Western Europe and America vs Russia WWII - chances of Poland being saved

Looking at this map you might think that there are no Polish Americans
while in reality there is 10 million such American citizens claiming Polish
ancestry.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_American

Distribution of Polish Americans:

There are plenty Polish Americans but they might have said they were Caucasian while people with a German grandparent marked "German" because of that.

It's from the 2000 census which means people who aren't German could have put German anyway which just means they are caucasian.

Then why did they call all the light blue'ers "German" and not "European" or "Caucasian"?

I rather think the term "American" was used for those general europeans or caucasians...

Then why did they call all the light blue'ers "German" and not "European" or "Caucasian"?

A lot of people with a German grandparent or two like to talk about it, boasting, sorta, so they want to put the info on the census form. If someone has an English/Scottish grandparent they are less likely to put "English/Scottish" and just say Caucasian without being specific.

I would classify them as caucasian mutts. There might be a few who can trace each parent's German roots and can honestly say they are completely German but most prolly just have a German grandparent or two.

"European" is good enough for me too...

...but still interesting! :)

If you believe there are 50 million people of 100% German ancestry in the U.S. then send me some of the pixie dust you have so that I can hallucinate too.

The following is typical; my ex-wife was 1/2 German, 1/2 French but my (now grown) kids consider themselves Americans of Polish ancestry. Yet, I'm certain that they are counted as German by some bogus German-American census taker. :)

As to the map, I've never seen any as misrepresentative. (It's also noticed that Poles only live in a one county in Pennsyvania). I've traveled the mid-west extensively and indeed live in Chicago and little did I know that I was in some Germania.

Ah Germans, exaggerate everything by at least two.........

It is interesting. Sasha, thanks for finding that map! I just clicked on it and it's very detailed, county by county. It's interesting. B.B., you'll be happy to know my county is light blue :p

Still, there's something fishy about that map. Some of those states in the northeast are completely Irish and Italian. I don't get that. It doesn't look that way up close. And what, exactly, does "American" mean. Can that mean any ethnic group found in the America but just doesn't want to admit which one?

Of course, Zimmy knows best! Why don't you complain to the US census bureau?
census.gov

I wonder why they all didn't say "polish" as they were asked...feeling so much more comfy with...

Be careful...after scrappy you are surrounded by Nazis!

I don't know about that but I do live in a mostly white suburb. That part is consistent with the info on the map.

It seems also most german-americans prefer the rural plains to the big cities...farmers folk mostly..

Better stats and distribution (incl Poles):

census.gov/apsd/cqc/cqc14.pdf

Interesting....most aren't mixed...

...
Most persons reported only
one ancestry group;
however, a
substantial segment reported a
mixed background.
Nationally, about
60 percent of the population reported
only one ancestry; another 30
percent also wrote in a second
ancestry. About 10 percent did not
report any ancestry...

Sasha, thanks for finding that map!

You're welcome. :) Sorry I forgot to mention it was clickable. I saw someone already posted alike map on PF.

I didn't know there were that many whites left in America.

Not so many... The Mexican and Afroamerican population is prevailing on the south.

EDIT:

And what, exactly, does "American" mean

From my perspective this is likely to mean "not defined". Yes, the term doesn't make any sense.

Of course, Zimmy knows best! Why don't you complain to the US census bureau?

I just called the bureau and some guy named Klaus Kadiddleschmidt answered and put me on hold. Then I was finally connected to a Mr. Hans Schultzbuerger who put me on hold.

Finally, a lady named Ulrika Rottenberg was able to tell me that there is no bias at the agency.

Gotta go, ............let's see, I'm on my way to Schaumburg, Illinois now...........

Not really BB. Caucasian people from all Ethnic nations are fleeing to the suburbs to escape the crime in the big cities. Our large cities are turning into Ghettos strewn with drugs and crime.

Last Saturday night, there were five murders in Chicago. Very much like Turkish neighborhoods in Germany.

That I do believe. It seems like most of the blacks are in the south. There's a lot in the Northeast too which is why the statistics puzzle me. There must be more Italians and Irish than blacks.

Places in Illinois and Michigan have a lot of blacks too.
My state has only one black county and that's a bit surprising.

B.B. the people who claim German ancestors like rural communities but the problem is, it's hard to make it in rural areas these days because of commercial farming so they live in suburbs that are mostly caucasian and provide access to decent schools, universities and good paying jobs. Rural life is getting tougher and tougher.

Yeah it does suck what they did but you have to forgive them at some point and move on or you have the same things happening again and again. You don't have to be the best of friends but at some point everyone has to let go of the past, to some extent, and get on with the future

100% right

Hee-hee, you'll be happy to know, B.B., my state is green in that link you provided meaning German was the major ethnicity in 1990 :P

Sasha, that's good to know because after I posted that, I wondered how it would be recieved. I thought "uh oh, that was a faux pas I just made".

I was under the impression Caucasian was enough of a description but I think I will start being more specific.

(We should just take over....)

Uhhh no, you and your crappy food and stupid oompa should stay home, where you belong. We don't need you getting a wild hair and suddenly what to wipe out short people who aren't blonde or some other retard bullsh.t. Who knows what your capable of.

And just because there's a lot of Americans of German descent doesn't mean jack sh.t. They LEFT GERMANY. That should tell you something. Nobody wants to immigrate back, even now that the sky is falling (or so the European sings).

My question about your ancestry was no more but curiosity.

Polish (Gramdmother from Lodz) / Irish. What about you? Russian could mean many things.

Hey isn't the Russian word for foreigner actually German? I read this somewhere once.

What really amazes me is Irish is so under represented. There are lots of Irish. I thought there were more Irish than German in the US.
