Thank you Plk123, that was the article I posted but alas it was removed.

Both, he's a very simple man who once rose to shoulder a great challenge so he's definitely a hero but he's personally nothing more than a simple electrician who never really grasped the greater affairs of the world.

He may be simple, but whether he rose to shoulder anything at all is of grave doubt. I’ve read articles back home in Ireland about him also; same stories of lies and deceit keep surfacing. Seemingly he is promising to leave Poland if anymore controversy surfaces about his true role in the past. I find it rather odd that he isn’t pressing charges for slander if he isn’t the fraud and pretender people say he is. I ncant imagine the humiliation he must be now feeling, nor the reaction of Polish people who have considered him a hero

Because usually the good men dont go out of their way to lie and cheat their way into your heart ;) Some would say that if a woman allows an arsehole to find her so easily, and indeed accept him into her life she deserves him and the consequences :) That and there is the time old tradition of women being attracted to bastards and an inherent need to change them. Having said that the good guys seem to do ok in the end, so happily ever after :)

the bottom line is...love is the absence of anxiety...is this connection energizing or depleting, and nourishing to both parties? based on mutual power,exceptance and naturalness? a true loving relationship with any one is the absence of fear!!!! if your a mess,dump him. find some one who when your with him, you feel good, about him and most importantly feel good about your self. there are alot of fish out in the sea...place your self in other citys, situations, activities,etc....its a huge world if you just get out there.and as you wait for mr. right, focus on your self and self growth...list 5 things you have always wanted to do, even the ones you are scared to do...do then. my best and smile

I guess I posted this thread as more a measure of Polish opinion regarding this character
rather than highlighting anything new to you guys. Lech Walesa intrigues me, as does the idea of him being a national hero and duping the Polish people for so long. It’s heartening to know that the younger generation question this guy’s true contribution to Poland’s past rather than perhaps idolize him like their parents might have. Are these publications about his true past and shady associations well known in Poland? I know there are books coming out about him, but will Polish people believe them? I think he would have no other option but to leave Poland if further revelations about him are in the public domain, although I wonder if he will get to keep his many awards etc. All these stories about him seem to be gathering momentum recently, Im fascinated to see where all of this will end for Mr Lech Walesa.

This Lech Wałęsa character intrigues me, as does his popularity. Im aware of his place in Polish history but my understanding of it is that he was more of a figurehead for other more active and relevant people in the trade union movement. I dont mean to offend anyone, but he comes across as a very, very stupid inarticulate guy in interviews and is internationaly seen as more of an embarrassment to Poland than anything else. Having listened to the oppinions of many Poles, it would seem that most would share this oppinion of him also. Here is an article I found on the net, it seems perfectly plausable to me.

"A giant fraud orchestrated by the Polish communist regime has been committed and we've all been duped. In the end of seventies the Polish economy was falling apart and the country was on the verge of collapse. A fall of the regime was inevitable. There was not much to do to prevent it to happen. There was no money and no food.

I suspect the banking sector will be hit in Poland, and credit will be curtailed somewhat. However Poles arent 'generally' loaded with credit or debt so I suspect it will escape the worst of the recession. Perhaps more importantly because there isnt mass media hype and fear in Poland about a credit crisis, people are still spending cash and thus money is circulating which is vital to the economy. Export neighbours and returning immigrants are a worry though, and I see all the recent multinationals moving on to Ukraine within a decade. That and I suspect the euro will be a dissaster for Poland, pushing up costs, inflation etc

My company used to purchase in the region of 1 million metric tons of coal per month which was good business for poland, however I was forced to leave, my company now purchases its coal from indonesia as this is where i am based currently,

The uk really is one of the best and safest, modest and free spirit places to be it, I would really like to extend my appreciation to the british people as they really are a great nation, no wonder why they are accepted in any country....

Asians are particularly disliked in the Uk and are regularly targeted in race hate attacks. I have heard it is unsafe to take a train in Poland - is this true?

I have often travelled by train and never had a problem, Poland is a much safer country than Canada. If you compare the crime levels of both, both serious and petty crime you are from a nation that is probably close to 10 times more dangerous. I know because I have experienced Toronto first hand. Just keep an eye on your luggage etc and you will be fine.

What should I NOT carry around with me?

Passport, large amounts of cash, just as you would behave at home

How do Polish people view Canadians as?

Im Irish but live in Poland. From what I can make out the Poles are indifferent to other nations, but dislike loud Americans. As for Canadians Im sure you will be treated with the same respect as you would be anywhere :)

First of all Irish people (Im Irish and we rather like the Poles, but hate retards like you) drink double the amount of vodka and spirits, as do the British (fact)

Secondly sausages are lovely, especially Polish kielbasa . . delicious. Im not sure why you think sausages are an insult, that in itself makes you seem hillarious. You big, um....yeah you big Cabbage (are you insulted)

Thirdly the Polish contributed taxes to any other countries they live in, many having worked abroad for years. If they then loose their job because of the recession, they have every right to avail of social services and reclaim their taxes back.

Im not sure how you think Poles are nigros, but considering you seem retarded and are most likely trying to lick your elbow right now . . I forgive you for being duch a dope.

The majority of threads are wrote in english, and a lot of the topics dont just relate to Poland. Given that the majority of 'non' Polish people here are either

A, living in Poland,
B, have lived and worked in Poland at some stage
C, have Polish friends
D, have Polish partners

I fall into all of the above categories, so thats why Im here

It's an old tradition. You can see old men in Poland still kiss women's hands. It's something like shaking hands but a little more affectionate. But it's rare among younger people these days.

Ive been living in Poland for almost 2 years and I have never seen a Polish man kiss a womans hand. I just said this to my Polish girlfriend and she has just laughed at the suggestion Polish men kiss womens hands, although she said her grandparents so it with friends occassionaly. I suspect he is being funny and exaggerating the notion of male charm. I often kiss my females friends hands but it is fun, and I assure you it isnt an irish custom either. Polish men treat women in no more a complimentary way than men anywhere, with the exception of perhaps some extreme islamic nations :) Just ask him out, what have you got to lose ?
