Kaminski and his Russian Waffen SS troops were fully involved in mass killings of civilians - the heroes were rather useless in regular combat.

RONA was founded (as militia) by Constanine (Ivan ?) Voskoboynik.
His classmate, the German-Polish engineer Bronislaw Kaminski (former volunteer in the Red Army during the Russian Civil War), was elected deputy commander.
Some names of commanding officers: Galkin, Tarasow, Turlakow, Proshyn, Filatow-Filatkin, Frolov ...
Guess what was their nationality ?

However, in most cases the reference is to 1,700 soldiers of the Waffen-SS Brigade RONA (Russkaya Osvoboditelnaya Narodnaya Armiya), a Russian collaborating force headed by Waffen Brigadeführer Bronislaw Kaminski. The RONA brigade, at the time of the Warsaw Uprising, was comprised mostly of Russians with Belorussian and Ukrainian minorities. Most were volunteers, ex-POWs, and Red Army deserters. In addition to RONA, German forces included some units formed with volunteers and ex-POWs from various Soviet Union ethnic groups: e.g. Cossacks, Kalmucks, and Azerbaijanis (Bergmann Battalion).

I suggest you better make some search through your belongings.
Quite possible you will find jewellery or watches with Polish inscriptions.
Must be a common finding in Russian families.
