Empire State Building disses another group after rejecting Poles' request to honor hero Gen. Pulaski.
Furious Polish-Americans say the Empire State Building is giving one of their Revolutionary War heroes the Mother Teresa treatment.

They claim their request to honor Gen. Casimir Pulaski tonight by lighting the tower in the Polish colors of white and red was shot down without explanation.

nydailynews.com/ny_local/2010/10/02/2010-10-02_a_pole_lot_of_anger_at_empire_light_snub.html

Is this true discrimination? I think it is. It should be noted that the owner of the Empire State Building is a Jew.
Discuss.

The real kicker is that despite the worthy peeps they refuse to honor, they somehow felt the need to celebrate killer Commie Chairman Mao...

It's a shame the 9/11 terrorists didn't instead take out the ESB.

Poland got an entire bridge named after Pulaski, The Pulaski Skyway in Jersey City, minutes from New York City.

that sounds better than some beaming lights from a building for a few hours.

The 9/11 neocon terrorists would have been risking too much beyond detonating buildings, tz. Their Reichstag-style stunt was daring enough.

I agree with FUZZY, a permanent memorial is better than a temporary one.

It shouldn't be noted that he is a Jew at all. It's normal there.

I wonder what would happen if they didn't turn on the colors for the Italians on Columbus Day? I guess the Polish community is not so important in New York. I still think this is somewhat political. A huge snub to the old Polish community that help build America.

The Chinese tell us to turn on the lights, we turn them on. When you're a trillion in the hole to somebody...

i think you're pushing it a bit there, man. for one, there are 3.37 MILLION italians living in NYC....a weeee bit bigger than the Polish community.

the Chinese community is no exception....

"The New York metropolitan area contains the largest ethnic Chinese population outside of Asia, enumerating 659,596 individuals as of the 2008 American Community Survey Census statistical data,[52] including at least 6 Chinatowns, comprising the original Manhattan Chinatown, two in Queens (the Flushing Chinatown and the Elmhurst Chinatown), two in Brooklyn (the Sunset Park Chinatown and the Avenue U Chinatown), and one in Edison, New Jersey, not to mention fledgling ethnic Chinese enclaves emerging throughout the New York metropolitan area."

just sayin'.

Well, every other community did too.

Absolutely right.

Besides, it looks like you guys are desperately looking for some news just to be able to complain about us. Instead, use your energy for something positive for a change.

Well...I for one are not complaining! :)

Just last week, the iconic building was illuminated in the German colors yellow, red and black to honor Gen. Frederick Von Steuben, who like Pulaski, fought alongside George Washington.

NY honors Prussia

So just because there are a lot of Chinese in NYC we should celebrate murderous Communist leadership?
With that thinking, I guess on German Day they should light it up in the colors of Hitler's SS...

would you guys complain if you wouldn't be on that schedule? lol

It is the apparent selective bias in what they accept to honor and what they refuse to that is the problem and has so many peeps pissed.

I didn't know of that ritual actually before reading about it here on PF...so in Germany nobody cares at all!

With that thinking, I guess on German Day they should light it up in the colors of Hitler's SS...

Well...why should they use Hitler for german history? There are 2000 years of us compared to a mere 12.

Should they use commie polish colors for Poland??? That was far longer than Nazi Germany...

So just because there are a lot of Chinese in NYC we should celebrate murderous Communist leadership?

Also the chinese civilization is one of the oldest...why only the most recent commie times?

You seem the one who is highly selective here! :(

Well, I tell you how I feel about it. We are all Americans here, no matter where your ancestors came from and if any colors should be shown on empire state building, it should be ours. People made their choices when they arrived here to live here as Americans.

If someone feels more, Irish, German, Polish, Russian etc. than American, no one is holding him back.

I'm just saying, the number of Chinese in NYC doesn't justify celebrating a murderous Commie China leader anymore than the number of Germans there justifies celebrating a murderous Nazi German leader.

I'm with you there. And ending all this multiculturalism BS would put an end to the selective bias at play as well.

The 9/11 neocon terrorists

Oh brother. Still clinging to that silliness, are you? :s

Especially as most immigrants came to America to flee their murderous regimes...I doubt they would like see the colors of Mao or Hitler (or Stalin) on the Building!

The empire state building have been lighting up for the Pulaski Day every single year besides this year.

Could be that the new owner is an Anti-Catholic twat.

Well atleast Michael Bloomberg the Mayor of New York supports the Pulaski Day, His Parents were Polish jews ;)

That's a good point too. I seem to recall some minor outcry from the US China population denouncing the decision to honor Mao.

What's next, lighting up the building in colors of Cuba to celebrate Castro? Cuban refugees wouldn't like that.

See what happens when our Libs have control over stuff here... Everything they do is just misguided, backwards, wrongheaded... anti-American...
But what else can we expect with our Leftist leader who permitted a Mao ornament to hang on the White House Christmas tree last year?!... True story.

And....they didn't even use the old prussian colors but the new german colors to honor the prussian Von Steuben...those bastards!!!! *shakes fist at general direction of New York*

Kongo colors on empire state building and Kongo national anthem instead to ours, what else? LOLOLOL

PS.: Obviously Islam as our national religion too.

And ending all this multiculturalism BS would put an end to the selective bias at play as well.

It would definitely help. You know, I don't really mind if they have their little community meetings with their food, dance etc. as long as they don't forget who they are now.

The New York metropolitan area contains the largest ethnic Chinese population outside of Asia

The 3.37 million WOP community is spread out over the NYC metro area which has around 19 million people! It's also called the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut). The top 5 European communities in NYC are:

Italian: 8.2%
Irish: 5.2%
German: 3.4%
Russian: 3.0%
Polish: 2.7%

In New York City- Italian (692,739), German (255,536), Irish (420,810), Polish (213,447). So the Polish community is not really all that smaller then the German community. Germans had their colors lit up in late September. The Jewish community in metro NYC is 1.97 million. The borough of Brooklyn has 456,000 Jews and Manhattan 243,000 Jews, confirming the fact that Jews rule NYC. Indeed Jews and Irish seem to do well in politics.

The bottom line is NYC metro area has the second largest Polish community in America.

New York is home to a number of Polish and Polish-American cultural, community, and scientific institutions, including the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America (PIASA) and the Polish Cultural Institute. Polish-language publications with circulation reaching outside the city include The Polish Review, an English-language scholarly journal published since 1956 by PIASA; Nowy Dziennik [1], founded in 1971, considered the leading Polish-language daily newspaper in the U.S.; and Polska Gazeta [2], a Polish-language daily newspaper with headquarters in Brooklyn. The Polish Newspaper SuperExpress [3], covering New York, New Jersey & Connecticut started publication in 1996.

right.

not to mention the parade the poles get every year in NYC. did I forget to mention the Katyn memorial, right on the water front, in Jersey City as well, facing downtown manhattan? That's right, they got an entire bridge and a memorial in Jersey City.

so typical. poles complaining every chance they get, especially when it has anything to do with the USA....home to over 9 million poles.

in America.

This is the thing rychlik, "in America". If any colors, it should be American, that's it.
You're right about one thing, once they already light up those lights for anyone, they shouldn't forget yours either but then again, to hell with all these lights, peace for everyone and start finally solving really serious problems.

Stupid lights shouldn't be any issue here.

It's clearly anti polish sentiment but it's understandable if the owner is a Jew (whose parents probably migrated from Poland)

Pol Ams should make more fuss about it

btw. Someone should add it to the wikipedia article "anti-polish sentiment"
