History / Russia tells teachers to lie to students about "Katyn" [139]

The Americans came in on the other side lesser, they moved from the north of France.

Exactly, Hitler could not concentrate on eastern front. One cannot underestimate influence of American supplies to the SU.

Kasparov is bad-mouthed and I doubt he has something to offer himself, unless this is euro-socialism. Bukovski on other hand is a class act. Still, both of them are politically irrelevant in Russia.

Get a grip man. Stalin was heavily assisted to victory by the Polish AK plus the Allies. Without Polish assistance, the Red Army would have fallen to Hitler.

Although activity of the Polish underground helped them much, holding German transports much longer or even forcing to travel avoiding Polish territory, this is too much to write that without their assistance the Soviet would fall to Hitler. American assistance was much more helpful.

History / Aggressive Germans pushed out pre-Poles [35]

Crow must be married off to a nice german girl, so they can have a big pan-slavic-germanic family. Then they can settle in Lusatia and live happily ever after, just like the storks.

This is better proposal, I admit. The problem here is that all nice German girls are of Slavic origin. If Crow would marry one, I think he would consider her rescued from the hands of villains.

News / Abkhazia and South Ossetia are independent states now! Poland reaction? [236]

HA-HA-HA..... If you want to learn what it is (double standards!), you should apply for the help to White House and EU.

Those of us who can read, could read above how I accuse the west about double standards.

If a member of some group/family stole your pocket and because of this you feel justified to steal pockets of people whom belong to this group/family then you are also an ugly thieve like him.

If let's say Pole likes Russia (s)he's pro-Russian and biased but if (s)he likes the US, then (s)he's just another fine Pole.

No, it depend how would you define this "liking". Also this is not about nationality. Hypothetically, if a person without national identification try to justify (without any particular personal interest) misbehavior of some state it means that he is biased. Hopefully we both agree that 'biased people' exist?

The participating States will respect the territorial integrity of each of the participating States.

The participating States will likewise refrain from making each other's territory the object of military occupation or other direct or indirect measures of force in contravention of international law, or the object of acquisition by means of such measures or the threat of them. No such occupation or acquisition will be recognized as legal.

Seanus:

On the contrary my friend, Russia had the right to do this.

You are absolutely right, Seanus.

By the way, I could not say the same about Kosovo.

Long live Russia and their nations!

You even don't hide your pro-Russian bias. You clearly accept double standards.

News / Abkhazia and South Ossetia are independent states now! Poland reaction? [236]

On the contrary my friend, Russia had the right to do this. They have stood by for too long and let Kosovo and Iraq happen. Kosovo and Iraq were never Allied territory, Georgia WAS once part of Russia, Stalin was born there in fact.

They don't have the right to do this, neither the west had the right to recognize Kosovo. I find it funny how European and American politician hypocritically forbid Russia acting in this manner. They raise exactly the same arguments that they completely rejected when deciding about Kosovo. Question arise from what directions should trouble-making countries like Russia take example if those whom declare themselves to be champions of justice are in fact an obvious liars. If they don't respect the rules that they wrote themselves, how we could expect that developing countries will stick to this?

How about ordinary voters whom supported Kosovo independence, do they learned something or still wait for more to come? Take it for granted!

News / What's your favorite Polish political party? [13]

- Privatizing many public sector operations, including health care.

Hardly possible. Privatization of health-care in their vision would cost us even more. They would still tax us heavily and additionally tell us to pay "some undefined amount of cash" if medical help is needed. Privatized hospitals (for example) would still deal with government and such contacts create corruption.

- A 15% flat tax.

This is their old election slogan, that they already abandoned. Later I heard about higher flat tax rate (21% ?) and this would cost average Pole more than today.

- Decentralization to regional governments in Poland.

Actually they are transferring competences of national government to Brussels. Thus this is rather EU-wide centralization.

- Keeping the Zloty.

They want to bring euro, just with little delay (2012). They don't raise this topic often, because it would not attract many voters.

- Educational reform.

What reform? They wont change much more than canon of books that students need to read obligatory.

- Making Sejm smaller and removing parliamentary immunity.

Smaller Sejm? No way, this mean lesser posts for their people. About the immunity, every opposition always raise such idea but when they are in power their desire decrease.

i like how speaks that Jan Lopuszanski of that Polish Catholic political party.

He is rather out of politics.

PiS overall has a good economic and crime fighting platform

They are socialistic about the economy. Their tendency to extend bureaucracy causing a lot of corruption. When PiS run Poland, they created Anti-corruption Bureau. One of the most pathetic ideas I have ever heard. However perfectly fits to their mentality:

Bureaus can fix every problem!

History / The RONA butchers in Warsaw 1944. [22]

So you think my friend it makes a perfect excuse for 10 000 Russian heroes from RONA ripping 8 years old girls, killing everybody except regular troops ?

However, in most cases the reference is to 1,700 soldiers of the Waffen-SS Brigade RONA (Russkaya Osvoboditelnaya Narodnaya Armiya), a Russian collaborating force headed by Waffen Brigadeführer Bronislaw Kaminski. The RONA brigade, at the time of the Warsaw Uprising, was comprised mostly of Russians with Belorussian and Ukrainian minorities. Most were volunteers, ex-POWs, and Red Army deserters. In addition to RONA, German forces included some units formed with volunteers and ex-POWs from various Soviet Union ethnic groups: e.g. Cossacks, Kalmucks, and Azerbaijanis (Bergmann Battalion).

News / Political polls are FAKE and totally manipulate the public! [19]

all polls are independent and most are scientific.

In Poland it often happens that newspapers supporting certain political party provide polls that fit to their wishes.

i feel they are valid but i don't necessarily think they actually influence many in the long run.

Don't underestimate the influence of polls. Polls are always favorable to the strongest competitors. The best examples are parliamentary elections in European countries. Especially polls published at the end of election campaign highly influence some group of people. According to the theory, in democratic countries people vote according to their views. Polls deform the results, because large group of people start voting on 'lesser evils', sacrificing their true views. I think that representative democracy is a huge scam but even this model practiced in vast majority of countries is far from being optimal. All of this is caused by the lack of proportional ordination, popularity of election thresholds.

News / Will Poles fight with pride alongside The Gay Army? [22]

To a certain extent, yes. I mean, how should those people find a date (Just like straight singles!) if everything about sexuality should remain a closed, and private matter?

They have their places for sure, after all such public parades are rare (at least in Poland).

the right of being able to be open about their sexuality when asked without recieving abuse of any kind..

If one act stupid in a public place, he deserve somebody tell this to him. That is universal true.

News / Will Poles fight with pride alongside The Gay Army? [22]

How they could be proud of being gay if they claim that this doesn't depend from their choice? It is simply stupid. I think the same about public parades devoted to issues linked directly with sexuality. This is clearly a private matter.

News / Poles honour 'Cold Warrior' Ronald Reagan [92]

Reagan, like Thatcher, had a very good poor concept of social justice. Strikers seek to redress the balance.

What is the diffrence between 'justice' and 'social justice'?

If this is the same then there is no sense to add word 'social'. If this is not the same, it means that 'social justice' is a code name for 'injustice'.

News / Poles honour 'Cold Warrior' Ronald Reagan [92]

Hey I'm sure that the Reagan administration kept the pressure up, the pressure that had been set decades prior by people like George Kennan. But that he kept the pressure up was not enough to win the cold war. Usually, when a country begins arming itself against another, the other country follows suit, witness today's botched efforts to 'intimidate' Iran and North Korea. Well the Soviet Union reacted in a similar way - that's human nature. As much as the US cranked the heat, the Soviets folowed suit, as they were paranoid that the US might actually launch an attack, possibly, a nuclear attack in the wake of NATO's Able Archer military exercises in 1983. These exercises simply provoked a like reaction.

Actually the Soviets were those 'bad' in this case and they tried to extend their destructing influence over whole world using various methods to reach this goal. They armed themselves because they wanted to be stronger than anybody else. Reagan administration did well joining the race, because it helped to bring Soviet regime down faster. Americans could afford this while the Soviets couldn't, so this was a brilliant tactic.

The change came with Gorbachev, who was apprently of a more peaceful complexion then his predecessors. His peaceful overtures formed the crucial catalyst for the Cold War's conclusion. He came equipped with a philosophy of glasnost ("openness"), perestroika ("restructuring"), demokratizatsiya ("democratization"), and uskoreniye ("acceleration", of economic development).

Your image of policy of the Soviet Central Committee under Gorbachev is completely false. You have bought all their propaganda destined to western world, nothing like above really happened. You should read the account of political prisoners whom lived in this country. Where did you read that all of this really happened? This source contained any details of such policies or only such empty slogans?

Also, Soviet apparatchicks are not any reliable source information.

What else would a Russian say Masks??

I read about many Russians whom have very positive opinion about Reagan politics. However none of them was a Soviet apparatchick.

The CIA suppling stingers to guerillas in Afghanistan

This was a very good idea. You don't seems to bother about the Soviets imposing their policies on people whom did not wish this. While American supplies to anti-communist forces are supposed to be wrong.

hat would be unwise, as Reagan extended his reach to the middle east, Africa, and South America, where he can boast an atrocious record of murderous, counter-democratic actions.

Since when communists whom always claims to be 'democrats' should be really considered 'democrats'? How could anybody still believe this propaganda?

News / Poles honour 'Cold Warrior' Ronald Reagan [92]

Chemistry can't be bought...either two people have it or not! Sometimes cash helps to smooth things over but never to make people like each other...

I would not use this term seriously in this case. When cash is involved, we don't really know whether they like each other. I used this term sarcastically.

News / Poles honour 'Cold Warrior' Ronald Reagan [92]

but Schröder and Putin did!

I find this interesting that you seems to be glad that the PM of Germany was in Kremlin's pocket. Cash behind people backs is known to improve chemistry among involved individuals.

Gorbachev was a thoroughly reasonable man who kept the sharks within his own administration at bay. Perestroika was a landmark concept which he laboured hard at to bring to fruition.

He was a double faced person and his official stands did not have much of affect on politics. Vladimir Bukovsky raised this topic in his book "Moskiewski Proces". Perestroika was a myth for sale for naive westerners. In fact opposition was not tolerated, process of militarization was in progress and dirty provocations against western states were still practiced. Do you know that the Soviet Union secretly financed strikes of coal miners in the UK?

"speak loudly against it"? That makes him a hero? Anyone can do that, it's all a matter of convenience, when it is convenient to do so, and when it is inconvenient to do so. Rhetoric is nothing, the soviets had their own rhetoric for sure.

Many can speak loudly indeed but just few have common sense and Reagan was among them. He increased political pressure on Soviet regime this deserve some respect. Unlike majority of European leaders whom never had such courage. Reagan also needed to face masses of loudly ignorants in his own country.

Apparently he wasn't during his presidency, he was held low in popular esteem, but over the years the neo-cons in the US have been deifying him, they've organized a massive PR machine to, among other things, make Ronald Reagan into a saint.

You are not only in historic denial but also joining the neocons in mixing historic issue of Reagan's presidency with current politics. Myself, for sure I'm not under influence of any neocon propaganda and still give him deserved respect.

The downfall of the soviet union was the result of decades of work from American administrations, as well as dogged home-grown resistance in the east, like the solidarity movement in Poland for example (Few government can thrive for long when domestic resistance is overwhelming).

You are wrong. Downfall of the SU was just direct effect of bankruptcy of communist pseudo-economy. Any other issues could just improve the speed of collapse.
