USA, Canada / VISA TRAVEL TO USA [32]

It doesn't make a difference as they would still have to apply in Poland (unless they are British citizens)..

really? I never knew that. I just thought you could go to the embassy here, or just book a trip and the travel agent would sort visas for you. Oh dear, well there goes my surprise trip to NY :(

Not true. Applying in the UK is just fine.

Oh, Ok. well some conflicting advice here, but I hope the cat is right.

USA, Canada / VISA TRAVEL TO USA [32]

what about Polish people who live in the UK going to the USA for a holiday? My partner wants us to go to NY, but seems to be convinced that he wont get a visa. We havent tried yet, but I didnt think there was any problem with getting a holiday visa, esp. now Poland is in the EU. Am I wrong about this?

UK, Ireland / The best place to live on my own in the UK? [57]

That's Eastbourne.

yes you are right about that one too. a mate of mine lives there..he is a psychiatric nurse and is raking it in on the night shifts at the numerous homes there. Just hands out a few pills and watches TV all night, while the care assistants do all the crap jobs.

UK, Ireland / The best place to live on my own in the UK? [57]

sorry BW, I admit the beach is nice, but it does have a reputation as a retirement place. I spent NYE there once, stayed in a very boring hotel and went to some pubs where there were some very dodgy individuals, so it put me off. I still think the Wolverhampton roundabout is the best bet, and its very economical.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

As for Walkabout bars, I can only comment on the Walkabouts I've been to over the past three years (Covent Garden, Wimbledon, Islington, Durham, Temple, Putney, Shep Bush, Shaftsbury Ave, Nottingham, Edinburgh and Wigan), and there were Australian staff in all, plus in several there were also Kiwi and South African staff.

Nothing like integrating into British society is there? :)

Life / The romance of an unknowable country ... Poland - my story [35]

I cannot imagine that a book on this subject would sell. Strange you should make that suggestion, Sapphire, because I write and publish books (I write women's history) but I have never published any of my own memoirs. (Or perhaps you Googled me and knew I own a publishing company?)

I didnt google you, I just admired your style of writing and thought it would make an interesting book. I really think you should do it, judging by the reaction on here it would definitely sell.

News / Polish people reactions towards the last elections in Poland [59]

I agree with you randompal, but Greg is renowned for his homophobic outbursts and we are not going to change his mind.. now whats that saying about those that protest too much...............

Greg, it would be nice to know just how gay people are abusing others freedom by holding a parade. Surely people are free to watch/participate or not? I heard your dogs were gonna be there.

When Poland starts doing better economically (which should happen soon), all of them - yes, all of them - will go back home, none will stay

sounds like you will be rounding them up and forcing them to go home.. who are you to say that ALL will return? I for one, dont want them all to go home.

Law / Interested in a starting a night club bar in poland [14]

ffs... some Polish people like to go out dancing and drinking dont they? If you dont like nightclubs then dont go, but unless you are going to become a politician and get them all closed down, then why bother????

Love / I miss my best friend [22]

sorry to hear your story.. heartbreak is terrible, even if it is you who made the decision. From a female perspective, I agree with Miranda.. if it were me I would not want to see you as a friend, at least for a long time, if at all. Time is a great healer and when you have both moved on emotionally maybe you can rekindle the friendship side, but in the meantime if you are unable to offer her anything else then I would keep well away until she feels ready to see you again as you both need time for the hurt to subside.

UK, Ireland / Polish tramp dies in Wolverhampton. [17]

i have just come back from Wolverhampton and heard that he got a new tent and other essential supplies every few years from local well wishers. Also he got food taken to him 3 times a day and medical services etc... apparantly he never once gave a word of thanks. Dont know if he spoke English, but sounds like he had it pretty good compared to most homeless people, no wonder he stayed there so long.

Love / How to get to know a polish guy better? [102]

LOL. Well I just meant be the boss in the kitchen, but obviously its a personal preference and if your man is a better cook, then let him do it. I prefer to do the cooking, but I dont mind if he wants to get involved in washing up... and the bedroom obviously speaks for itself :)

Love / In love with a Polish teacher... [83]

sapphire, how would meeting his wife make things worse if nothing is going on bewteen him and I?

try it and see. I doubt she will be stupid enough not to see the infatuation you have for him and it may place suspicions in her mind, that dont need to be there if its entirely innocent. Grow up and get a boyfriend.

Love / My girlfriend thinks she's pregnant! Pomocy!! [75]

I realise that my opinion may not be popular...but here it is.

If she is pregnant, please go ahead and have the baby. It's not hard to take care of one child.

I have a bit of experience in counselling post-abortive women. Nearly every single one regrets the abortion. And I am not lying when I say that for many it ruins their life.

The "operation" is not as easy as it seems. Some women are permanently scarred from having this vacuum cleaner stuck up them.

Please think of this precious child's life. Life is a gift. You would be so unwise to refuse it.

sorry, but I totally disagree with this. You may have some experience in this matter, but every case is different, if she is pregnant and neither of them feel ready to have a baby, for whatever reason, then there are several choices that they have and they need to think these through carefully and decide which is best for them. I dont think that scaremongering stuff from pro-life campaigners helps the situation.
