Real Estate / Market Report - RICS 2008 Poland Housing Review [25]

small developers will go bankrupt this year

already happening. there is one developer in a small city i wont name that has built so many developments that there is an excess of 500+ flats unsold. he is in debt, still building and has had to significantly slash his sqm price on new builds.

oh well

Life / Shopping for Polish brands/labels [8]

Are there any good outlet malls/stores in Poland that have some of the Polish brand stores (Reserved, CROPP, etc.)

there are large malls in most major towns and most of them will have shops for the better know polish clothing brands.

never heard of henderson

poland is not that much different from america, some people are cool with it, some people are not.

i just hope theres no rude ******** in poland staring at me and my wife because shes white and with me.

if this is a problem for you then you need to prepare yourself for it. it may not happen everywhere but the chances are it will happen

I just hope this time he doesn't tell me he's spent it all in a strip club... again

tell him he is now homeless. tough love and all that. it might encourage him to take responsibility for his reckless ways. plus it will be a laugh to see the look on his face

Life / How to deal with rude rich Polish people? [65]

I know lots of wealthy Poles in Warsaw who are arrogant pricks

ive met these people too. a laughable bunch and not hard to put in their place.

I suspect if the authorities scratched ever so slightly below the surface 98% of these guys would be behind bars anyway.

or up to their eyeballs in debt

on the other hand, i know some very comfortably off people in the tri city but there is a difference. these people have stayed in the tri city and largely made tmoney here through their own endevours, capabilities and hard work. they havent been drawn to the bright lights and promise of wealth in warszawa.

they mix with a broad cross section of society and are as happy mixing with impovorished art students as they are with wealthy western busness men. they tend to be highly cultured, well educated, well travelled and speak a high level of english. i enjoy spending time with most of these people and am lucky to count them as my friends.

Life / The nations Poles don't like (stats) [55]

Like there was on another thread, there needs to be a separation between people and government.

it is correct and fair to seperate people of a country from their government. its also correct and fair to say that many people in a country are represented by their government. there is no separation for some.

when i saw the list above i tried to compile a similar one for the uk and ran into difficulties.

what countries are disliked by people of the british isles?

Study / anyone with CELTA? [73]

i am a firm believer that you learn to teach by teaching - the more practical experience the better. obviously this not something an online course can provide although it can offer a valuable component in a blended learning programme

Study / anyone with CELTA? [73]

well...

there is no such thing as a 'TEFL' - it stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and you can get qualifications that allow you to do this.

the CELTA is the cambridge certificate. it stands for Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. it is considered by many as the leading TEFL qualification

you will also see TESOL. this stands for Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages and you can also get qualifications in this. the most widely recognised is the Trinity College London Certificate in TESOL

both courses are more or less the same - little to squable over. there are, however, a number of different providers who will offer you one or other of these courses.

when deciding which course to take you need to look at the recognition of the provider in the location you would like to teach. go for one of the more recognised and try top avoid joe bloggs 2 week online distance tefl/tesol certificate.

then its really just a choice of choosing a course based on your time, location and cost preferences

Travel / The Tri City: I can see why you live here [17]

I really enjoyed reading your description of the Tricity!

thank you Jova, glad you recognised it :-)

I think it's the best place to live for someone who appreciates both the city life and closeness to nature.

its a wonderful place to spend time as you say, especially during the summer. im a water-babe so having a choice of 2 coastlines plus endless lakes is bliss for me
