Life / Legally changing my Polish name to English one? [55]

I was asked at my final, citizenship interview if i wanted to change my name and I said no, even tough it were tempting since my first name is rare and not easy to pronounce. I felt it would be disrespectful to my my parents. They gave to me, it's mine for ever. I go mostly by my nick name in american environment and I'm fine with that. I use it longer than my real first name already, it feels quite real now.

My first name is mostly "on the paper" and only a handful of polish friends call me that. My family calls me by my middle name... :)

Who knows, it might even deter an identity theft attempt. What crook would want to memorize my spelling. Hehehe.

Love / i Have been dating a polish guy for 2 years and i NEED help [10]

What about the boyfriend? Can't he talk to his mother to give you a break? You are his choice not hers. Two years is a very long time to put up with this kind of treatment. If he can not defend you know, he never will.

Life / Polish Radios that play good Polish music and English rock music? [19]

So, I had a chance to listen to the PIN station a couple of times. It's nice. I have it on now. There are some english, french, italian songs besides polish. I don't know any of the singers, some sound jazzy. Good voices, good music. Adds to my variety...BTW, it is also on radiostacje.com and you don't need to sign up to listen...Warszawa PiN 102 FM

UK, Ireland / British throwing food to trashes... [26]

why waste the postage? there isnt a town in britain now that you cant get Polish products in......

I have to agree with this one. And, why not make your own? I'm sure the ingredients are there...I would not want any sausage, pierogi, bigos etc, which was in transit for hours, out of the fridge. Nope, thank you.

Don't they do it in the UK? I thought Poland also has a tax on top of the price, if remember correctly since the last time.

lol. I bet the ticket actually says $4.99 :) and tax "doesn't count", just the price of the item. Tax is a given. hehehe.

News / The most useless things in Poland [140]

Wouldn't it be a big business in Poland if the window screens for bugs were introduced? Especially, in new homes? Such a little thing, but a huge improvement in quality of life indoor on a nice summer evening.

Bathtubs without a shower curtain and hand held showers drive me nuts too. I totally flooded my cousins bathroom the last time...
Luckily, most of my family members have them or they installed a shower cabin...
Another thing, there are no waste baskets in the bathroom. No place to dump my hair removed from a hairbrush but the toilet bowl, blow you nose and that's where you throw away the Kleenex too. Doesn't it get stuck at some point? ( I will not mention 'other" things) :)

Travel / Places to visit Poland for the New Year? [30]

Even pubs get booked up.

People in Poland really know how to celebrate New Years Eve (Sylwestra). It's pretty boring here comparing to that...

Life / Is there Christmas shopping madness in Poland? [8]

I enjoy Christmas time, but I'm sick and tired of full parking lots, full stores and Christmas commercials already... Is Poland, as well as the whole Europe and other parts of the world so much into shopping for gifts as we're here in the US?

Life / New skyscraper in Warsaw... [58]

Times had changed a lot for the good. I remember how excited my uncle was when they built the Hotel Forum in Warsaw!
He had a watch repair shop close by (Nowogrodzka). Worked well for the business for him then!

Food / No Bagels in Poland (even though they were invented in Krakow :/ [11]

See, there goes the whole theory of Jews in Poland. No bagels. So not fair.

I feel bad for you, that you can not find them there. I have a few frozen in my fridge most of the time. Excellent, when defrosted and toasted. I know what you miss and I'm not even jewish :)

smoked salmon and cream cheese on bread just isn't the same

Totally agree. Sorry.

History / Should Germany claim to be the victims in Poland? [510]

BBoy takes his typical approach (like in past), no facts, just quotes, copy and paste from nazi websites plus some nasty, personal attacks. He is just a messed up young man. Luckily, a minority. He does not know how to talk, debate, convince, have a discussion..etc. That's OK. If that's a young "Germans" attitude and thinking, well..Germany is lost, and that's good for Europe and the world.

z_darius, you waisting you brains on him.

BBoy - shame on you

History / Should Germany claim to be the victims in Poland? [510]

So, Bratwurst Boy..are you going to date or marry a girl from "western" Germany or she would not want you? Just curious, what you think about the East and West Germany today. Is it true that you guys don't mix? I read an article in some magazine some time ago and it got me courious...that's all. How the "west' Germany is looking down on the 'east' Germany. You mention Berlin in your profile, is it east or west? The physical wall may not be there, but what about the psychological?

Why don't you take care and "fix" your "eastern Germany brothers".... I hear, people from "west' germany wil not even marry anybody from former" east" germany... hehehe
