Travel / In Poland, Can I cash an American Check? [14]

Luckily we never seriously got into the primitive system of checks/checking accounts. Just wire your money to here. It will be quicker and costs (most likely) comparable.

Life / The most dissapointed with Poland are those who have Polish origins. [35]

I sense a bit of goodwill in this thread, here and there, after having read preceding posts .... That's good as we're approaching Xmas :-). Let it last beyond Christmas as well! And yes, I am a native polish guy and I do embrace all plastic, foreign, half-bred, quarter-bred and black Poles, even if they barely speak our vernacular.

Life / Polish-American Polka Music in Poland [60]

Yes, Lato z Radiem polka is well known. But otherwise this is hardly a mainstream music in Poland. Normally you do not hear it on the radio or TV unless you take effort and look for it. And moreover... nobody in PL knows american polka bands unless they have lived there and been exposed to the phenomenon.

Law / DELL shifting ops from Ire to PL [30]

We churn out over 1million car engines for Toyota and others per year so Dell will not be a big problem either :-)

Food / Krupnik as a Polish ethnic dish or drink? [13]

Krupnik is THE major soup in PL!!! .... but come to think of it: only my Mom knows how to cook it properly. :-)

As to the krupnik booze.... indispensable on a ski slope (in tiny bottles) :-)

Food / Krupnik as a Polish ethnic dish or drink? [13]

If you mean a vodka/honey based booze then all you need is a good liquor store. But if you mean krupnik THE soup, then indeed you need a stove - but it's a totally different story. Come to think of it..... I am hungry, where is krupnik when one needs it? :-)

Language / Pronunciation of vowels at the end of a word [28]

Teffle, in this case (w porządku) the letter "w" is always pronounced as "f" not as "v". Similarly in a word "paw" (peacock) the pronounciation is "paf" but of course when you decline the word it the "w" is once agin sounded e.g.: "z pawiem" (with a peacock)

Travel / Bars and clubs in Warsaw and best district to stay [18]

LOL, I thought I was one of the few in town who have ever visited Piotrus. This is THE dive :-). No Kieslowski movies being discussed, no Lupa fans either..... If you don't have 3 shots of wiśniówka (and presto!) you will not be able to stay there for more than 2 minutes :-)

Work / Average monthly salary in Poland is around 1000 PLN (few hundred bucks). [387]

For 1K no one would bother to move their ass from a couch if they had one :-). I used to employ university grads for 2,7K as a starting salary. And that was 3/4 years ago. They quickly progressed to 3,5K within a year or less. Well, but they were smart indeed.
