History / Jewish belongings [118]

Think about it this way. Ze Germans were pulling out golden teeth from Jewish mouths. Would you think that this kind of People would leave some precious belongings of those Jews unwatched in their abandoned homes? As for family pictures, etc… maybe there are still somewhere out there. Hard to tell.

Sorry Maty, but anyone who's young enough to be my....ahhemmm....nephew is cute....;)

I was afraid that you are going to comment on my boyish look, but you are a very good diplomat. :)

Maty is the man. He has to be one of the most balanced people here. He never gets out of hand like some of us. I'm so guilty :)

Thanks Fisz. It's a great mixture of nationalities here on this forum. I'm not going to offend the whole nation just because one individual has something against my people. Although venting is human and definitely healthy. :)

PS: I didn't notice you slagging off other nationalities as well. :)

I think, and I believe many of the women on here think that Maty is very cute (tell me I'm wrong ladies)....at least he's got personality and posts a picture of himself....where's your mug, zion?

You are not wrong Ms R, I have to say he has the cutest cheeks on this planet :)

Thank you. :) Although I prefer manly to cute. :P

Im at work, so I shall be Shelley by day (when I get the chance) - there is a slight difference, I had to add an S :) and maybe be Ama by night :)

Double personality, eh? Is Ama going to be the good guy/girl and Shelley the bad one? You know, the good cop bad cop thingy? :)

Now question - are we being impolite or English people are too polite ?

In Polish you don't have to add please when you are asking for something or trying to be polite. Instead of the word please we use a different intonation of a sentence. It's not rude. It’s just a language difference.

thats an interesting thought Maty... what makes you say that...?

Comparable language skills and rhetoric. Bulldog was slagging of Poles until he suddenly realized that he was being nasty and started to praise us. Then he vanished and uk_ appeared - first he slagged of Poles and after few months he started to defend us. Once uk_ vanished, espana appeared with the same pattern. I think that there is seriously **** up attention seeker visiting this forum. Once he gets bored with slaging poles he changes his politics. Than when he gets bored with being nice, he creates a new profile and the fun starts all over again. He argues just for the sheer pleasure of argument. What a very pathetic low life character he must be.

do you understand me?

Yes, I catch your drift.

I have a question Admin. Can you check if bulldog, uk_, espana and zion have the same IP adress?

To achieve 160 mill. level of population and to gain "liberum veto" in EU? ;-))))

Trying to stir troubles between the allies, eh? Oh you sly fox you! :)

News / The legal definition of Vodka in EU - Poland not happy [16]

Wine tastes of what you make it from. Vodka has basically no taste at all, its a chemical produced from sugar. Remove the water and you can use it to drive a car or strip paint. The UK has been making grain alcohol for centuries as well (adding flavour and calling it Gin), so it as much a British tradition as anyone else's. Which is to say, nobody's.

Of course it has taste! I'm not going to lecture you what should be considered Gin and what not. The same with wine. But tradition of making wódka here in Poland goes back to early middle ages and it’s definitely a part of our culture. If you want to make a diluted alcohol from what not, fine. But don't call it vodka.

My dear fellow, how could you possibly criticise other countries when the Poles haven't exactly covered themselves in glory either for the past couple of hundred years...!!

In the past couple of hundred years as you say we did regain our independence TWICE!!! That's a damn thing to be proud of. Not to mention that we stopped the communist march in the 1920's. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish-Soviet_War) Please don't voice your opinion in topics that you clearly know nothing of.

News / the most true Post about Poland ever( the truth will set you free) [29]

My God, I should be studying right now but few things need to be cleared here:

picking out the Jews 'as recomended by 'Radio Maryja'

WTF??? Could you back up that statement because it's the first time I hear about it.

The extreamists are running the country.

LPR could be considered extremist, but PIS? I don't think so.

a lot happen in that time I think you should come back here to see how things are going and bealive me you much better off in canada

Yes, a lot of things did change. For example I remember few years ago having a job was basically a privilege. Do you want to know the secret behind the oh so famous "polish working ethic"? Well before 2004 I always heard from my employer "If you don't like it than leave! There are 10 people standing outside the building and waiting for your job!". It was a pretty good motivation to work extra hours for free and do things that werent in my . But now due to a work force shortage the situation really did improve. Slowly we can feel the wages rising even here in the province. I just changed my job and I'm happy with my income, something that wasnt that certain few years ago.

Zion has a valid point, I think. The Government could and should be doing more to encourage Poles to form their own businesses.

I don't think that they know exactly how to do that.

What is your suggestion to try and keep Poles in Poland? I try to tell my GF and she says theres nothing for here there and the employers don't pay well. What would make PL more attractive to it's youth do you think? .

This phenomenon is strongly connected with our communist’s heritage. You see during the communist times the reality here was rather dull. Everything was gray, there were times where the only products stocked in shops where mustard and vinegar, long ques, government invigilation, no perspectives what so ever… From time to time we could see some western/American films in TV and everybody was dreaming about living the life of westerners. Times have changed, CCCP broke down but people still are fascinated with the west. You know, If someone would lock you in your house and force you to stay you would hate that place at some point. Add to that the power of TV with the power of gossip and you will get the answer. I think that a lot of people don’t know what they have until they loose it.

And dare I say it (please don't kill me) religion.

Nobody will kill you for that Kruk. I think that you are exaggerating here but I would definitely like to hear your point of view.

News / The legal definition of Vodka in EU - Poland not happy [16]

Vodka is basically diluted alcohol, you can make it from anything. Trying to restrict it is pointless.

And you can make wine even from apples, and yet the countries from the so called "vodka belt" respected the plea from the countries from the so called "wine belt" and agreed to pass legislation that wine can be made only from grapes. It's a pity that the "wine" countries are not so keen to respect our traditions and heritage. :/

News / Nazism in Poland - A recipe for mass suicide? [176]

But...they HAD nice uniforms! :)

Not only uniforms. Basically if it didn't had this negative connotation attached to it I'm sure a lot of designers would openly admit their admiration to the III Reichs "style" in clothes, etc.

Im surprised there is nazism in Poland to be honest, but there you go, there everywhere I guess still.

I wouldn't say that there is racism in Poland. Those are just some youngsters that watched too many films and think that the skinhead movement is all about Hitler, ubermenschen, etc. As I said before, it’s an underground of an underground. If not an underground of an underground of an underground. :)

News / Nazism in Poland - A recipe for mass suicide? [176]

Could some pole please explain the rationale behind the same?

It's basically an underground of an underground. People that are actually participating in this "movement' are either crazy loonies or youngsters fascinated with strength and power. Very quickly they grow out from it. It’s actually the same as in other countries. Don’t you have blood and honor and combat 14 in the uk?

Camden Market

A lot of strange characters hanging around Camden. I tested my assertiveness skills by refusing to by a leather jacket from some turk/Pakistani/arab looking guy. He lost about 45 minutes trying to convince me to buy it, with no luck of course. Boy was he pissed off. :))

Camden was great. :)

So they should, the Poles nicked loads of German land after World War 2.

You mean the land that once was Polish? Well Germans didn't feel bad taking it few hundred years ago, so why we should feel guilty claming it back? Besides, the decision about shifting polish boarders after WWII was done over our heads. If you want to blame someone, blame Stalin.

He unified Germany and made it a world power!
(We are not thinking in the first place about Poles when we admire him!)

The statement I wrote was from my point of view. :)

Germanophobes at work....derailing everything german...even to the point of looking stupid and ridiculous!

Not really. The whole thing was just a bluff from the whole beginning. Didn’t had anything to do with German's. It was more to convince EU to support its eastern members in the struggle against Putin’s imperialistic politics in Eastern Europe. Did the bluff took to long? Is it going to have disastrous consequences for Poland? Well it can. But than again we had been warned to do what the old Europe says so many times and yet you still visit Warsaw and smile to our face… Let’s just see what will happen. :)

I agree. Thanks to his attempts of germanization of poles he had awoken the national identity of Poles in Pomerania and Silesia. Good job Otto. :)

News / Polish-German Relations in the Present [697]

I mean the architecture in the center is very gothic. It seems like that of german cities.Of course in the suburbs there are different contributions.

I would be very careful which such statements. Just because a building looks gothic doesn't instantly mean that it was build by Germans. :) I'm not denying German contribution in those cities which was definitely significant (in Wrocław’s case especially) but both agglomerations were Polish for a longer time than German and the fact that Breslau again is called Wrocław I see as a sign of justice. :)

Our old jewel Breslau got destroyed in WWII...what the Poles made of it we don't want...the same with Königsberg...it's dead and destroyed!

The history is not over and Wrocław's mayor is doing pretty good job in reestablishing its former position(the cities that is :P ). Let's just wait a little bit with the judgments shall we? :)

Fritz???

Gerhard Fritz Kurt Schröder :)

Our Merkel is intelligent, polite and has style...she will still smile even when she rather wants to take a frying pan to your twins heads!

This time she smiles because she wants Poland’s support in the European constitution issue. It astonishes how you Germans can be very polite when you need something. :)

This woman has class!

I agree.

News / Polish-German Relations in the Present [697]

It does help that Merkel speaks russian and Putin speaks german (his kids go to a german school I've read).

Actually since Merkel replaced Schroeder in the position of chancellor the relationship between Russia and Germany certainly calmed down. Schroeder wanted Europe to be more independent from the influence of Americans, thus strongly supported and promoted Putins Russia on the international arena, for which he was later very generously rewarded given a post as the head of the shareholders' committee in the Russian-led consortium, controlled by Gazprom.

Merkell is defiantly more pro-american than pro-russian so even the fact that she knows Russian won't help Putin to establish as good relationship with her as he had with Fritz. Which, BTW, is a very good thing for Poland. :)

Built Poznań and Wrocław? Their contribution can't be overlooked, but I assure you that Poznan as well as Wrocław where built long before first German settlers came there. :)

News / Polish-German Relations in the Present [697]

In contrary to what some people may believe after reading this forum, the situation is not bad. Germans didn't even make it in the list concerning most disliked nationalities by Poles (Arabs, Gypsies and Romanians placed highest in that ranking). However I think that it wouldn't be hard to go back to our previous relationships (those before 1939) and people like Erika Stainbach or the whole Prussian Claims Society don't make it easy for us to truly like our western neighbors.

Who do you think is respected now in the EU and who get's laughed about?

You may not like the stubbornness of our twins... You may laugh at their posture, height, etc but it wont change the fact that your chancellor will soon get some serious cramps from all that smiling to Lech and Jarosław. :)

Not everywhere. I don't know about others, but burning Polish in Poland is a crime. And we don't use to burn even Russian or German, so I'm very surprised.

Well, those people where anty-glob..... ermm pardon me, alter-globalists. I guess it explains everything. :)

Life / Can you think of any famous Polish personalities? [147]

But...isn't that the reason for building such lists? Showing off your best and most famous?
International famous that is?

Fame is not a very grateful "creature". I would think that builder of first oil mine and first refinery deserves to be more famous than Paris Hilton, but unfortunately the truth is that only few know about Ignacy £ukasiewicz while probably even Pigmy’s a and Eskimos know about the latter. Is it right? Who cares actually? :)

I helped my girlfriend through this process because it turns out that in theory the Polish government can tax you on your income from the UK; putting it simply you can get taxed twice.

Yep, but this law is no longer valid.

History / Jews...and their Polish experience [520]

I don't have anything against Jews, But many don't treat anyone right. Esp. the Hacidic jews.

I will like to add that this Hasidic movement was established in the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth in the XVII century. Don't ask me why I decided to share this knowledge because I don't know. :)
