don't use such agencies a lot - they either manage it themselves or through their friends/family. You need to make sure the agency is trustworthy.

Real Estate / Apartment Prices in Sopot [18]

Sopot is one of the nices areas by the Polish Baltic sea indeed. I think you would pay about $2000-$2500 per square meter (apartments by the seaside go for 50-100% more)...

Life / How do Poles perceive the European Union? [7]

The EU is ruled by Germany and their banks so they will always benefit most from this organization. Poland will be just "a member" - now and in X years...
