News / Why has the US dollar reached almost 3.99 zł in Poland? [56]

Would that be PO that abandoned the independent civil service law and proceeded to appoint endless cronies to top positions?

What was that the other day from PiS? Ah yes, the manager of a football stadium is now in charge of one of Poland's biggest companies. You couldn't make it up :D

Great investment. Everyone agrees with that, except a tiny crowd of nasty propagandists.

Funny how you were full of "MAKE FOREIGN COMPANIES PAY TAXES" and now suddenly you're claiming that it's a great investment despite the fact that everyone knows that Daimler are only there because of a massive subsidy.

it's the complete ineptitude of PiS that has sent the Polish economy into freefall as we can now see.

Indeed, the examples with land, forests and windmills shows that PiS are effectively not to be trusted when it comes to foreign investments.

News / Russia says: WE'LL NUKE POLAND [150]

Poland is slowly getting dragged into the middle of it.

Poland always was in the middle of it. It's pretty obvious that any NATO-Russia war will result in Poland being flattened.

USA, Canada / Moving to Poland to immerse my kids in Polish language and culture. What are the experiences of other parents? [10]

I found a few "non-public" schools that are small and seem to have the right attitude towards immigrant kids, though there is not much proof of that other than the information on their websites.

Take it from someone with a significant amount of experience in such a school - they will pretend to care, but in reality, it will be a different story. I've seen how it works in reality - the kids struggling with Polish are often simply left to fend for themselves, perhaps with a token effort from a teacher to help them in Polish. How old are your kids?

I'm not sold on the private schools such as American or British, because from what I've seen on their websites, many of their teachers are not qualified teachers.

Couldn't agree more. I can tell you that a lot of them have teachers with thick English accents, the type that you absolutely wouldn't want your kids to pick up in any way. The very very best schools are comparable to a good public school in the Anglosphere, but that's about it. The stories I could tell about some of the more expensive ones...

My kids are in school all day (9:00 - 3:30) so having aupair does not make much sense financially at this point.

Could you perhaps take them out of school for a year while at home?

But - is there no Saturday Polish school where you are? They're all over Europe, but I have no idea if it's the same there. If not, maybe you could take a year out of work to establish such a school?

USA, Canada / Moving to Poland to immerse my kids in Polish language and culture. What are the experiences of other parents? [10]

as Poland still exemplifies good parenting and child rearing practices

Not really. Poland teaches kids to cheat in schools, teaches them nothing about life and most of all, shows them that their opinion is worthless.

Now we are considering moving to Poland for a year to immerse our kids in Polish culture and language.

Don't do it. Schools will not help you, even private ones - the kids will struggle, especially as Polish kids are expected to do a lot at home to make up for the relative lack of hours in school.

The best bet would be to get a Polish aupair who preferably doesn't speak English and get her to spend a year with you. The kids will pick up very fast, especially if you ask her specifically to introduce Polish traditions.

Feedback / The Cognitive Dissonance and Campaign of Hate by Polonophobes and Other Peddlers of Anti-Polish Propaganda [60]

How does one masquerade as Polonia.

Easily : they claim to be Polonia, but present next to no real information except what one can easily find online.

I'm always reminded of a comment you made years ago about working class Polonia food - I don't remember what it was, but it's the kind of insight that our trolls on here don't have, which rather proves that they actually aren't Polonia at all.

Nothing against our genuine Polonia members, but I cannot abide the posters on here that claim some fictitious link to Poland in order to justify what they post.

That's the difference...

Indeed. It's a huge world away from the life of the average person that sees "Polonophobia" everywhere, as they rarely see out from under the stairs.

From what I gather, those pushing the "Polonophobia" line hardest are the ones that have miserably failed in life. They're blaming some imaginary "Polonophobia" to justify their own failures.

I have ben to Jamaica well over fifty times, have lived there for long stays, have even built a house there and then demand that I have a "strong link" to Jamaica. lol

The difference is that we actually live and work in Poland, unlike your fantasy stories.

Americans, Canadians or whatever, maladjusted in their own country, fixating on somewhere that some of their forebears left and bitter, oh so bitter

Indeed. It's obvious jealousy, nothing more. I notice that the less of a real world connection these posters have, the more they talk about "Polonophobia".

Really? What is that? A figment of my imagination?

Absolutely. It's a cover story used by racists, nothing more.

Yet you could name a one occasion and a lame one at that.

Lame to invade a country in collaboration with the Nazis? Yes, very much lame. Probably one of the lamest incidents in Polish history.

Today, anti-Polish sentiment more often entails derogatory stereotyping and defamation, rather than open discrimination

What's new? You can read derogatory stereotyping and defamation about Muslims on here daily.

Are you a woman Delphi? That is a news to me.

He doesn't really abuse me, and when he does, it's nothing in comparison to the hatred handed out to female posters here.

I just posted last week that NEVER have I heard a Polish poster talk smack about Poland's new government for an example.

Lying again, Johnny.

List goes on, just like your lies.

With that said, thank you so much for starting this thread.

Another one to PM, eh?

Touch a raw nerve did I? A topic too close to home?

What topic? It's obvious that anyone pushing the tired old "Polonophobia" line is actually using it as a cover for vile racist abuse towards others.

Given that Poland was a victim of many wars of aggression, particularly during WWII, why do you then believe terms like "Nazi" or "brownshirt" should be applied to any Poles or Polonia?

Poland was also the aggressor on many occasions, as is well documented. The aggression towards Czechoslovakia in 1938 should quite rightfully be called Nazi collusion, because that's what it was.

Why do anti-Polish bigots try to delegitimize the term Polonophobia even when the term has been written about by academia?

The term has been written about in terms of how it's used by racists to justify their attitude towards others, yes.

With that background I fail to see how either one of you can call this very serious and legitimate topic as trolling.

It's not a serious and legitimate topic at all. It's a laughable topic, discussed by people that meet under stairs with tin foil hats on their heads.

News / Tesco out of Poland? Żabka and Biedronka opportunity. [73]

A franchisee is basically a high priced manager who works hard thinking he is the store owner.

Doesn't matter what he 'basically' is, the point remains that the owners of the individual franchises tend to be crooks. Żabka certainly doesn't tell franchisees which contracts to use with employees.

The thing that makes me laugh is that the working conditions in supermarkets are considerably better than in the local Żabka, yet one is owned by foreigners and one is owned by locals. Hmm.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

Yes, but you can opt out and pay a fine of 2500 to 10000 Zloty. Also, an estimated 12,000 children in 2014 weren't vaxxed in Poland.

You can opt out, but you can expect considerable pressure in society against you as well. Many doctors will simply refuse to register an unvaccinated child, for instance. It's also regarded by most people (regardless of social status) as being the kind of thing done by morons.

@Delph: come on! Just realize what has just happened in London! A huge slap in the faces of fascists and what a delight! ;)

... Can I admit that I haven't been paying attention? I was too busy following the Scottish election, where my party will form the government for a 3rd term :D

And yes, what a beautiful slap!

Isn't that the guy who's more concerned with what every PiS politician is doing than paying required monthly child support payments for his own kids?

Nope, it's the guy who leads a very large opposition movement. Tomorrow is going to see a huge demonstration in Warsaw.

Pathetic... I recall that he was arguing for mandatory vaccination of all newborns or something along those lines (regardless of parent's wishes or religious/philosophical preferences)

Don't worry Adrian, we already have compulsory vaccinations in Poland and the government is showing no interest whatsoever in changing the situation.

News / Tesco out of Poland? Żabka and Biedronka opportunity. [73]

I don't know what Portuguese chain "Żabka"

It's not a Portuguese chain. Are you so long out of Poland that you've lost all concept of how it works? The name and underlying logistics is owned by a British company, however. It's a franchise network. The majority of them are owned and run by Poles, which explains why they're known for using dodgy contracts.

But as I said you have little knowledge about financial world plus you are liberal which means you are close-minded so you won't learn anything new that wouldn't suit you biased opinion.

Okay, so let's use some common sense, shall we? Tesco has a huge distribution network, and they buy in huge numbers. They're able to negotiate with suppliers to push prices down as much as possible, which translates into cheaper products on the shelves. Pawel's Sklep on the other hand has no bargaining power, so his prices are higher than in Tesco. But as Pawel's business is small, he can't afford to take the risk of employing people on umowa o pracę because of how much trouble they can cause him. He doesn't have deep pockets like Tesco to fight legal battles - so he uses umowa zlecenie.

Why do you want people to pay higher prices?

It's quite astonishing just how anti-free market all you PiS lovers are.
