Hmm....(scratches head).

Ger off!
if you have a head to scratch, get your own!

Um, ok, I hope we are on the same wavelength here.

Frequency Modulation?

Have you perfected the art of making those Amazonki? ;)

Nope but it would help if i knew what you were going on about, as I is a far way from the Amazon.

I see very little variety tbh. Different faces, same opinions on so many things. How's the cloning going, SeanBM? ;)

Long and hard ;)

UK, Ireland / England, Dirty, Expensive and a dangerous place to live? [205]

How would you feel if you had to suffer because of what your great grandfather did?.

Do not expect empathy/sympathy from us, if you are going to ask not to suffer for what your grandparents did, if you are going to boast about their achievements.

You can't have it both ways.

News / Poland Remembers start of WW2 [200]

you are Polish and Poles often have

You may be so pathetic that you have to define people by where thier parents had sex. No, cancel that: you clearly are so pathetic that you have to define others by where thier parents had sex, but not everybody is as pathetic as you.

Life / Scammed in Poland again [49]

Ive got nothing to say to the little chap really unless he comes knocking at my door again

His dad might demand that he goes to you, apologises and does more work than you originally agreed for the betrayal.
Ah to be young and stupid :)

I doubt that will happen but anyway...

Life / Scammed in Poland again [49]

What about Mossie Keane ( Roy Keane's dad ) who used to turn up on a daily basis at funerals just for the free sandwiches !!

And maybe a drop of the black stuff ;)

the young ones doe not honour any type agreement, is this the way society is going?

:)
I think ever generation says that about the next, no?
It usually starts with "In my day....." includes something about how politicians used to also be honourable and respecting your elders...

I dont think so just some little shite thinking hes pulled a fast one with no idea about the big wide world he'll be back to face the music thats for sure.

Yeah, If you know his father then that's it.
He is just a stupid kid, all kids are stupid, I am sure if you think back you can think of plenty of dumb stuff you did, I sure can.

I am not making excuses for the little bugger, he's gotta learn sometime.

Life / Scammed in Poland again [49]

The real scumbag scam is those lower than life scammers who look in the obituary for a funeral.
So they know when you're out of the house because you are going to pay your respects to a dead family member or friend.

And they come and rob your house while you are out.
That is one of the lowest of the low.
They were doing it in Ireland years back but I am sure it is not just an Irish phenomenon.

if you give them food you'll see them in a while throwing it all into a litter bin just outside the house ...

That has happened to me Mum.

I give cups of tea and coffee and maybe a sandwiches sometimes, especially when it is cold and the person is on the street.

Life / Scammed in Poland again [49]

Whahaha i have met one other German guy, with the same story. Ilarious, but i didnt fall for it.

It is a pity because it messes it up for people who are genuinely in trouble.

saying: "we have not had beer for 2 days, please help us!"

There are a few lads around juwenalia (students week) in Krakow, who have signs asking for money for beer.
Actually a lot of tourists I have met admire their honesty.

of course, in North Korea, we all work for the glory of the state so money is not an issue, we don't know these strange problems you seem to have.

Ha hahaha!

Of course but the communism imposed on Poland has a hell of a lot to answer for in my opinion, how else do you explain many common issues picked up by foreigners here?

I think this is an interesting topic, I was thinking of starting a thread on it.
The simularities between ex-communist countries.
As a lot of people on this forum seem to think that ex-commie stuff (like bureaucracy) only goes on in Poland.

Life / Scammed in Poland again [49]

It reminds me of when I lived in Amsterdam, there was an English fella, who had a suitcase in one hand and an old ticket in the other.

His story was that he got mugged and was too late for his train and needed just enough money to get a new ticket and he would of course send the money back to you.

Yeah, I saw that guy there everyday.

Never trust the bastards,

Who the Polish or guys, you don't know, who come to you looking for money?

I avoid doing any sort of business with people here as much as i possibly can its just far to risky,

So you work for someone else then.

Must be a social problem from the communist days.

What airy fairy world do you come from?
Scams happen everywhere.

I would have made him work first then pay

That would certainly have been better.

I have not been scammed yet in Poland, touch wood.

Real Estate / Avoiding tax when selling a flat in PL [19]

I think that if you have lived in the flat for more than 12 months you are exempt from CGT.

I believe that is in England not in Poland.

Real Estate / Avoiding tax when selling a flat in PL [19]

If you bought before 1.1.2007 and sell within 5 years of buying it, you pay 10% of the profit.

Yes.

And if you reinvest that profit into something in Poland, within two years, you will not have to pay capital gains tax on that sale.

Just remember if you do this, you will have to notify the Polish Tax authorities.

Edit* Wroclaw Boy said it first, I must be getting slow on the draw in my old age ;)

UK, Ireland / Moving to england from Poland? I'm making a documentary [23]

But Maybe it was just my experience of nice polish people...maybe they have their bad bits too...

Yes, they are human and have faults just like the rest of us.

I just thought was a better culture than uk of drinking and clubbing every night...

But that is only an aspect of the culture in the UK and there is so much more, personally I love the theatres and museums.

Some of the greatest minds like Darwin, who revolutionised the whole of humanity and the music.
There is also knife crime and binge drinking but that can be avoided, to a large extent.

I think you should come to Poland, tickets are cheap and have a look.
As I mentioned Poland has many different aspects and you can focus on positive or negative.

Perhaps you would be interested in the £ódź film festival.

Also Poland made some fantastic films in the past, you could take a look, just use the search function at the top right of this page.

UK, Ireland / England, Dirty, Expensive and a dangerous place to live? [205]

That would be fair enough seanus if it only affected the people of the time.

You are talking about the British Empire's colonisation of other countries.
How would that be able to affect the rulers of the time?

How would you feel if you had to suffer because of what your great grandfather did?.

I would agree with you but then I look at your user name.

UK, Ireland / Moving to england from Poland? I'm making a documentary [23]

I think I am naieve...I just met so many friendly polish people in my office about 35 people...all held doors open for eachother...and other things...so much more emotive...that is why I want to portray it...I want to show people in england that they are nice...

I think you need to get out more.
In the wise words of SeanUS, some are and some aren't.

english people know about english youths that are involved in crime so showing this would be nothing new to them...

Hahaha, wow, English youth are just criminals hahaha.

I just want to show polish people...and the nice countryside, coming to english city that isn't so pretty to work hard...

I think we all know what you mean, you have met some great Polish people and think they are cool.
That's great and perhap you should start off with interviews.
I will assume you are English and therefore see the problems of society in England and see it as negative.
In fairness a lot of people are overly critical about their own country.

Have you been to Poland?
You should come, there are very many different elements and your "naivety" might make for an interesting watch.

It doesn't matter anymore I'm getting to many people arguing with me now (except you shaun I think) :) ...

Ah, don't worry, it's the internet and this is a discussion forum.
I think this might be a good place for you to iron out the details of what you are looking for.

UK, Ireland / Moving to england from Poland? I'm making a documentary [23]

All I'm trying to do is make polish people nice...

Why?
Why not show Polish people as Polish people, nice, nasty and more to the point normal.

it doesn't matter what I film in England...

Your whole project is based on Polish people going there, so it's very important what you show there.

I know alot of english are nice...I'm trying to make both sides nice

Why???
Why not just show both sides as they are, warts and all, why do you think you have to show people as being "nice"?

Edit*
If that's the case, why don't you just come to Poland and make a documentary about Poland, as it seems England does not really count in your documentary?

UK, Ireland / Moving to england from Poland? I'm making a documentary [23]

Maybe It would be safer just to talk to my polish friend about it...or do a story based on most facts

Ah, Safe documentaries are no good ;)

I am sure that if you contribute to the expense of driving from here to there, someone will drive with you.

The important thing here is the language barrier, you will need a translator.

it needs to be showen that poland is nice because people here are narrowminded

I don't know how English people perceive Poland.
Could you tell me the general opinion about Poland there, please.

I will make it how it is...

Yes of course, it will make it much more interesting.

UK, Ireland / Moving to england from Poland? I'm making a documentary [23]

.Is there anyone coming to england to find a job and travelling in a car from poland to england..

This is not very clear to me.
You are looking for Polish people who are going to drive from Poland to England to find work?
Are you planning on following them or are you inviting them to where you are?
Are you going to pay the people for this?
Do they have to speak English the whole time?
Will you have subtitles?

Poland is pretty and in fact england is the worst place if anywhere and that's what I'm trying to show.

Why are you trying to show that?
Both England and Poland have ugly and cold places as well as wonderful and beautiful places.

Life / Finally moving to Poland (Krakow or Kielce). Cheap places to stay and a job. [8]

So if anyone knows any cheap places to stay

I would recommend finding a place straight away.
Krakow is a student city, they will take everything, so the sooner you find a place, the better.
I don't know how good your Polish is (you must learn the language) but try gumtree.pl for places to stay.

or any jobs thats going

That all depends on what you're willing to do.( said the bishop to the prostitute).
Depending on what education you have and what languages you speak means a great deal about what you can do here.
Do a recognised teaching English course before you come, I don't know what they are these days but there is loads of info on that type of thing on this site.

Best of luck.

Life / FALCONRY IN POLAND.....anybody know anything about it...? [5]

I am very well, thank you.
Wow, I see, that is an incentive to learn about it all right.
There are plenty of birds of prey around here (south of Krakow) and towards Zakopane.
I have not seen anyone with them though.
I will keep my eyes open, as things have a habit of appearing once you look out for them.
Great to have you back!

UK, Ireland / Exploiting Polish Workers by the UK businesses [90]

A french man, drinks wine, eats fine cuisine, ( works hard but only has one child as that is all he can afford to provide for)
A sub-saharan man, drinks water (if he has it), eats raw meat, (no source of income but has 9 children)

Which culture is better?

An English man, drinks ale, has many fine musicians, ( works hard but only has one child as that is all he can afford to provide for)

An Irish man, drinks water (if he has it), eats raw meat, (no source of income but has 9 children)

Which culture is better?

Life / Religion in every day life of Poland [2]

Hello edith,
And welcome to the Polish Forums.

I am Irish and have lived in Poland on and off for years.

I will make my own attempt at answering some of your questions with my own observations.
I am sure someone will be more than happy to point out if I got it all wrong.

"Would you say that the Virgin Mary or any particular Saints are important to your practice of Catholism?"

The Virgin Mary is said to be the queen of Poland.
Also you should know about the Polish custom of "name days" (wiki).
Name days are still celebrated but not as much as they used to be, they used to take the place of birthdays.
Now birthdays are more widely celebrated and name days are for the more mature generation.

"Do you give offerings to the Virgin/Saint; if so why?"

There is something very interesting that happens in Poland every year hundreds of thousands of Polish people walk from various locations all over Poland to pay homage to the en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Madonna Wiki ( a very holy religious painting of Mary).

Some friends of mine just came back from such a pilgrimage, which was coordinated by thier local priest, they walked for about 35 Kilometres a day and stay in houses in villages on their way.

It took my friends 9 days to get there.

I live near Krakow and there are some magnificent churches here, from many different architectural periods.

One of the main differences I see between Catholicism here in Poland and what it was like living in Ireland growing up, is that in Poland religion and politics are separate.

Communism tried to destroy religion, which made the people become stronger through their faith.

Every Sunday people flock to the churches in thier best Sunday clothes.

The RCC played a big role here in Poland during communism, it appears that part of the communist trick was to keep the people suppressed, this was done in many ways both in mind and in body.

My friends were a part of a church movement that would not drink alcohol in a kind of passive resistance against communism.
If you are sober you can make changes.

https://polishforums.com/history/poland-communism-fell-years-ago-led-35430/ - for a very in depth look into the fall of communism in Poland and what role the Church had in it.

I don't have time right now but I will add more of my observations on this subject later.

Life / HOW WIDESRPEAD IS RECREATIONAL DRUG USE IN POLAND? [30]

I think some clarification needs to be made.
Alcohol is a recreational drug, smoking cigarettes can be.
Smoking marijuana, sniffing glue and smoking crack are very different from each other also.

Perhaps a more precise question from the original poster would enable us to discuss this better.
"Illegal physically addictive" drugs are possibly what you are talking about?
