News / The most useless things in Poland [140]

ZUS, why? I must admit, I do question why I fork out over 300PLN every month. They are not very helpful in issuing conditions for claiming but I got a good service there once before.

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

Well, they may buy land in the US, just shared with 9 other people. In parts of England, there have been periodic inspections to check that the occupants are suitably maintaining the property and are interested in its upkeep.

I just don't get it, how Utopian can people be? Really, British life isn't all that special at all. When I watch documentaries of English towns, I think to myself 'how dreary'. They seem to prefer having a small room to 4 people, using sleeping bags. Is Polish life really so bad for them that they can't have their own room but have a job that pays less? This is the crux of the matter.

News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

The whole idea of communism was to carry it out as it's not a moderate idea. It's quite extreme for many people. Karl Marx wasn't rational?

Not all socialists are corrupt, true.

OK, a deal was made with Euro-socialists. If you were in power at that time, how would you have shaped things differently?

News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

You prefer the last communist government but you are right of centre, lesser. Something not quite right there.

Who doesn't have dirty hands these days? So, he destroyed the image of economic liberalism. That's nothing compared to how communists destroyed the pure rationale of communism, now is it?

UK, Ireland / Outlanders, a film about Poles in London [5]

I've been trying to access that website, watch-movies-links.net

That might have it but it is inaccessible at the moment, dunno why.

USA, Canada / Polish Vodkas for American Pub [49]

Vodkania sounds very Russian? It sounds like Anglicised Slavic language. It's just a suggestion Lir, proferred to Sledz who may or may not go for it.

Better than Willy Shafters or the Korean offering, Fuk Mi ;)

History / The movie Defiance is a big lie (heroes that saved Poland suppored communism) [102]

WB said that you guys were perceived as the white scum of the earth, he didn't say that it was his opinion, now did he?

He also said that he didn't care for Jews and Pakis. Experience has likely taught him that but that doesn't mean that he is racist. Not caring for a race and systematically laying into them for their racial traits and beliefs are 2 different things.

I find your views beguiling at times, lesser. Much of Europe is capitalist. As one of my smartest students told me, the system here in Poland seems to be socialist when they take a large portion of his earnings away. However, he also alluded to a rise in capitalistic practices.

Why do you take issue with Balcerowicz?

History / Jewish love towards Poles [389]

Let me ask you this, where do you see this on a daily level in Poland? How does this 'hostility' manifest itself? I don't see it frankly.

Poland is not a country like America where the media plays a huge role. It's fine to have reservations tho, I agree there.

Life / Moving back to Poland after 20 unhappy years in Canada and USA [70]

When I say dead-end jobs, I mean jobs with no progression such as cleaners and mundane office jobs. Limited opportunities for CPD. When I said dead-end jobs, I had in mind the Polish attitude towards them as outlined in the various documentaries that I have posted. THEY see it that way.

My personal view is that many jobs serve a social utility function. Where would we be without our scaffies/rubbish collectors/trash disposal (Scottish word) and sand gritters in winter? Even those who work in the PO play an important role in the social fabric. Just because the job pays lower, doesn't mean that it doesn't need to be done. The same goes with troops abroad. The old adage, 'it's a dirty job but someone's got to do it' applies here.

As a final thought, I really believe that tolerance is needed. Sometimes, I have to teach lessons where I know that it'll be a tough hour ahead. Still, coping mechanisms allow me to ride the wave. There are bad parts to most jobs but as long as our characters are compatible with the job, there's no real 'bad' stress.

Life / Opinions about Radio Maryja [134]

I don't hear much about Radio Maryja these days. They've been hushed up :)

It is probably more socialist, yes. Balcerowicz, under the tutelage of Wałęsa (1990-1995), introduced free market initiatives and reformed communism with a few strokes. Change had to be seen. However, hyperinflation was a tough nut to crack, hard to contain.

Yes, Asian states have more competitive stances and more potential.

News / What does Poland mean to you? [66]

Poland also means some of the best home-made food in the world. My fiancee's mother was across today, supplying me with out-of-this-world soup and meat. Legendary!!

History / Col.Jozef Swiatlo-Secret agent, torturer, CIA-collaborator to be tried? [145]

We witnessed the same in Britain. Labour were supposed to be a left-wing party. Look at what Tony Blair did there. He shifted across and slapped a new label on, New Labour.

I studied Critical Legal Studies more (CLS) which looks at the synallagmatic/symbiotic nature of law and politics. You know more than I do on this issue in Polish politics.

Ultra-conservative is code for virtuous and overly righteous. I'm not too quick to call them devout Catholics, more just moralistic and overly paternal at times.
