Life / Biedronka - retail chain in Poland [48]

Spot on Osioł, they sell NZ white wines at discounted prices. Drops well worth quaffing on the weekends. Sorry, how could I be so uncultured? ;) For sipping :)

Life / Biedronka - retail chain in Poland [48]

They are very similar to LIDL back home. LIDL is here too, I know. Their own brands are quite decent, cheap and cheerful until the doctor's visit comes round ;)

News / Why is Tusk still Polish PM? [67]

I wouldn't say that I was knocking Tusk. I merely said that he had failed to make his mark. Enlighten us wiesiek, what has he done of note?

If it means anything 2 u, I prefer him to Jarosław Kaczyński. I'm not anti-Tusk, I just feel that he has made some errors. The missile-shield being one of them.

Life / Talk-sex in Poland...are Poles really prude? [44]

Are they really prudish? It depends. Many on the younger ones aren't, the older ones tend to be. Just like everywhere really.

On a relative scale, there are more prudes here than in ur average European country. Holier-than-thou characters can easily be found.

Life / Biedronka - retail chain in Poland [48]

Poland has less unemployment than the UK, OFFICIALLY. Unofficially, who knows? Also, if 2 million Poles returned, then the situation would look rather different.

Biedronka, nice store. There is one not too far from where I live. They have some good products at affordable prices.

News / World's Next Great Cities - Forbes. Warsaw 8. [22]

Mainly Chinese, no surprises there. Very up and coming. The Scottish cities weren't on the list because they are already great :)

Budapest deserves to be way up there. 3rd slot, pretty good.

The ones that lure them back to Poland Grzegorz ;)

Come on, a bit of moral support for the man

News / Why is Tusk still Polish PM? [67]

Good point Crow. Tusk has really failed to make his mark. OK, he has created some conditions to lure Poles back to Poland but he has been insipid in other areas. While I believe that it will be a highly incremental process for many Poles to enjoy the wealth that many Brits and Germans enjoy, Tusk has done little tangibly to bring about a highly prosperous Poland.

£ukasz posted a number of interesting web sources about Poland becoming more advanced but this was largely in the private sector with outside investors. Tusk needs a major policy initiative that is instantly recognised as being effective. Otherwise, he will just continue to trundle along as an unspectacular leader.

Maybe it's not a bad thing tho that Poles carve out opportunities for themselves. U know, the self-made person. Sometimes it's easier said than done tho. Has Poland turned the page enough?

Life / Polish bureaucracy - it went to a new level, they ask to pay for search [21]

That's right. Dual nationality is allowed.

Well hairball, I was told that, in order to change my status as a submitter of bills when contracting with companies to a VAT operator, I'd have to pay a fee of 170PLN. It's a technicality. My financial advisor was adamant that I had to do it, now he has changed his mind and said that I don't have to. Wow, what confidence I have.

I'm happy with the way it is.

News / Writing Polish letters on Gadu Gadu please help! [16]

That's very true. They actually laugh at some of the pron. Like dziekuję. It sounds ridiculous when u stress the ę too much. I was at a meeting today and they were joking about it.

The thing is, when u start using/to use the marks, and u miss a few, u r picked up on it. Either use them all out or not at all seems to be a sensible approach.

News / The most useless things in Poland [140]

Electric sockets, that's a good one. I and some of my friends have the same problem. I pray every time I touch them that I don't get electrocuted.

Get ur razor blades online Dazza, they are much cheaper

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

I'm well aware of the harsh times of the Irish. I used to discuss it often after work with my Irish friend.

Emigration was much easier after May 2004. Emigrating can be risky and costly too. Set up costs can be quite high.

Work / Is there jobs for a beauty therapist in Poland? [28]

Joking aside, this can be a valuable service for women. It is sad that such places tend to attract vain ladies but it can be for many. Those who work with the stars must attract a small fortune.

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

I like to think of it as justice being served. Although I don't like the means, I like the end. Poles have slaved their guts out for peanuts. It's time that sb at least tried to redress this imbalance.

The EU has made this bed and they must lie in it.

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

The world is rapidly moving in this direction enigma. Who has what and who should have what are 2 very different things. Taxes are high and I like to think that the majority of taxpayers wouldn't condone such actions as u alluded to above. It's not the Poles that are stupid for claiming this, it's the lawmakers for neglecting to follow common sense and allowing this situation to come about

History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

I just wanted to provoke, sorry, an emotional moment. Seriously tho, conditions here were not favourable upon graduation. Those that were grounded in reality found out the hard way that their hard work at Uni wouldn't pay dividends. They decided to leave, sensibly using an option they had.

A lot of new opportunities have popped up so let's hope that many find what they are looking for.

Love / Polish Girl ruining my sleep [30]

Rise above that!! Live a fantasy, otherwise you will be disappointed. Many girls from all over the world go abroad for whatever reason and betray their partners (guys too of course). Let her go

Ignore her!! Don't flatter yourself that she 'flirted' with you. Play games if you wish, I don't.

Work / Living on the certain income in Poland [30]

Bolek, close to bollocks that, wouldn't u say?

Dark Ages, LOL. I pay 750 ALL IN for a central flat in Gliwice. Very nice it is too. I got taxed 16PLN on 4200PLN last month, lol. When I was earning 5600PLN, I got taxed around 800PLN, 1/7th as I said. The tax office said that the figures checked out. So did my private financial expert. It was always around 1/7th with no fiddling. Go work that one out genius

Further proof that some people here are just full of crap. The only report I'd trust on anything connected with salaries here would be an independent, external one.
