Life / International Press in Krakow [14]

At the airport in Katowice I was also able to find a french car magazine, but I am specifically looking for Dutch / Flemish magazines, and going to Katowice for a magazine every week is also not the most ideal option :)

Life / International Press in Krakow [14]

Hi,
Does anyone know anywhere in Krakow where you can buy international newspapers or magazines? I have tried Empik but they only have Top Gear in English, and I would like to find some other language magazines or more interesting items.

Any tip is appreciated!

Real Estate / Rules for buying property in Poland as a foreigner. Recreation houses? [8]

Goodday,

I have been living in Krakow for about 2 months now and I am renting a flat.
Because of the high cost of this (double the average netto salary in Poland), I feel that is would be more useful to buy an apartment then to pay the loan of someone else each month.

Are there any regulations for non-Polish residents when it comes to buying property here (like for instance being resident for x years before being able to buy something).

I don't see how letting prices can be so high here in Krakow when you take the salary in consideration.

Anyone who can give any advice on this subject, would be highly appreciated.

Travel / Parking in Krakow [9]

Well, if you have foreign plates, like I have Belgian, the policja does not have an agreement with Belgium concerning the exchange of vehicle registration details, so they can write you a ticket, but never find out who the plate belongs to, since Belgium does not supply this information to Poland, so the only way they can make you pay, if by clamping your car. I usually get a "informacja" note instead of a ticket when I park in a wrong place, like in Kazimierz a lot.

Life / COMAPRING POLAND PRICES WITH PRICES OF OTHER COUNTRIES [10]

I find housing very expensive here in Poland compared to countries in Western Europe, the rent here is outrageous, maybe because I am in Krakow, but for example food, cigarettes, electro is cheaper here...

Life / Who has moved to Poland in the last year? Swap stories. [115]

I moved here about 2 months ago to come work for an international company and so far I must say I like it, it's a change to my country of origin (Belgium) but I really feel at home here, nice food, cool clubs, only thing that bothers me from time to time is getting things done by official institutions like city hall, car registration, etc...

Life / Deadly Roads - "Are polish roads really THAT dangerous?" [139]

What do you expect?
Driving on the roads here is like riding a rollercoaster at a themepark...
Humps, holes, bad surface...
Sometimes I even feel like I ran over a camel while driving!
I wonder what PL does with the european funds for road infrastructure...

USA, Canada / Will residency be lost after marriage breakdown? (Canadian married to Polish) [8]

Any more news on residency after divorce?

Just go back to your country and stop using marriage as an excuse.
If your marriage went bad, too bad, but stop wining about it, go back to where you came from and rebuild your life you had, if you don't want to, put some effort in the relationship, Polish girls have feelings too and are not the worst at all!

Life / Moving Back to Poland - some advice required about the move. [4]

I am even looking on sending some stuff over seas (shipping to Poland) but not sure if it will be worth it.

Hi Ladii,

Welcome to the forum first.

I moved to Poland a week ago and wanted to ship some stuff like furniture too from Belgium, but when I looked at the cost, it was not worth it at all, since you have to pay for every km that the goods are transported.

When I moved from Ireland back to Belgium, I used the help of an overseas shipping company, however, I shipped two pallets and only one got here, the other one, I am still waiting for (since july 2006 now).

So my advice would be, try to seperate the things you really need from the things you want to take with you, most of things are available here too and the purchase price is far below the shipping price.

I hoped I helped you a bit, if you need more info, let me know!

Life / Belgian moving to Krakow, need practical info [38]

Hi dxx I am on your way to krakow. What is your first impression about krakow?

How much do you spend food, rent, other expenses?

I am planning to arrive in krakow in November and I would like to find apartment or roommate upfront, can you advice how did you find yours?

First impression is very good, nightlife is great here, people are nice, girls beautiful :)

Food is not that expensive, everyday life is quite cheap here, u can get a very good lunch for about 10 euro, u can also have one for 3 or 4 euro, depending on what you like!

I found my apartment on gumtree.pl, try to rent from a private person, since the agencies charge you a lot for nothing!

Good luck and see u in Krakow!
Do Widzenia!

UK, Ireland / a trip to Dublin at Christmas? [30]

I am considering visiting Dublin at Christmas. Is is a good idea? What kind of place does Dublin turn into at this time of the year. Dubliners:) how do you view this?

Dublin is a great place to visit all year!
Around Xmas, stores have sales, lots of lights & happy people, nice atmosphere...
But be aware that on christmas day there are no pubs open!
Also, the trip could turn out more expensive then assumed so make sure you have the money for it, since life in Dublin is very expensive.

Nice places to go are Wicklow mountains, or just the city centre (stephens green, rathmines, henry street, st stephens mall, ...), or the seaside in Howth or Bray, all worth seeing...

Hope you have a lot of fun!

Regards from an ex-Dubliner :)

Life / Well You visited and/or lived in Poland, tell us what its like. [41]

Ok, I have never been to Poland.
I have never lived there either but I am moving there in less then one month to live.
So all posts here are quite useful for me too, thank you!
The Polish people I met here or in Dublin are all very nice people, always helpful, always in for a good laugh and that's als why I chose Poland to go and live.

It's not the most "common" place for Western people to go live, but it's a challenge, and in the end, isn't that what life's all about? I rather regret the things I do then the things I didn't :-)

So bring it on, I am ready :)

Work / Access to Live in Poland to raise my son [13]

Just moved to the states having a Diversity Visa. got it now ?

I feel so bad for that woman, men like you give all men a bad name...
Just stay away from Poland and give that woman the reason to rebuild a normal life, I think after all this, she has had enough trauma already...

Real Estate / Letting agencies Krakow [11]

Those letting agencies are just scams.

Like I said... :)

and deal with the tenants on your own.

Quite hard if you don't speak any Polish, also because none of the sites like gumtree are available in English...
