Life / New skyscraper in Warsaw... [58]

Ok but these are pictures from large cities such as Warszawa, Wroclaw, Poznan, what about the country side? Nothing has changed there. No sign of modernization. :(

Are they going to remove that communist relic (palace kultury) or not? That thing in the background looks just...awful.

History / Should Germany claim to be the victims in Poland? [510]

Besides to me Nazis and Germans are not the same.

During WWII the majority of Germans were either members of nazi organizations or supported nazi regime. Also, a lot of Germans voted or supported nazi party in the 30’s. It is because of that support Hitler came to power. So, it is safe to say that Germans, not some abstract nazis are responsible for what happened during WWII.

Even, the German government does not deny the fact that Germany should to bare responsibility for what happened during WWII.

History / Should Germany claim to be the victims in Poland? [510]

Should Germany claim to be the victims in Poland?

No.

We all know this "exhibition" has been created because some Germans want to feel better about their own past.

The real question is: what should Poland do?

News / Polish-German Relations in the Present [697]

Name calling , you are how old? So nice to be in an adult world.

I apologize for using word "idiot" but it doesn't change my view. I think this "stand up" approach to our foreign policy is just unrealistic and may bring a lot of trouble for Poland.

Do you see the claims coming into Poland?

I see those claims but there are other ways of dealing with such matters. Other than “stand up” approach.

I guess you think Poland paying them off non stop is ok?

Wrong guess.

from the other hand there very succesful actions too all in all without resistnce we wouldnt speak Polish we wouldnt have our culture ...

Would you call it progress though?

I am proud (just as you do) that we had courage to defend ourselves when there was no hope for victory. But I will not call it "progress" and I don't want history repeat itself just because some idiot wants to "stand up" and get us in trouble again.

Yes, that is true to some degree. However, if Poland rolled over and let herself be raped by other, stronger countries in the EU, there would be no progress whatsoever, for without demands and some kind of self-identity, then there is no moving forward.

Sure. Progress. I'm glad you mentioned it. This "standing up" has brought us nothing but progress! Starting from partitions, through all insurrections & uprisings, WWI, WWII and over 40 years of communist rule. Nothing but pure progress.

Please, don't make me laugh. With your logic, then Germany, Russia and England would be ruling Europe and the rest of us "little guys" would be at their mercy.

Are they not leading Europe now? Are they not the strongest countries in Europe now? Where is Poland? What is our position in Europe now?

Reliable allies? When in their history have they had reliable allies? They've been surrounded by these powers all throughout history, and it is in a Poles blood to make his demands, no matter how "weak" his backup is.

We have never had any reliable allies but we need them.

I don’t know anything about your blood but it is not in my nature to be unrealistic.

News / Polish-German Relations in the Present [697]

You sir, are a coward, and the slime of the earth. What possible benefits do you see from SITTING DOWN, as you put it. To be a coward just like yourself?

And you sir, should read my post, try to understand it, and then reply instead of calling me names.

What does realistic mean?

That means representing what is real, not abstract or ideal. The reality is that Poland is not a super-power and it does not have military, economic nor political power to make any demands and threats.

So you're telling me that after WW2, under Communist rule, Poland should have shut up, because they got their ass kicked?

NO. What I was trying to say is that Poland should have reliable allies, strong economic, military and political position in Europe (and outside) to be able to back up its demands.

"Standing up" just because it sounds good and "tough" is just plain stupid.

Please disregard this creep ladies and gentleman, for he is but another liberal coward who does not know history.

a) how do you know I am liberal?

b) stop calling me coward

c) who are you to tell other people to disregard me?

- You strongly disagree that Poland should have a strong government standing up for the Polish people?

If "standing up for Polish people" means asking for trouble/making enemies all over the Europe & world then I don't want this kind of government.

Are you Russian or German? Carol

???

Poland will stand tall.

I strongly disagree. It is because of views like yours Poland always get its a$$ kicked. I say we should for once SIT DOWN and start being realistic about our situation in Europe. Poland is not a super-power and its foreign policy should be more realistic.

Your view reminds me of Polish government in 1939. They would “stand tall” to everybody around and they were first to leave the country.

Life / Living in Poland without working? - Your opinion [63]

Why do you guys always get pissed off at someone just because he doesn't share your opinion?

I am not pissed but I disagree with you.

you got the right to feel that way man but you can't deny that most of things are expensive in Poland and if you'll be honest with yourself, investing the same amount of money for example in Spain, will bring you more profit and much quicker. Another story obviously is your preference. You chose to live in Poland so obviously you'll defend your point. I'm talking about the possibilities to invest money in general without involving any feelings toward any country or people.

You assumed that location is the only factor for ROI. That simply is not true.

News / Poland turning into a religious state? Polish politic and Church. [96]

I'm still waiting for a proof from you that there's too much religion in the Polish government....
:)

LiD MP commented on Thursday’s meeting between education minister Katarzyna Hall (PO) and metropolitan archbishop of Warsaw Kazimierz Nycz who agreed that religious education could become a compulsory A-level subject.

Isn't the fact of such meeting an evidence of influence that Catholic Church has in the government?

News / Poland turning into a religious state? Polish politic and Church. [96]

Poland turning into religious state ?...

Although Catholic Church has a great influence in the Polish politics, I would be far from comparing Poland to a religious state and put it in the same line as Iran, for example.

Also, it is worth to point out that Mr. Szmajdzinski and his party Left Democratic Aliance has a very little credibility left and any statement coming out of this party and its people, to me personally has a very little value.

Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

You go to a restaurant in Poland and you have to ask for water. In the US first thing they do it bring ice cold water.

They ask what you would like to drink. Then the server brings you whatever you ordered.

Language / Why do people want to study Polish? [90]

When I heard Goran Persson of Sweden several years ago, I could have sworn I was listening to a British Member of Parliament! When I finally realized it was Persson, I was truly speechless.

Yes, English is widely spoken in Scandinavia (especially Sweden and Denmark). As far as I know, even some TV stations broadcast in English there.

Language / Why do people want to study Polish? [90]

But let's see in maybe 10-15 years, their level, now that English is taught in every school.

I agree. It will probably take several years for English to become widely spoken in Poland (if the current language teaching trend continues).

Language / Why do people want to study Polish? [90]

Older generation in the rural areas of Poland is less likely to speak any other language but Polish. In big cities such as Warszawa, Wroclaw, Gdansk or Krakow people are better educated and are more likely to speak at least one more language beside Polish.

Kaszub, Kaszubia - a region in the northern Poland.

I don't think they have anything to do with ketchup, rednecks or mountains.

UK, Ireland / Are polish pupils harming native british childrens education? [280]

Why did you respond to my post? Did I ask you to do that?

Sure, for your kind all immigrants are mindless.

Instead of calling people "mindless" use valid arguments and try to prove your point. In case you forgot but other people are allowed to have their own opinions.

Patrycja19

Patrycja. First of all, I never mentioned the American educational system in my posts. Your whole story is about a school in the US. Second, I never stated that some schools (both US and british) may indeed lack proper funding. Third, how does your story relate to the topic of this discussion?

Are polish pupils harming native british childrens education?

I am sure they need it with the abundance of pupils and need for translators and such

I believe otherwise. That's the difference. You believe that english schools need more money, I believe otherwise. I believe they have enough funds and resources to hire new teachers or translators. I believe that just because a group of teaches said they need more funds it doesn't mean they actually need it.
