UK, Ireland / How to set up a charity in the UK? [20]

And I also wonder if charity can be a business as well, I mean something you can earn money for life?

You should think more in lines of a non-profit organization. I think it would be easier to be an employee and you still could do charitable work.

Life / How Safe Are the Polish Cities? [179]

Some people even say that they can leave their cars parked with keys in ignition. Is Poland really that Safe? Please discuss.

Those might be the people who drove really fast on the Autobahn and didn't notice they are already in Germany.

BTW, I've not seen a car parked with keys in ignition ever in my life.

Off-Topic / Is it good idea to start learning German? [20]

But I believe that Russians and Germans who ran business inetarnatioanally knows English very well. So why to learn German/Russian?

Because they speak English with horrible accents, especially Russians. If you learn their languages you can speak to them with your own horrible accent and you not get any of theirs. :)

UK, Ireland / Do Poles and EU Citizens exploit the British welfare state [129]

Were broke over here as well and have to stop giving out free handouts to Illegals, thats for certain!

It's illegal to work without permit and to hire illegals. Americans are criminals as well in the whole process. There is an easy way out of this: increase control, give extremely high fines to those who hire illegals and the problem will be solved faster.

Love / How to please Polish women? [216]

Be respectful to her parents,

Except for making fun of Polish pope, it pretty much describes every wife on this planet, IMHO

well hardly.....perhaps you mean .."vaguely similar"

Sarcasm.... that's what I was going for in my post.

And I would say, not similar at all. Polish aren't illegal in Britain, and Mexicans aren't in the US for the government benefits.

UK, Ireland / Do Poles and EU Citizens exploit the British welfare state [129]

Immigrants from eastern Europe who have worked in Britain for 12 months or more can claim the full range of UK state benefits, including child and housing benefit and jobseekers' allowance.

Its sounds exactly like our problem with the Illegal Mexicans

Exactly the same indeed. Think of all the benefits the Mexicans are getting in the USA. Not only housing and child benefits, but also ice cream money from the American government!

USA, Canada / Travelling to Poland from the U.S. on a expired Passport [43]

Much cheaper in Poland and less time consuming and less stressful

What you can do is to apply in a Polish consulate for a temporary passport. I've done it some 8 years ago. It doesn't take long (a week or so), it's not very expensive but it's only valid for about 3 months as far as I remember.

Genealogy / Polish person's average height? [210]

The taller the man the better :)
The shorter the woman the better :) ...

Statistically that would lead to "shortening" of the society. The kids from tall fathers and short mothers are usually somewhere between.

Travel / Pics of Warsaw by the Guardian's David Levene [107]

If you've never been inside a milk bar, the "service hatch" picture will not give you a clue. It mainly shows you a a very sceptical-looking lady.

But that's the way they are. I remember a following conversation in the milk bar. I was laughing so hard. It was like the essence of the milk bar.

An old gentlemen brings his soup bowl to the counter: "On the menu it says, 500g of soup, and there is maybe 450 in the bowl, no more!"

The milk bar lady takes the plate and puts it on the scale and yells "Look at the scale, exactly 500 g!" And she returns him the plate.

Always smiling eh :)

Doing my best :)

What I was trying to say, on most pictures there is a focal point in stronger color that tries to stand out, but it get's lost in too much grey. It's not strong enough. I like the the picture with the racoon. The colors look pretty.

As far as his subject matter, I like the pictures. They are not some washing powder advert type pictures that's for sure. But there is a quite beauty in each of them.

Why change something to make it look less drab if the actual scene is drab and dull in the first place.

Nah, world never looks this flat and drab to me.

First thing I would do is run the pictures through Photoshop and remove the gray midtones and add some highlight. They wouldn't look so drab.

News / MORE ANTI-POLISH SENTIMENT IN GERMANY [280]

With all due respect, what are you going to say next? If you just allow somebody to keep punching you in the face, its good..... because eventually he'll stop, because his knuckles will get tired??

All I have to say to you: sit on your tight ass and get angry.

News / MORE ANTI-POLISH SENTIMENT IN GERMANY [280]

Remember at school there were some fat kids who were called names and were miserable, and there were some fat kids who were cool? The difference was, that the cool fat kids had enough self distance to say " You call me fat? Whatever. I call myself fat too."

Same with Marek's sketches. He smears the Polish stereotypes into the German's faces. By being offended by this "ant-polish" jokes we show that they hit some soft spot. By ignoring them and laughing along we diminish the importance of those stereotypes.
