USA, Canada / My wife is trapped in the US. [5]

The funny thing is that she is not a US citizen that can't leave the US. Sounds kinda silly.

Anyone without a valid passport can not leave the US, it applies to everyone, not just your wife. Same if you didnt have your US Passport, you couldn't leave either.

She is going to be a citizen at some point because she married a US citizen - you.

The wife does not have to become a citizen ever. She can remain a legal permanent resident forever, and just keep renewing the green card every 10yrs.

Any polish travel agency will take care of the renewal of her polish passport

I haven't heard of this. My understanding was that you have to apply in person. Be sure to have all the required paper work, filled out application, fee in cash, & passport pics based on PL requirements (they differ from US passport pictures).

Lines are real long at the PL consulates, be prepared with patience!

USA, Canada / Need help...American Citizen marrying Polish Girl [52]

Check out this site, it helps a lot with family based immigration

visa journey

You dont need an attorney to get her the greencard. Its a simple process. The above site has members that can answer your questions along the way.

Your attorney also seems out of touch with the immigration requirements. You only need last years income taxes to be sent in with the filing (2 yrs ago they changed the rule from sending 3yrs of W2, to know only 1 yrs of tax info),

You can wait to file your adjustment of status, until you have your 2008 taxes completed in January.

You must meet the financial benchmarks for a family of 2 (assuming you have no kids, neither does she). If you show you dont make enough, you'll need a co-sponsor to sign for you.

USA, Canada / FIRST POL-AM CATHOLIC (?) PRIESTESS [72]

she stepped away from the church, not her religion, she stayed catholic she just didnt go back to church.

Going to church is part of a practicing Catholic. Saying you are catholic and not practicing is not the same.

my mom wasnt ignorant as you are right now for saying such things about a beautiful person that you dont have a feken clue about..

The only ignorant person here is you sweetie. Its not my fault she didnt teach you about her religion. You come on here trying to be an expert, yet you have no idea about Catholicism. I dont know who your mother was, what she practiced, and honestly I dont care.

you would know its not kosher to talk shyt and judge like you are so harshly

There is nothing Kosher in the Catholic religion, shows how ignorant you are.

Krakowianka:
Yes he can.

you have to admit that it's foolish to say that someone has got all the answers...

Because you have doubt, is your own issue. A true believer knows where to find the answers.

Life / Weddings, venues, legalities in Warsaw [3]

Having a party in a hotel in Warsaw will not be the "polish" effect I think you are looking for. Did you ever consider renting a castle & having your reception there? Given the prices that Warsaw hotel's charge, I think the castle may come out to the same or even cheaper. Having it in the castle/palace is a unique thing indeed, and I'm sure the guests would remember it a lot more, than a standard hotel.

Work / ESCS in Tarnow, Poland - applied for an ESL job [6]

Renting in Tarnow is not that expensive, food prices are like anywhere else. However, there is not much to do in Tarnow, few pubs, few restaurants that are "good". One theatre that is quite small, and I still wonder how it manages to stay open with only 5-10 people coming to see a movie.

The train station is a real good plus. Only 1.5hr ride to Krakow!

that is why some choose to not keep interpreting things as they are written because the book was at one time called the old testament then it became the new testament.. pretty soon it will say.. versions 1 thru 500

You have no idea about the old testament vs the new testament, yet you think your some expert on why the reiligion has it downfalls? Those are two separate sections of the bible. One written before Christ, one after. They were not renamed! Maybe your mom "didnt go back" because she didnt know much about the religion to begin with. Its rare that a person knowing the religion very well step away. Its usually due to ignorance of what it truely is, and laziness to find out. It's easier to say bah humbug

Krakowianka:
I believe that most atheists are that way because they are too lazy to follow a religion, and its easier to follow no rules.

or maybe they have their own mind and don't need constantine's rules to tell them what's what?

They are God's rules, do you know of the 10 comandments??

Krakowianka:
I know priests who surely can.

And what makes you think he has all the answers?.
Honestly he can't.

Yes he can. Not all priests are the same. Some more devoted to Christ, some just fulfilling the duties assigned. The more spiritual priest, the more educated priest can explain all the logics behind the bible and God. God does exist, no matter how many times you write here he doesnt, or try to convince yourself its imagination. It may be your imagination that he doesnt, but he does. If you are a strong atheist, then surely you shouldn't be scared to go talk to a priest who can answer the questions or thoughts you have on why you try to disprove his existance. I know I'm a strong enough Catholic that I can duke it out with an atheist and not worry my faith is not strong.

I have been to some very good church masses but they did not talk so much about God and Jesus, more about what they are doing in Somalia and wht terrible atrocities are being committed there.

If you go once in a while, you hear a limited selection. They relate items in the bible to current events, is that not acceptable?

USA, Canada / FIRST POL-AM CATHOLIC (?) PRIESTESS [72]

I personally think that it is far too easy to blindly follow the religion of your birthplace and time.
In fact the whole idea of blindly following anything is beyond me, religion asks not to be questioned

Lets not confuse those who say they believe a particular religion, but do not practice it. Saying you are catholic, and not following the rules/sacraments doesnt count as being religious. You can certainly question the religion, there are sound responses for each of your questions. I most likely cant answer all of them, but I know priests who surely can.

For well over a thousand years it did not oppose deacons and diaconesses fulfilling similar duties

Perhaps you do not know the roles of a deacon versus a priest? Research it before you go calling it blasphemy.

It's truly amazing how easily people presume that if someone does not follow their rules / religion he does not follow any.

When I said "following no rules", i meant not following the rules of the church/religion, not moral per se. And definitely not MY rules, but of the religion a person choses to be.

Law / my parents are both polish can I get a Polish citizenship in Poland? [7]

You would need to enter on a Polish passport in order to be able to stay longer than 90days. If you enter on the Canadian one, its 90days only.

To get more info on what is required to get the PL passport, check out the site of the Poland embassy in Canada.

what wasnt clear? Men can only appoint men, like the apostles were all men, they can only name similar male successors.

I remember hearing about the Eve being "unclean" story, but dont recall if that was a story for kids to make religion simpler, or true basis.

Thank god I am an Atheist.

I believe that most atheists are that way because they are too lazy to follow a religion, and its easier to follow no rules. Or perhaps they seak to show off something, like they are unique. SeanBM I hope you know this isnt an attack at you, I'm just speaking in general on my view of atheists.

USA, Canada / FIRST POL-AM CATHOLIC (?) PRIESTESS [72]

"In the Church's latest statement on this matter, Pope John Paul II, using his full authority as the successor of Peter, states categorically that the Church cannot - not will not, but cannot - ordain women, now or in the future. The Catechism of the Catholic Church sets it out clearly, quoting the decree Inter insigniores:

Only a baptized man (vir) receives sacred ordination. The Lord Jesus chose men (viri) to form the college of the twelve apostles, and the apostles did the same when they chose collaborators to succeed them in their ministry. The college of bishops, with whom the priests are united in the priesthood, makes the college of the twelve an ever-present and ever-active reality until Christ's return. The Church recognizes herself to be bound by this choice made by the Lord Himself. For this reason the ordination of women is not possible. "

Catholic religion does not allow women as priests, therefore she is just a woman... not a priest.

Next Ms. Janice will say she is a lesbian, and that it should be allowed in the church as well.

This is what happens with stupid feminists.

UK, Ireland / 33% of Poles in Ireland to return to Poland in 2009 [30]

A lot of people are saying that if America fails to get out of this economic mess its only option will be to create a world war

That was way back in the day when the US actually produced stuff. Now that China and every other cheap country would be producing most of the items required for battle (and until know has been supplying for the Afghan-Iraq "conflict") this would have no benefit for the US. Maybe actually only a negative one, taxes would increase, hence pooring the US even more.

While the history books may tell us that the problems of the 1930s were political in nature, the system was under real threat and war got the economies moving again. The reconstruction boom afterwards also made a lot of people rich. Its not beyond the bounds of possibilites that history will repeat itself.

History has changed a lot! Much of the problems in the US are due to outsourcing, and fraud. Jobs have been fleeing to cheaper countries for decades, the stock market severe decline and accounting/management fraud are all reasons why the history will not repeat itself the same way as it did in the past.

Work / Looking for a Finance job in Poland [11]

finance jobs in Poland for English speakers (with no Polish!)

Many finance jobs require you to be fluent in not only English & Polish, but a 3rd language. Only knowing English means a much harder search.

Also Warsaw pays better in finance (vs Krakow) and has much more finance/actg firms.

USA, Canada / Double Polish-American citizenship? [16]

By being born to a Polish citizen, you autmatically have polish citzenship. What type of paperwork did you file? Did you submit it at the PL consulate in downtown Chicago?

Wait time for a PL passport (given all papers were submitted correctly, correct style photo & fees) takes from 6mo -1 yr.

You can call Warsaw to ask them to check on your file. Best to call in early am hours (Warsaw time that is).

If your father had a home, that could be transfered without PL citizenship. If he had just land, you need a pesel # (similar to our US social security #) to complete the transfer.

Not a fan of flaki here either. The smell just turns my stomach.

Flaki shouldn't smell if they are cleaned & cooked right. Some people just rinse them off a little and hence the smell & funky taste.

Is being a habitual liar part of the muslim religion? 2 years is an awful lot of time to be feeding lies to your family, and especially to this girl wasting time with you.

You should tell you parents who you really are, how this "Modern muslim" spends Christian holidays with a POLISH girl. Stop being a sissy and man up.

Then tell your girl about how you lied to her for 2 years. I think the situation will resolve itself once she finds out you are a sissy & liar.

USA, Canada / How to stay in USA without getting married? [125]

Is that how you got in?

ok, you may reapply in 10 years but do you think you'll get a visa? lol.. fat chance.

True indeed. The chances of a deportee being allowed back in are 0.0001% maybe not even that. They have to file waivers, and those sit at USCIS for years and years.

you break the rules, you pay the price.

USA, Canada / How to stay in USA without getting married? [125]

I know people that have been deported few times and with in month they came back.

They must have been smuggled in through Mexico, or jump some high fences. Once you have been deported, you are banned.

What is the use of living in the US undocumented. You can no longer open a bank account, cant have a drivers license, cant register a car. So unless you like living in someone's moldy basement and driving the bus everywhere, and remaining poor, US is not your best bet.

This is the reason so many have left the US. With EU borders open, they can live legally in the UK, Ireland, etc, and be able to drive, bank & even visit family in PL whenever they please.

News / What is the penalty in Poland for exercising foreign citizenship? [12]

you might be asked about your visa etc. this would lead to complications i imagine.

US citizens are not required to have visa's for stays under 90days. So if I only stay under that time, given entry & departure with a US passport, should that be fine?

I pose this question as I remember on my previous trip, that once they heard me speak fluent polish, they questioned where my PL passport was. At that time I didnt have one, and they called in another guy who took another look at the US passport, and said it was ok.

My question is, that now given that I do have both passports, must I be "required" to show them the PL one, even if I'm a born US citizen and dont wish to travel on PL passport?

News / What is the penalty in Poland for exercising foreign citizenship? [12]

I know Polish law does not specifically "allow" dual citizenship, but they you dont have to denounce another just to have it.

My question is regarding an item I recently read on wikipedia...
"Polish law does not explicitly allow dual citizenship, but possession of another citizenship is tolerated as there are no penalties for its possession alone. However, penalties do exist for exercising foreign citizenship, such as identifying oneself to Polish authorities using a foreign identification document"

"Poland treats nationals of other countries whom it considers Polish citizens as if they were solely Polish."
"this may create problems for individuals of Polish descent born abroad who, in spite of having no ties to Poland, are nevertheless subject to all obligations of Polish citizenship"

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_nationality_law

So say, I a polish citizen, while departing Poland, present my US passport for exit. What exactly is the penatly? What if I never decide to present my Polish passport?

USA, Canada / Double Polish-American citizenship? [16]

You can have both Polish & US citizenship. The only caveat is that, while you are in the US you are under US laws regarding say extradition, then while in Poland (or travelling on a PL passport) extradition laws would apply based on those in Poland.

The only advice is that US ambassy is muuuuuccchhh beter than th Polish one. Everywhere.

I agree 100%. The PL emabassy in the US is horrible, slow, gives out inaccurate info.

USA, Canada / How to stay in USA without getting married? [125]

the easiest way to do so is to become employed by an American company and have them sponsor your permanent residency request.

That is by far not the easiest way. How many employers do you think want to play with this mess? Very few! The process takes up to 5 years just to get a green card, depending of course how fast your employer plans to act. Employers take their sweeeeet time with this process, due to legal fees, and keeping you as an employee at cheaper rate longer. After you get a green card, they'll make you sign a contract for 5 years that you'll stay with the company (during which time they give you no pay raises, and if you leave, you have a hefty $sum to pay back).

You must be a permanent resident for minimum 5 years to apply for citizenship. So taking this route, you are looking at approx 10yrs.

If you are Indian, your chances of an employer following through with this are 1% at best. So many temp outsourcing companies in US/India working together, that they dont need to go through the process to have an Indian.

But by being illegal and overstaying their visit, they won't be able to come back to the US for 10 years.

Not entirely true. The amount of years for the ban depends on how long you have overstayed. Some short overstays are forgiven, some 3 yrs, some 5.

If the visa is expired, then when he does get married, the INS will come back to him saying his visa expired and they will say he could get deported unless he can prove that it would have a damaging effect on others, in this case the wife.

Very not true. Marrying a USC forgives ALL overstays. You will not be deported. You have to prove to USCIS that the marriage is true & genuine, and based on love, not the ability to gain legal residency. The part you mention "damaging effect on others" is really used for other cases, not marriage to USC.

He can stay in the US when papers are filed. And he should, because he might not be able to return to the US if he leaves. Even if his visa is good for 10 years, I've heard cases when people were turned back at the border for something.

You can, and should remain in the US until you are granted "advanced parole" document. This document gives you the right to re-enter the US during the time your AOS application is being evaluated. If you have previous illegal overstays, you CAN NOT LEAVE until you have a greencard in hand. Leaving earlier will destroy the whole process.

so his plans are to find someone to marry, and then later be with me. which is one hell of a screwed up situation, i know. That, or he was interested in buying a green card if that is at all possible.

Fraud if I ever heard of it. Do you think he's being even honest with you? Chances are, he's giving you this line to get you to feel bad, and marry him. He hasnt worked all this time on charming you for no green card. He'll get it, and take off... while you have the legal liability for him for the next 10yrs.
