I have often been to polish peoples houses and been served a cake that is like a heavy sponge cake with a layer, or even just fruit dotteed about inside it (usually strawberries or raspberries, but sometimes apple or rhubarb). It also sometimes has the sweet bread-crumb type sweet stuff on the top (is it called kruszenka?).

Anyway, does someone have a recipe for this cake? I really like it :)

hmmm... no, it looks different - i think it is usually done in a rectangular tin and it doesn't have clean cut layers like that...

Here"s the recipe: I'll post it soon. Company just stopped by o.k.

(Placek z owocami)

1 1/4 cup butter
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 cup sifted flour
1/4 tsp salt
chopped almonds
Beat butter with 3/4 cup of sugar; add eggs, one at a time, alternating with flour, beating after each addition. Spoon into well--greased and floured 9-inch pan. Sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar and chopped alomonds on top. Bake at 350* for 30 minutes. Can also, be baked with fruits like plums, blueberrries or topped with apricot or ther preserves.
