History / Why we talk about Nazis not Germans [138]

You can't expect a yank like me to understand soccor...I mean football :)

In regards to why some Germans supported Hitler, being that I'm not a German nor was I alive in that period, I can't really comment. However I would suspect good old fashioned sheep complex. When most people see a throng of people chanting, they tend to want to be a part of the "cool crowd".

I'd have to respectfully disagree.

Anyway, my point is this. People will support whoever can provide them, or promises to provide them, bread and circuses.

People are sheep. They will always stand on the sidelines and root for whichever team is currently winning.

Law / Temporary health insurance for residency requirements [11]

ok I found it (all by myself, too).

The company is Polskie Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeń S.A. (ptu.pl). The paper states its "Insurance of foreigners and Polish citizens who live permanently abroad, during they stay in Poland". It covers "personal accident", "medical expenses", and "third party liability in private life". Cost me 150 USD for a year and got me my residency.

Policy changes person to person here.

I had insurance with PZU or some such outfit and after I signed the contract they upped the price. So I told them to **** off and now have it with another company thats $150 for the year. If you're interested I'll find out the details.

Life / AMERICAN-STYLE SLOB CHIC IN POLAND? [24]

I think some are starting to adopt the "frat boy douchebag" look. Popped collars on pastel shirts, uncombed hair, a blank facial expression...

I've seen a few of these mouth-breathers around. More prevalent thought are the "sport handsomes" in their dashing track-suits and over-gelled hair.

USA, Canada / What can I expect in Poland compared to the United States? [48]

I have a question about the food -- we're moving there within the next month or so. I've been looking at carrefour ads and notice you do not refrigerate your milk? It looks like our apt. has a very small fridge, is this common?

We refrigerate our milk. When I got here we had a tiny little fridge by the brand name "Silesia", but as it was more of an air conditioner than a fridge we went and got a "regular" size one.

Travel / Driving to Świnoujście [5]

We took the ferry but I didn't happen to tape it. We were actually in the area for the Wolin Slav/Viking Festival, so we didn't spend a lot of time at the beach.

Life / PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICES... Problem with Neighbour in Poland. [24]

who is the one who is unalphabet? rofl

Yes, quite. Ask my wife and she will tell you I am the most unalphabet individual in all of Lower Silesia. But that isn't the issue. The issue here is that poor dheva requires advices on how to acquire his relax in light of the fact that he lives in the country yet is quite perturbed by the level of country noises.

Irony.

Life / PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICES... Problem with Neighbour in Poland. [24]

Somerled:
I hate it when I can't have relax due to unalphabet people.

What does this sentence mean please??

It means I'm sitting there, having a relax (as I tend to do after a hard day's work), and I can't because some person, who is quite obviously an unalphabet person, disturbs my relax. It's quite un-nerving.

Life / Mac users in Poland? [9]

I use Rosetta Stone.

I went to the iSpot in Wrocław. Crazy expensive. My editing software was $1200 in the states, and zl5000 here. I thought it was a fluke but looking at Apple's Polish site its pretty expensive there as well.

Life / Who has moved to Poland in the last year? Swap stories. [115]

I arrived about two months ago. Seems fine so far. Sure there is the every day pain in the ass things, but no more than anywhere else and less than where I'm from. I work from home and get paid in USD so I haven't had the stress of finding a job. Learning the language (Ten pies jest biały), dealing with the horrible voice-over guy on TV. Working on my greencard. Eating pierogies, drinking "turkish" coffee. Going on walks much to the amusement of my neighbors. Realizing that "c" is pronounced "ts" and still have no idea what the "a" with the little dangle is all about. Spending time in my girl's village. Homesick as ****. It's as good as I make it I suppose.

All in all I like it so far, other that the ********* hollering outside right now. Apparently Zagłębie Lubin is the best...from what I can tell.

Life / Is it safe for me and my Asian friends to come to Poland? [44]

No, you will surely be beaten by the roving gangs of skinheads. There is a concentration camp on every corner. Villagers will come to your flat with torches and pitchforks and children will throw rotten fruit at you.

Stop with these f'ing threads about "I'm *insert brown nationality here*, is it safe for me to come to Poland". Look at one of the other 3 threads currently on the front page of this section about this very same topic.
