News / Yitzhak Shamir - prime minister of Israel with anti-polish sentiment [41]

Now excuse me, I have to get back to my elders of Zion meeting. Passover is coming up, you know, so we need to secure some plump Polish children to make matzas with their blood... Yum, yum, Christian kids' blood... mmmm...

Making a Jew openly confeess making matzas out of poor innocent christian childs blood. Check.

Now dear Yannai, what do you think about Jews killing Christ? ;)

Food / Russian pirogi ("pierogi ruskie") or Polish pierogi? [15]

Some time ago I read an article, written by Makłowicz ( if i remember correctly) who stated that pierogi most likely came to eastern/central europe with the mongols from the far east. Similiar thing happened with the sour cabbage(kapusta kiszona). This dish has been adopted and throughout the centuries modified by the four named earlier nations. I doubt that one could actually trace the exact place of origin of that dish but what we know for certain is that it has been part of Polish, Belarus, Ukraine and Russian cuisine for centuries. I think that all four nations claims are valid. Still I would be interested why do you think that pierogi are strictly an Ukrainian dish. and not say Belarusian?

PS: I'm from Wielkopolska and truth be told my grandmother tried pierogi for the first time only few years ago. It was never part of our regional cuisine and I must say that pyzy with kaczka po poznańsku and kapusta modra is my favourte polish dish. mmmm :) Pierogi are also nice though. ;)

Food / Russian pirogi ("pierogi ruskie") or Polish pierogi? [15]

actually i beleive they are an invention from Ukraine

Aside of Poland and Ukraine there are also Belarus and Russia that claim pierogi to be their national dish. Truth be told all those countries have the right to do so. As for the "pierogi ruskie", they are as much russian as "ryba po grecku" is Greek. Just to make things clear, there is no such thing as "ryba po grecku" in Greek cuisine. :)

UK, Ireland / 90,000 Scottish Immigrants in Poland! [67]

Interesting. My childhood best friends name was Wala. They knew for certain that this name has been altered by their grandfather and prevoius to that change it was spelled Walla. Whether this was the original they didn't know. Since we live near Poznan I just thought that they may have some Scotish ancestors. Is the term walla an english term?

UK, Ireland / 90,000 Scottish Immigrants in Poland! [67]

The Scots had large numbers in Poland a long time ago, being largely settled in and around the Poznan area. We also fought alongside the Poles. I don't think immagration really exists, immigration for sure

Could the surname Walla be a Scotish surname by any chance Seanus?

There is no evidence! I suggest u don't use derogatory terms when refering to gay people it's extremely rude!

Weren’t you the author of the sentence that one can say everything to anybody no matter how offensive it can be? You know, the whole welcome to adult world, etc thing? :)

Life / I feel the gay rights movement is constrained Poland [90]

Just a thought, You marry a woman, she has to have a hystorectomy, does that mean your marriage is non catholic and you can dump her non reproductive arse?

Non catholic? Dump her arse? Where did you get that from?

So going on the fact that 96% of Poland is Roman Catholic surely then Gay people will be outcast or constrained and have their human rights taken away. I'm not going to go into my own personal opinion on 'gay' or 'gay marriages' as its not relevant to this topic. However i can see why gay people may feel constrained in a country with a high percentage of 'roman catholic' population.

There are no human rights constrained for gay people in Poland.

IF you are the one who thows the first punch and u end up winning in a fight there is no way u would win in court!

And I always thought that being adult meant taking responsibilities for your actions and words and not insulting people and hideing behind the law.

Don't be such a girly-man Rocky. :)

Life / Are there many atheists and agnostics in Poland? [47]

Well let's see, yesterday and today I have to deal with the complete inconvenience of not being able to buy eggs for breakfast because of a Catholic holiday.

Interesting? Would the situation bothered you equally if it was a non-religious holiday? Or are you just against any holidays and for the right to buy eggs everyday in year?

History / Comment on YouTube regarding Powstanie Warszawskie [32]

I don't think that isthatu actually disagrees with that. He just stated the obvious, that without the Red Army’s help the Germans wouldn't be out of Poland in 1944. Nor in 1945. Nor in the 50's…

Without the Red army Poland would never have been free of the Nazis.

Never say never. It is one thing to conquer a country and another thing to actually keep it.

Life / Goth scene in Poland [30]

You too? Greetings! ;-) Wasn't it loads of fun?

Greetings to you too. In deed, it was loads of fun, but I started to listen to punk rock in the mid 90's. The first years of wild capitalism, unemployment was high, Jarocin was just cancelled, after the fall of communism punk rock was in retreat and searching for other enemies one could revolt against and continue to exist. Thus the explicit popularity of all the antiglobalist (pardon me, it's now called alterglobalist), Marxist, animal-, gay-, women-rights, anti-racist, anti-fascist, anti-church, anti-whatever movements in the punk rock world.

The awakening came one day when I realized that listening to the bands like Piekło Kobiet (Women's Hell) or Crass was not the best way to spend my leisure\re time. :) There was no rock and roll any more present in punk rock. It was to serious and eventually people that claimed to be against any dogmas and considered to be free thinkers created their own dogma. What a pity. The same with Oi and HC. I'll stick to my T.Love, Ramones, Manam and Misfits records, thank you. :)

Yeah, punk rock can be dangerous. :) And I totally adore Adam and the ants!

These year seems to be special for moi. I already am a lucky owner of a ticket for The Police concert in Chorzów in June and I just cant miss Sex Pistols in July on Opener Festival in Gdynia! Woohooo! I'll have to practice my pogo steps though! ;P

Life / Goth scene in Poland [30]

Seriously though,in a partialy stone age/gene huntesque sociaty where gay people get beaten up by the Police and stoned by skin heads just how many lads are going to wear eyeliner and black lipstick?

lol Now how did I survive here being a punk rocker as adolescent?

As for the initial question, the scene is almost non-existent. Quite frankly, for some unknown reason, it was never strong. Still, there is an interesting festival that you might want to check in July.
