Love / Need advice with Polish girl, I like her but she has a boyfriend. [114]

It is repulsive and disgusting behavior and idiots like the OP pursuing someone who is not free to be pursued **** me off.

She must be really cute and fun and the OP must be terribly alone. The OP probably has no other prospects, no other Polish women to date and he want's to be with someone who's Polish so he is clinging to her.

News / POLAND'S POPULATION IS SHRINKING... [62]

Why do you think this is the case? Is this a favourable or unfavourable development for Poland?

I don't think it's anything to worry about because this number will stabilize. People are having fewer kids in industrialized countries because they have access to birth control and have choices about when to have children and how many. "Family Planning" is an option and people don't have as many kids because of this. It's no surprise the populations are declining because the average size of a family isn't as large as it once was. The third world is more populated but the quality of life is much worse.

News / New York Post : "Polish" Death Camps and more [278]

All true but remember before you get too aggravated...it is The New York Post. It has a trashy reputation anyway. The editors probably allowed it to stir controversy. It's that kind of paper.

News / New York Post : "Polish" Death Camps and more [278]

New York Post article penned by ISABEL VINCENT and MELISSA KLEIN, dated July 19, 2009, entitled "300 NAZIS STILL GO FREE IN AMERICA", commits historical revisionism and slander via biased reporting full of errors.

Here are three segments which need to be corrected:

"Mykola Wasylyk of upstate Ellenville, who ran a Catskills bungalow colony renting cabins to Jewish visitors. He served as a perimeter guard at the Trawniki labor camp in Poland."

Trawniki labor camp did not exist in Poland because Poland as an independent nation did not exist on the map of Europe after being occupied by the Germans and Russians. Trawniki was a German built labor camp located in German occupied Poland.

Yes yes the topic the topic! I am sure the women who wrote this article have recieved many complaints about the misinformation. Not sure if the paper printed a retraction.

However...

Anyone notice which paper the article appeared in? The New York Post which is a tabloid-like sensationalist rag anyway...

Life / Poor people / street children in Poland? [34]

Ah I should have known...Polish expats/descendants are even more nationalistic than the ones who live here or who were born here.

The reason I responded to your post is to tell you that it's not that uncommon. So many times I have been asked for cigarettes. It's not that rare. That's all.

I don't know where you have lived but I have been around the US and people ask me for them, others for them. It's called "bumming stoges or cigarettes" around these parts.

UK, Ireland / Scotland encouraging immigration. [90]

Welfare is for those without any other form of income.

That's not true. Welfare is when the government gives out benefits of any kind. Some of them I agree with but I don't think the government should give people money or benefits for having kids. This isn't a good idea.

Shawn H what will happen is there will be a period of decline for a while but the population will stabilize once the average is two or two point five kids for a few generations. Then you won't see this "decline". If you give people incentives to have more kids, you will see a decline in the future if the population decides to go back to two, on average, again. See how they are setting everything up to become unstable?

Basically, it's for those in work and not earning a sufficiently high enough wage in order to raise a family.

Haha, that's welfare. You should have the amount of kids you can take care without the help of the government. There's no real need for people to have huge families. Two is perfectly fine and governments should encourage people to have two and not many more than that. Kids take a lot of attention, love, money, time. Most parents can handle two kids without any problems or help from the government.

The province of Quebec provided a variety of incentives (cash, tax relief, subsidized day care)

That's what's called "welfare" and it should not be used to get people to have kids.

UK, Ireland / Scotland encouraging immigration. [90]

incentives should be put forward to encourage the birth rate in scotland.

The problem isn't with the birth rate in Scotland. If it is declining, it would be temporary anyway. It is a symptom of something else. You have to ask yourself why the birthrate declines in the first place?

Why should people have more babies just because of incentives? I never figured that out. You shouldn't have a bunch of kids because of greed.

The most important thing needed: two people who have the desire to deal with a huge family. It's stressful and demanding. You have to live up to high expectations, too. This is the reason people can't handle it and don't want it. It's not like it once was, when ten brothers and sisters worked the farm for their parents.

That is why the population appears to decline when it might not actually be in decline for long. Two kids per family is a perfectly reasonable expectation and most parents can give two children the time, love and attention they need.

Life / Leroy Merlins Price Protection [41]

about this price protection that some ppl here don't seem to understand. How does it make sense to return an item(heavy/bulky) to the shop, get my money back then go buy the same item at a lesser price, and take same (heavy/bulky) item back home when all it takes is a little paperwork, (what doesn't in PL)

Do they have "price protection" in the first place. If they don't that reply is perfectly understandable. No one has come to the store wanting the discount refunded so there's no protocol concerning procedures. It's a logical conclusion to reach if you haven't granted any refunds like this before.

That's why shopping around is important first.

Seanus, it's not about shopping around. Leroy Merlin put the same unit on sale a week or so later, after he bought one at the higher price. Over here you can take the receipt to the store and get the difference back if you catch the item on sale. It might be a uniquely North American phenomena which is why people should quit expecting everyplace to be the same because everyplace isn't.

Oh come on, you have to admit it is kind of funny. If someone suggested I do that, get the unit and bring it back, I would laugh and make a joke of it.

Was there a contractual agreement stating

Some companies do have that guarantee...if something goes on sale within a certain amount of time the customer gets the difference refunded. I've heard of that.

You misunderstand, Harry. They are saying the communist government was foisted upon them by the Soviets and the deal with the western countries and if they had their way they would choose something else so the communists weren't really Polish, but Soviet.

News / POLAND'S POPULATION IS SHRINKING... [62]

Zimmy, that might be what Europe ends up doing, just like the US has done, to make up for population deficits. They encourage mass immigration to even out the numbers.
