Yes it is sad that in the UK the flag represents extremists rather than people who are proud of their country. The only place it seems acceptable to fly it is parliament or the palaces or castles, that kind of thing. Otherwise, the ordinary householder who wants to fly the flag is usually seen as being affiliated to some kind of extreme group. Shame.

Sledz, give up on all the "Brits have bad teeth". Sensitive teeth aren't bad teeth, it's actually most likely to be caused by over brushing and rubbing away the tooth enamel. You don't have Sensodyne in the USA? Or Crest, Arm and Hammer and Rembrandt who all make toothpastes for sensitive teeth and sell, sell, sell in the USA.

People have teeth. How they look after them is entirely up to themselves. It's a media stereotype that Brits have bad teeth.

People can look after their own teeth without having to even go near a dentist six monthly, it's just about taking care of them. In the UK it can cost you a fortune for even a check-up, privately or through the NHS.

People who don't look after their teeth have bad teeth no matter where in the world they live.

That's something I find annoying too but it's not just a Polish trait. I see it here among non-Poles often, especially two women in my street who just talk at each other when they meet. They both talk at the same time.

As a child I was taught that it's rude to interrupt and rude to talk over someone else (especially an adult).

They probably have some witnesses and evidence but they'll want more and as much as they can possibly get. Better to have 10 witnesses saying one thing rather than just the first one they find. It all helps towards a conviction.

As for the ID - they'll know who she is for sure but it's required here to have a formal identification made by a NOK or similar.

In the case of Elzbieta Kinczyk, they wouldn't have arrested the guy having no evidence but they really don't publish what that evidence is in the press. A press release will likely just say someone has been arrested in the case of whatever the crime was and maybe when they'll first appear in court. The police here only release a bit of evidence info if it's going to help them by doing so. Otherwise they keep it close to their chests. Usually most things come out at the court case.

They've arrested and charged him and remanded him in custody until his court appearance which means they've enough evidence to go to court. So they must have had evidence enough to pick him up too.

That's the case.

The person in the dock is innocent until the prosecution provides sufficient evidence for the defendant to be found guilty. To find someone guilty the evidence must show that they are guilty beyond reasonable doubt, if there is not enough evidence to do that then the defendant should be found not guilty. Or I think in Scotland the case can be found 'not proven' as well.

I've never really heard of any problems concerning female health care in Britain and believe me I would if it happened often. I missed one smear appointment and they badgered me relentlessly until I made a new one, for example.

My sister had an abnormal result form a smear and she was dealt with very well, Amathyst has no complaints from her own scary ordeal. The system here is good, very, very good and we don't let people suffer.

What is the issue with midwifery? Midwifes here are specialised in their fields and often doctors take their advice as good and there are no issues. So is that problem that we say "this is your midwife" rather than "this is your doctor"?

Interestingly, although it must have happened, I have never personally dealt with one complaint against a midwife.

I'm not under any illusions about the feelings of people regarding immigration and I also agree that immigration needs to be more tightly controlled. Foreign criminals should not be getting into this country or any other. Limits should be placed on how many immigrants can enter. However, his declaration of 95% is not backed up with evidence and as we all know, these stats come from on the street polls of less than 1000 people usually.


The good thing about my social circles is that we tend to be able to talk about any subject, including immigration. I have Scottish friends who'll bring up the problems with immigration and Polish friends who will agree with them. We also manage to have these conversation without descending into argument.

Your article from the Times shows research by MORI where 975 were asked. While it shows the opinions of 975 people of voting age it doesn't show accurately the views of the nation. Without knowing more about the people asked you can't take polls seriously (not just these immigration ones - any kind) and they will be variable depending on where you ask them. Like if I stand on my front street and ask fifty passers-by if they like sunbeds I'll get a different result than if I were to stand outside a tanning salon and ask the same question. The only way to get a true account is to ask every single person in Britain aged 18 or over.

I'm not saying people in the UK don't want immigration controls to change, I'm just saying these polls can be manipulated. That's all.

At a guess I'd say that percentage comes from about 100 people asked in a predominately BNP area. You can come up with any statistic you like if you ask a certain number of people in a specific area. Like I could go to Spain and ask 100 people in certain areas if they would like the British ex-pats to return home. In one area a high percentage would say yes and in another area a high percentage would say no. Easily manipulated are these statistics.

Kojak333 if you're really that worried about it I'd suggest sending it to her place of employment if you're clear about her name, job title and department (especially if it's a big health care centre).

I imagine you'd be able to send it to her home without issue though.

Getting a friend involved might not be what your friend wants but if they're willing to help then that would be great but I wouldn't have them hand deliver it, that might be a bit much for your Mother. You'd also have to trust your friend to post it on once they received it.
