Nice to see one guy on here doesnt want to assassinate all American girls..Penn, you sure know how to step up to the mark! Full marks to you..You're a real man, unlike these idoits that have put down all American women most of whom have forgotten that their sisters and mothers are just that!

Tut Tut to the rest of you...I wasnt going to comment on this but I had to praise Penn...good lad as we say in Manchester!

UK, Ireland / The more subtle differences: Ireland/Britain v Poland [310]

Hmmm....My mistake :( Anyway, Im English...A Briton, not British (hate that term!)..I dont even mind the fact we were feck left right and centre by the Romans, Germans and French..oh and the Danes to a lesser extent (only in the North and East, this I know to be true because of archaeological digs - got a friend who was an archiologist :D )..Anyway...Regardless of the time we've had the name..Its the most known throughout the world!!!!

UK, Ireland / The more subtle differences: Ireland/Britain v Poland [310]

I mean all the stuff that went from the UK to America.

Its funny you say that, my friends grandmother is German and they were (still are!) extremely wealthy, when they came back their rather extensive property in the Black Forrest it had been stripped bare by the Yanks! Cheeky feckers were still living in too!

Yes

We covered her in School..I just googled her now to make sure I was right...So ahead of her time..And a woman too in them times..

Only mad men and Jonni don't :)

Add Shelley to that...Just think Sean, all those items that would have been lost and gone unadmired had it not been for us theiving scum...Tombs were robbed in Egypt by locals and items sold off or worse melted down..history was lost...As much as you hate it we have preseved it and brought the past to life...Plus given so much joy to others...You might want to think on...museums dont charge in the UK so its FREE for all to see, nobody is making a profit out it..British tax payers ensure that these items are cared for.

But there were people here before people started calling themselves 'Polish' as an identity for thousands of years. How is the U.K. older than that?

There have been tribes on my Island for over 500,000 years...Angles was the first term which was coined by the Romans...which was in about 55BC.

By the way how long have the Irish been known as "Irish" !!!!!!!!!!

The English are a self-made race... which relieves god of the respnosibility.

Aren't races? God has nothing to do with it.

Another subtle thing which might be worth noting is the lack of queueing for buses etc,

Fastly becoming a thing of the past, I got barged in front of by a couple of africans and an old chinese woman tonight as the bus pulled up (Id been waiting for 20 minutes and was there before all of them!)...Politeness doesnt pay any longer and for one who has always given up a seat, I wont be standing there with my slightly naive English polite ways..Im sick of it! Its the same in supermarkets in the city centre...

I'm not sure about the self-made part.
Would you consider stealing the wealth of half the globe during the British Empire times a sign that the British are a self-made race? Or a race of thieves?

I dont think he was talking about that...Also, we're not the only ones..what about the the Aztecs?

Lol, The British museums are absolutely fantastic because of it.
They robbed so many cultures, it's amazing.

And they have been treated with care and on show for the world.....But to be honest Id give it all back if we could have the Bayeux Tapestry back that was woven by English women! But I bet you didnt know that!

Sounds like most of the North of England :D

Indeed. People sometimes forget though, how much crossed the atlantic during the C20.

We have engineered the conditions to maintain these artifacts...otherwise they would have perished!

Barbara hepworth

Was she a sculper? Her names ring a bell..

I'm sitting in the UK now, in northern England, in an area with heavy industrial development, heavily bombed during WW2 and nothing particularly special. Yet within a quarter a mile there's a ruined medieval castle, a Saxon church and a handful of five hundred year-old houses

Though the UK has been a warring country with itself more often during history. Wales has more castles than any other country in the world.

UK is the British Isles..and Wales is part of that...He meant on the Island, not just England..

History / Polish martyrology during WW2 - today`s monuments [54]

such as in safe air in discotheque

You think these places are safe PMSL! Rather a child educate themselves and gain knowledge IMO, Its not about perpetuating hate, its about education...Dont get me wrong I know where you are coming from and Ive had "heated" debates with a friend of mine (who is Polish) about certain things related to WWII, but this thread wasn't about self pitty, it was about Polands history and events that shaped a nation - just appreciate it for what it is...Its a decent poster, adding something to the forum, which is a rare thing these days....

History / Polish martyrology during WW2 - today`s monuments [54]

Another "How we suffered" thread.

Sick of it. Time for some to grow some balls. And move on.

Do you think that when we have rememberence day in the UK or we have our silence on 11/11 at the 11th hour? Oh and if you think the people of Coventry have forgiven the Germans you can think again! So at least we have comments like this on this thread, which shows that Poles do in fact possess balls as well as a forgiving nature.

I understand that it is necessary to keep the memory of German bestiality to
remind Europe and the World that we have forgiven, but not forgotten.

Great thread Pawian, as usual the photos are excellent.

USA, Canada / Polish engagement party in the US - what should I buy as a gift? [5]

My guess would be smart casual for dress code - nice pair of jeans and a smart shirt

A small gift - a bottle of champagn is always nice (you cant go wrong with it either, who doesnt like champagn?), something they can use for celebrating later in the marriage - ornaments are no no, its personal taste and something for the home is always a difficult one, who wants 5 toasters? Oh another nice gift is champagn flutes to go with the champagn :)

Life / Poland's population predictions [59]

The figures on that chart are grossly under estimated, these are what Britian predicts:

Future population growth UK
MILLIONS, ONS PRINCIPAL PROJECTION 2008-based, published 21 October 2009

Mid-2005 Mid-2006 Mid-2010Mid-2020 Mid-2031 Mid-2041 Mid-2051
Mid-2061 60.587 62.222 66.522 70.933 74.165 77.073 79.697

Mid-2071 Mid-2076
82.341 85.141

The truth is that the figures will be much higher!

optimumpopulation.org/opt.more.ukpoptable.html

Compared to MedaWatch's link:

So I wouldnt say Polands population was as small as it seems - maybe Poles are not having as many babies, but there will be others making up for that :D

Polish girls are probably the biggest ****** on the face of the planet

If you dont mind, British girls have that title! :D Or did ;0)

I think you're being unfair, it'll be a minory rather than the majority.

employment of teachers due to the shrinking population.

They should think themselves lucky, England is expected to grow to twice its size in the not too distance future! The vast majority of babies born are unfortunately to none British (English, Irish, Scots & Welsh) mothers...Sad :(

News / Human Trafficking in and from Poland [80]

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) said the scam, which may have involved up to 130 workers, was one of Britain's largest human trafficking conspiracies.

Lukasz Adamowicz, 28, and Jerzy Bala, 40, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court.

The court, sitting on Friday, heard they were "middle managers" of an operation focussed on Sheffield.

It was told how the scam involved Polish men handing over hundreds of pounds before they were housed in "stinking and dingy" conditions in the derelict Halcar Tavern, in the Burngreave area of Sheffield.

What 'grime' is going to get attached to e.g. your knees or back? Your hands and face can be washed whenever.

I dont work down a pit, but I like to put my jim jams on when Im fresh.

Depends what way you look at it. For me, showering in the morning has the added benefit of helping you wake up. Also, morning showerers are basically cleaner than all the evening showerers they meet during the day and early evening ; )

I wash both in the evening and the morning..just takes less time in the morning, as you say, its to freshen up..

Also, it has to be said, assuming most people have sex at night a morning shower makes more sense in many ways.

Gross...I wouldnt want sex with someone with hygiene habbits like this! How often do you change your bedding?

Anyway, you really think it's not the norm to shower in the morning in the UK? Like I said, I lived there and every single person I encountered did this.

All my family are evening AND morning showerers...Friends of mine are in the main evening and morning showerers...There is no rule that states one must do one or the other...Long leisurly shower in the evening and then a quick one in the morning..

I just think it's a bit much

Its respecting peoples wishes.

Many people if they are not in formal visit they remove their shoes volontary as they thinks it's polite.

Which it is..Zet plenty practice this in the UK as children we came in the back door and left our shoes in the utility room and changed in to our slippers for around the house, honestly there is nothing unusual whatsoever in this practice.

Teffle what about two taps? Have you got used to use one?

One for hot one for cold - nothing strange about his - but mixer taps are becoming more commonplace..

no one has the completly truth about anything

Wrong, if you want truthful answers, you must be 100 truthful to friends..As brutal as it is.

to think that someone is wrong make you to be wrong

How do you work that out? Okay maybe not wrong, rather stupid instead.

Top and bottom of this is, you met a girl on line, chatted, she dropped you because she found someone in the real world...GET OVER IT!!

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

Czech beer is probably the best

On that we can agree.

I've got cancer caused by my smoking - please help me NHS - it's my right - because I paid a lot of money in".

Not only through NI payments but through inflated fag prices...where as the fat kvnts who have never worked (because they're fat) are starting to demand gastric bypass treatment...Most smokers who develop cancer dont last long enough to get their monies worth out the system... life expenctancy of lung cancer is about a year, fatties go on bleeding the system for decades!

The data, from the NHS information centre, showed there were 2,724 hospital admissions in 2007-08 for bariatric surgery, which includes stomach stapling and gastric bypasses.

Dr David Haslam, a GP in Hertfordshire and clinical director of the National Obesity Forum, said PCTs were turning down requests for surgery not because patients were failing to meet criteria laid down by the National Institute for health and Clinical Excellence (Nice), but to cut costs.

The NHS information centre data published in February also revealed that the number of drugs to treat obesity dispensed on the NHS increased to 1.23 million items in 2007 - a rise of 16% on 2006

Eighty per cent of people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are overweight or obese at the time of diagnosis

guardian.co.uk/society/2009/apr/09/obesity-surgery-nhs-rise-spending

Did you know that smokers had to pay for patches and gum to give up? No free treatment...Fatties get it all...Smoking is an addiction, most people over eat and become fat because they are greedy and lazy!

"We are spending £372m to implement the Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives strategy and as part of this we are investing £75m over the next three years in Change4Life that aims to encourage people to be more active and eat better."

My brother heads up a team for the above government initiative and he was happier when working in mental health, he said the people he worked with previously responded better! Doesnt that tell you something?

Cant stop drinking Czech beer this school year. Up 3 to 85 kilos :(((

You live in Poland and drink Czech beer? How odd..

I need NHS help!

So did you read Harrys response then? You got the figures, where are your stats?

Make the fat cunnts stand outside in minus 20: the shivering will most likely be the only excise they get all year.

I think you meant sit on their mobility scooters..

So now people dying earlier is a good thing?

From a financial point of view, the government are rubbing their grubby little paws together, pay all that tax and then joss it before getting your pension? win win win for them!

people smoking themsleves and others into an early grave. :(

Its a personal choice...One which smokers pay over the odds for.

Telling a friend about real problems can be risky.

How so? They are the closest to you (apart from family) who will give your sound advise based on their knowledge of you personally.

A small talk between you and the friend:

Strangely enough we have a friend with cancer and we all went out for her birthday at weekend and we were all very open about the situation..nothing small about those chats...

I wouldnt dream of going on a forum asking for advice, it would be like ordering underwear on line...Just wrong!

Something to look forward to when it's minus 20 out.

You reckon it will make a big difference? Im just back from the Czech Rep and they had tiny areas for non smokers...no real difference IMO. Only a total ban will have an impact.

I don't agree.

Then you should go to any A&E across the UK on a Saturday night, you might change your rather small mind.

smokers who contract cancers are bleeding the NHS dry"

They're not its the fat kvnts with health problems that are...We should tax fatty foods the same as fags...

Love / Polish girls fall for Indian guys ? [217]

that Indians try to "leave using whatever loopholes or schemes [they] can"?

They study in the UK for 10 years, there's a loophole to stay in the UK.

As soon as one get ILR they apply for another family member to come over (there's another one)

They marry (look at the amount of sham marriages and look at the names of those being charged (there's another one)

They fake qualifications and bank accounts to make themselves look good to get visas (there's another one)

They have the most immigration facilities in the UK (bogus at the least - there's another one)

Would you like me to continue?

Oh and look the the noise they made about the immigration cap in the UK - look at the noise they made about the rules made for Indian doctors who came to study here...Fact, most Indians dream of being somewhere other than India!

The 8 men, 5 Indians, a Sri Lankan, a Brazilian and a Palestinian, were arrested for a variety of immigration offences. The majority are suspected of supplying forged or counterfeit identity documents to gain employment.

ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/newsarticles/2010/oct/24-8-arrests-acton-factory

The above is off the ukba home office site..This was 4 days ago, they catch them probably every day but most dont make it to the news! Numbers speak volums 5 out of 8 were Indians...

He said army. I assume you know how to read.

Maybe you didnt understand that the idiot said India had a larger army than the UK, which would make sense when your population is 17 times bigger (and some!)..so for him to say 10 times larger..kind doesnt make them that big in relative terms! Besides, bigger isnt better..rather quality than quanity...but some countries dont quite understand this concept hence the reason they fail miserably :(

History / Felix Topolski - what a wonderful discovery (for me) [15]

I was watching a programme the other day and they showed some of his work, what an interesting chap, great artist and illustrator.

What other hidden gems does Poland have?

Felix Topolski was born on 14 August 1907. He studied in the Warsaw Academy of Art and trained as an artillery officer. Later he moved to work in Italy and France and eventually moved to the United Kingdom in 1935 and founded a studio near Waterloo where there is still a free permanent exhibition which chronicles the 20th century. He married twice, first to Marian Everall and then Caryl J. Stanley. The George Bernard Shaw play In Good King Charles's Golden Days was published in 1939 with illustrations by Topolski, bringing his work to a wide audience in the UK.

UK, Ireland / The more subtle differences: Ireland/Britain v Poland [310]

Showering in the evening

Wash the grime of the day off..rather than sleep in..Always been an evening and morning showerer...But I will concede an old house mate of mine used to the morning thing until I called her a skank for doing so..

Removing shoes when entering houses. This was odd for me.

There are plenty in the UK that practice this - what's odd about not walking muck into someones home?

gherkins,

Got the mini ones in the fridge, but I would consider eating them for breakfast (yuk!)

British abominations like fried tomatoes and beans

Yummy (grilled tomatoes are better though)

yeap and hows with that in Ireland/Britain?

Its not the norm..its all about preference..As kids its routine with the whole bath and bed thing..some of us continue with it..(a lot do actually)

They had a habit of sleeping naked with their bedroom door open

Exhibitionist?

Why do people keep staring?

I cant say I noticed this on any of my visits..but then again you must be stairing at them in return?

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

When he publicly says "Yes, dear" to me,

It means, Im not really listening and I dont intend to do what you've asked, Im just making the right noise in the hope you will shut up..

Or

He's given up and is totally hen pecked!

Often times I have to hold on to the (P)pole, especially when the tram takes turns. I think that within the short period of time I will develop more upper body strenght, so I will be able to secure the ride with one arm, like a good monkey would. So far my whole body often gets yanked while riding, but this is something I could work on;), but after all I can bump into somebody interesting and things can develop;), he, he.......

In time you will be able to anticipate the drivers moves and go "no handed" :D

Language / How similar is the Italian accent to the Polish accent (when speaking English)? [34]

My friend (who's been to both Poland and Italy) says that Italian people speaking English and Polish people speaking English sound quite similar. Is this true?

Your friend must be tone deaf because they sound nothing alike.

To me, they don't sound at all similar.

I cant see how they'd sound similar to anyone :D

She also said that when Italian people and Polish people sang English songs they sounded basically identical...

Are you saying Pavarotti sounded Polish?

As in: My frienda here, he's a gooda man.

Very bad stereotype...

To be honest, would you guys complain if you wouldn't be on that schedule? lol
