Life / Why are Polish people so ruthless? [87]

No, some women have funny turns like that. They get guilty for having played the field against their boyfriend and then shun the other before it is too late. Let's ask him for more details then.

You are second guessing a person and that's not fair. You can't join the dots when you don't know how. Many don't declare their status and that is lame.

UK, Ireland / Why are we paying child benefit in Poland? [63]

This is the anarchy they seem to want. They want debts and for the ruthless to continue to make grotesque profits. The middle class will have to learn how to fight.

That's what he has encountered so far, TM. He got good deeds thrown back at him and I can't understand why many people are taking issue with him. Some snotty little girl dished the dirt on him and he has suffered. Why the harsh line?

How on earth can you take that position with him, Greg? Why should he suffer from some girl playing him along? I always want to know the relationship status of sb so that I don't tread on toes. Playing him as she did is the sign of an immature slapper. She likely did her poor princess act and exaggerated anything wrong he may have done. I know where he is coming from and, based solely on his story, what she did was chamstwo.

I'm watching a presentation by Brian Gerrish who speaks on Common Purpose. Go to Google Video. He is a noble English gentleman, the kind that I respect. He alludes to many factors which are impacting on our government and its operation.

Cultural Marxism at the moment. He is not PC and he states this from the outset. Yet he is a fair and balanced gent.

He has just covered one of the most critical of issues. National sovereignty, as championed by Thatcher, under attack from the globalists. For Brits, their loyalty to the Queen will be tested as she is at the centre of the debate.

As for benefits, the globalists want so many to pay so that the taxpayer goes into debt and we descend into chaos. More mixing means more call for supranational government, not the governance of our own nationals.

Life / Any tips for a first-time Expat? [13]

New Jersey, nice, Bon Jovi territory :) Ask your wife about działalność gospodarcza. It's your own registered firm. The sooner you set that up, the better. It'll mean that you can contract directly with businesses here.

I live a couple of blocks from the rynek too. Please PM me where and I'll let you know about that place.

It's all about timing in getting a job here. There are many schools but you need to take a direct approach with them. Even then, it doesn't always work.

Some are and some aren't, Arien. You can't get away from that fact.

Anglikman, keep fighting the good fight. I've had a little experience of foreigners abroad and their manners seem to go out of the window. In Japan, I told some of the foreign guys to stop being ******** and start showing some respect.

Cameron surely wouldn't have been so generous with benefits, unless he was paid off to serve a pan-European agenda by the federalists. Brown doesn't appear to care as much as Tusk does about being voted back in in forthcoming elections. He knows his fate!

What part of America are you from? I knew a guy from NYC here and he loved it. Others came from big cities and they enjoyed their stay. There are some Americans here who would be happy to show you around. The foreign community is quite decent in Silesia.

One American here is having problems with bureaucracy but that's only because the way of doing things in America is different on that point. He has been able to get things done generally.

It is possible to get lonely in Gliwice. This is where I live and it can get that way but it comes alive in summer. The market square is bustling with activity and the city seems much better.

Any specific questions? I'd be happy to answer them. I'm Scottish btw. I've lived here for just over 5 years.

Very good post, Avalon. It is the fault of the government and not of claimants who are aware of their rights. The British government wants a bigger role in regulating, now we see it. You also didn't make the mistake that many Brits and others make that the Poles should be the same as us, to pay out in similar fashion. They don't have the money to be a fully-fledged nanny state.

Socialism has its merits but all I need to say is Animal Farm. They can get quite good payouts, I discussed this with my wife who has a friend who claimed there. I hate the crisis being used as an excuse too, Avalon. Some friggin crisis when you can afford to be Santa Claus every day of the week.

Brown was taken to task on this but he prevaricated to his best ability. Cameron grilled him in the HoC and he just sidestepped his questions. I was never a big fan of Thatcher for many reasons but she would have stood up to EU bureaucrats more and not created so many dependants.

Sound advice by PP and Justy. In business, pick a country and you will find ruthless types. Japan, Nigeria, America or England. It doesn't matter. If you don't have strategies for dealing with the ruthless, walk away.

I know what dnz means. There are many who are like that in bigger cities. It's dog-eat-dog oftentimes.

Love / Why are Polish girls constantly ill? [166]

Negative emotions can really make you ill quickly and that's why I avoid them. I guarantee you that, if they were more positive, they wouldn't be as ill.

How about a four-leafed clover symbol like a shamrock? That would be a nice gift for her :)

He was making a point, trotter. The point was that those nationals that he stated haven't yet done that to him. He wasn't contesting their European status. Why can't he expose the bad sides? Life is about experience and some people need to get their heads out of their asses and see that there are Polish women who are really nasty! (yes, just like others)

There is a harshness that can be seen quite readily amongst some. It depends what you are accustomed to but I'm from a perky family that jokes and is light-hearted and educated. When I saw their biting behaviour, it reminded me of some people back home. The Poles, like most people, are a mixed bunch. There are many here that, like you, I'd really help and would happily spend an afternoon chatting to over tea and biscuits. Some real humble gems that are modest in their humanity.

However, I know the type you mean. They have had to fight for very little over the years and this has made them rugged. They'll dig their heels in and often be brutally frank and boorish. Most of the negative attitudes towards Poles, in my experience anyway, comes from Poles themselves. They do have what I'd coin as a 'squeezing' culture. They sap the life out of people and drain the positive side. The reasons? Communism, deviousness and anger at being contained for so long. Just look at many now, grabbing money and adopting the 'I'm alright Jack' attitude. Still, I don't associate with such people and will have nothing to do with them. The lovely people I'm in contact with here are the ones that have raised the enjoyment of my stay and deepened my appreciation of their hospitality.

Just ignore them. They are away from home and they are fighting with their natural instincts. They were likely raised as moral Catholics but we see all too often that that is going out of the window amongst the younger generation abroad. Keep your dignity, mate!

It's in my nature to be kind but I've learned to follow what my mum always taught me, namely, 'you have to be cruel to be kind'.

Language / Dostał buta - genitive / accusative [25]

Zdzichu is the name of one of the taxi drivers that used to take me to companies. That's what everyone calls him as the nominative form. Jasiu, I know that one well ;) ;)

Geez, laddie, it's a Godsend. It keeps you fresh and alert. Without it, football and teaching would be a hassle. It keeps you with it and in touch.

Propolis? Check Colgate. They have a herbal propolis toothpaste that seems to do the trick. George Bush and Tony Blair swear by it. Those honourable souls ;0 ;)

Tak, słuszałem. You must remember that some girls go D/C as well as A/C. Sausages exit the equation sometimes :)
